But I am replacing One jebao to make my self happy. old one will go into the back up box. the wave pumps I have PP -15 sow-10 and a SCP -90m. PP went in 3 years ago when I set up the tank.

@@MASSAquariums Sorry Mass. That might have come off as rude. I fully agree with ymmv, was expecting them to fail after a year. 👍Pleasantly surprised that they are still working.
My friend has small reef aquariums service company in my country and sold hundreds of Jebao pumps. Circulating pumps are incredible durable, in five years he installed over 100 and no single pump was returned for warranty replacement! RW pumps is another story - each second he sold was returned and soon he stoped selling these. SW series is different thing, they are much, much better.
The last jaebo I bought lasted a week! LOL I have never gotten more then 3 months out of one! . I literally have a graveyard full of broken jaebos in my closets. Funny thing Is I tried some of the ones I thought were broke and by banging the wavemaker I got it up and working again! Glad I dint throw many away. What happens is it cuts off and controller starts flashing! I bought One of the hyggers this timme since It wasnt much more but trying to figure out how to use it is ridiculous! I was hoping you would tell me in this video because I am lost! I just wish the jaebos lasted longer but now i have found if they you just bang them a few times and it will get going again! There so easy to use!
Old video. But if you or anyone can suggest what models to use in a 450 litre (119 US Gallons), 5 feet long (Juwel Rio 450) tank. I was going to use two. It's a freshwater African cichlid tank. I just want to create a circular motion to move detritus off the substrate and into the filter. Or any other brand sub £100 each.
I bought an mp40 that was loud as hell and expensive as hell and it failed after 6 months.... Now I'm running jebao Gyres and have been for almost 2 years with zero issues....will never buy expensive crap again. Will be less upset if my cheap pump fails.
if your mp40 was loud it's because you didn't adjust the wet side. they are supposed to be whisper quiet at 100%. you need to install it and then slowly turn the wet side while it's running in order to adjust it. if you leave it running without adjusting the wet side first it'll wear out the pump because the motor is off balance.
Sometimes i find the more you clean something the more its likely to break. Years ago i ran 2 of these pumps. 1 i would clean every month the other rarely only cause it was hard to get to. The pump that i cleaned often had to be replaced twice while the one i rarely cleaned never had to be replaced. Go figure.....
interesting. I have had the same jabao for more than 3 years. It has even gotten to the point of neglection where it stopped running due to how clogged it was with GHA GROWING on it and has come back the same. I don't have mine running at 100%, I wonder how much of a factor that was for you. Either way, sorry to hear about your troubles.
I only had 1 older model Jebao pump fail on me. I run almost only jebaos. I never clean my pumps. Even the return pump on my 200 gallon for 3 years now is a jebao. Guess I’m lucky as my fish guy said he issues with them as well.
what are you using to clean them? if you're using vinegar that might be the issue. the cheap magnets in them can swell in vinegar and seize up the impeller. you should clean everything in a mild citric acid solution. not only is it better for the equipment but it's safer for the tank and it's just as cheap as vinegar is.
You answered this question 3 different ways so far. 1st you said, water only. 2nd you said, vinegar and hot water. Now you say, water and hydrogen peroxide. I have a feeling you have been using vinegar. Which is the kiss of death for most plastic on pumps.
My jebao rw8 ordered in August 2016, is almost 5 years in Malawi tank. From couples month's the speed going down, now only first speed working, before was 4. Now I'm looking new model sow-16m WiFi this is different design, re model had some electronic in the motor, new has everything in controller. So 40£ for 5 years is ok. Now for new model is around 105€. In Europe is 2 years guarantee, so no panic. Thanks anyway for share your experience
Interesting. I purchase 2 Hydor Koralia pumps (1500gph) in 2015 and all I do to them is let them run all day every day.and they are still going (7 years). One pump frame cracked but the pump still works. In other words, I don't do anything to them but let them run and do their job. I just bought 2 uniclife pumps (in new equipment testing mode) to see how they work because I want to try a pump with a controller. Time will tell if these work out. But, I will still have the Hydor pumps to fall back on.
You are soooo right ! I love the volume of movement and silence of the Jebao PP 20s, however they both crapped out in about 1 year. The magnets did hold strong through 1inch plywood in my diy plywood aquarium, but they weren't cheap. I plumbed a magdrive 1800 in rear of tank. Its on rock in back corner of tank, with black piping, up and across back.. I have locline with a 3inch blade outlet that gives great surface agitation. The magdrive may use a bit more electric, however they are bulletproof, and always give me many years of service. And it was $50 bucks cheaper, than 2 PP 20s.
I have Jabao pumps also and I guess ill see how long they last. (SLW-30) I also had the current USA wavemakers and they only lasted 1.5 years. I can say that in 11 tears I never had a Hydor Koralia pump break. They are big and don't make them with high flow rates though.
The main issue for this brand is inconsistency for quality. I used 5 of them. 3 at the same time. 2 for replacements. 1 of 3 never broken in 2 years 1 of 3 stopped after 3 months 1 of 3 stopped after 1 years 1 of 2 bought for replacement 1 is already dead after a month another still going well.
I think the trick with the jebaos is to not use bleach or vinegar to clean them. I highly recommend the jebao slw-20 👍👍 or even the slw10. The slw-20 is the Nero 5 knockoff
Any recent reviews on this little Hygger? Just purchased a water box. It's a 20 gallon so I don't need anything that's going to be blasting up all my sand.
Its funny i am using a jebao and has been running for more than 6 years. Till date I have not even clean a single time. Now has so many weird things growing around the wavemaker. I am too lazy to clean it. Also waiting for it to spoil to change to a new model
Use the sine wave pumps. They started with the OW series and all other models since are sine wave. I've got the ow pumps since they came out. I clean once every 6 months or so. Sine wave has vastly changed longevity of the jebao.
That is the only thing I hated about that wave maker. Setting up the control SUCKS ASS!!!!! I recently just returned it and picked up the Jebao SOW9. I'm liking this one better. The controls are a while lot easier that's forsure.
I have the same issue with Current USA wave makers. I've gotta say they've been great and have replaced every one that has failed. But I just had another one die and it's starting to get a little frustrating.
hi, check the 3 pin plug, jerk it around while plugged in, usually they are the culprit, if pump tries to run while you play with that plug get it bypassed this happened to 2 out of 3 of my pumpheads. hope it helps and you now have bunch of spare wavemakers :D
My first jebao lasted for about a year and a half and quit. I got another one and that one quit almost a year to the day. I hear ya man they are cheap and quiet but the longevity just isn't there.
How has the Hygger been treating you? I am looking to replace my Current eFlux in my 40 gallon breeder and move the eFlux to my EVO 13.5. Thanks for the video. I was thinking about purchasing a pair of Jebao SLW-20s. I guess I need to rethink that plan.
I'm not saying anything about the jeboe pumps I have , but what I will say is I've never taken them apart to clean them in the two years I've had them🤔 just a tooth brushing but am always looking at new pumps look forward to the update , tanks looking good as always, !!!!! Happy Quarantining
Switch to new jebao wavemakers. RW and WP series are the first two generation of Jebao and both don't last long. The OW series and SLW series are quite ok for the price. The one you purchase is also a chinese pump made by zksj. It is also quite good.
@@MASSAquariums I was the same way years ago but now I'm a little older it seems like buying the bigger ticket things aren't so bad. Just think 25 years ago the best thing was an under gravel filter and the old maxi jets
Hi, my hygger controller shows error 7 and stop working. I unplug and reset the controller, it only worked for couple seconds and shows error again. Have you encounter it yet? If you do, can you show me how to fix it? Thanks a lot
Yes I had that error and it actually is perfect because my pump was jammed up with star fish so it shuts itself off to avoid burn out. I cleaned them out, plugged it back in and it fired right up
Jebao motor windings suck. They will short out no matter how often you clean it. Worse, you can't buy the powerhead only. You can only buy it with a controller. That's why I ended uphere. Looking at trying hygger for a change. A bit more pricey, but it seems to be made much better than Jebao?
I've had a rw jebao wavemaker for 5 years, never cleaned it and it's covered in coralline algae and it's still going strong. Yet I've been through 2 triple the cost aqua medic wavemakers in the same time. It's luck of the draw sometimes I think. And my aqua medic dc runner pump stopped after 2 years. I won't touch aqua medic again, but I'm all for jebao!
I've had the same jebao wavemakers on my tank for over 5 years. Never replaced a single one. If you keep them clean they last forever. If you're lazy and don't clean them then expect them to fail on you. You can buy $300 mp10s and experience the same thing if you dont keep them clean.
You’re the one guy in 100 that has that experience. You get what you pay for most of the time, especially anything that goes in saltwater. 2 mp10’s (3+yrs) and 1 AQAMAI kps (2+yrs) cleaned every 3 months until spotless, never had to replace anything, and would’ve spent the same dollars for jebaos for the same time of use. My pumps show no sign of slowing down in a 50 gallon breeder mixed reef and I expect to keep running them since I take care of them like Mike.
@@MW-ut3dk I'm nowhere near the only person who has the same experience. I know dozens of people who have the same experience. I've actually had mp10s fail before Jebaos before. So, I don't necessarily go by "you get what you pay for".
Daniel Hanson Again you may be an outlier among all those people who have bought jebao products-most customers have had shorter pump lives with these products. BRS, Fish of Hex, Marine Depot, etc. have all shown that the get what you pay for rule generally applies to most people most of the time. Sometimes you get lucky with jebao, most of the time you don’t. Just saying that even if you maintain these pumps like Mike has they are prone to failure at an earlier time. I would not assume that Mike hasn’t maintained his jebaos like you have-Mike’s a straight shooter so I would take him at his word and not accuse him of not cleaning his pumps.
@@MW-ut3dk All pumps are prone to fail no matter what their price point is. Also I wasn't insinuating that he was lazy. I was speaking in general because a lot of people don't clean their pumps but to be fair he complained about how reviews say to clean your pumps often.
If that one dies in another year like the jebao maybe try the coral box wave pumps. They're almost the same as the jebao, the controller is virtually identical and they're usually within a few bucks of each other, give or take, but they're engineered in Germany. I have one in my saltwater tank, and it's been going almost two years strong and I almost never clean it. Good luck with the self-isolation and I hope you and your family stay safe and healthy. Much thanks to your wife and your family for the work she is doing. 🙏
I just went to Coral box web site the only pumps they sell are Jebao! Engineered in Germany but made in China! This one was on there site also made in same factory im sure!
I have had 2 in 10 years so can't understand how your going through so many I love them but sometimes is the driver I have spare drivers sw my last driver failed used old one boom sorted
Very rare a magnet motor dies so I’m thinking the same it’s his driver power going to it. Or the impellers break where they spin making it look like it’s not working.
@MASSAquariums Im having a real difficult time finding a hygger pump that will be suitable for my 75 gallon I hear that the ( model HG042 ) 3400 GPH is to powerful ... Any thought on which wave maker by Hygger ?
@@MASSAquariums I was reading about it and it says 1600gph, that can't be accurate, is it? I mean 1600gph is a decent amount of flow. 1600gph in a 10-20 gallon tank would be splashing water out of the tank, no? Do you feel like the high flow is really 1600gph?
Lol, the word “Jebao” always creates debate! I still run an original WP10 that I’ve had for more than 5 years. FoH’s theory is that the manufacturing quality has declined in the past few years and I’m thinking he’s right. I own 6 nano-sized Jebaos of various series (can never keep them straight) that I rotate through the two spots in my tank where I use them. I run them on whatever setting that keeps the impeller in motion - never on stop/start pulsing. I’ve only had one die and that was because the basket was broken and I didn’t realize I could replace it, so I tossed the pump and kept the controller for running them in a weak solution of citric acid and water for cleaning. I clean them when they’re so clogged I can see the individual impeller blades as it’s running. But I will say, this being able to see the propeller blades is a new thing - it’s like the power just can’t move the impeller at a certain point. But I consider them great value for money. And - a magnet is a magnet is a magnet - as long as you have the correct polarity, you could maybe use the stronger Jebao magnet with the Hygger pump if you think the included magnet is undersized. 🤷♀️ And btw, many thanks for the superchat last week! I was subbed to you but didn’t have notifications turned on, so I’ve fixed that. And thank you for reading my novel-length comment. 🙄
Haha. Well said. Yes I’ve had plenty of success and plenty of failure with this pump but Dee also told me that running them on pulse is no good which in my mind defeats the purpose of “a wave maker”. But 🤷🏻♂️ they are cheap enough. I refuse to spend a ton of money on equipment as fish keeping is only one of my many hobbies I enjoy. If I had to pick one that I tend to over spend it’s probably actual fishing. Love a good rod and reel. Have a great weekend
@@MASSAquariums they look decent from reviews I have seen. Haven't tried one yet. Just waiting for me jebao to break. Will prob order some spares soon.
U spend the same amount either way lol either all up front for a good one or split up into multiple crappy pumps whatever way makes u happy I guess, myself I prefer to buy a pump once and not worry about it for years to come that said all pumps have there bad eggs so no guarantees on the good ones either but a much better chance and usually nicer features and support

I'm not saying anything about the jeboe pumps I have , but what I will say is I've never taken them apart to clean them in the two years I've had them🤔 just a tooth brushing but am always looking at new pumps look forward to the update , tanks looking good as always, !!!!! Happy Quarantining
✌🏼🏡🔒🍻
I watch your videos because I can compare to your no BS attitude, plus I like your content 👌🏽
Thanks I appreciate that
Switch to new jebao wavemakers. RW and WP series are the first two generation of Jebao and both don't last long. The OW series and SLW series are quite ok for the price. The one you purchase is also a chinese pump made by zksj. It is also quite good.
👍🏻
I have had mine for 7 years i clean them 1 every 2 months and still going strong in my 120 saltwater
Nice
My jebao pumps several yesrs running. One pump popped the head of due to water hammer.
Some are lucky
My G, for a 14 gallon sps tank which size do you recommend?
Smallest one they have.
@@MASSAquariums thanks G
The investment into eco tech products are worth it. Seems like a steep price to start but how much did it cost for the 5 jabao pumps and the hagger?
$250 for 5. They are fairly inexpensive so I guess I get what I paid for
@@MASSAquariums I was the same way years ago but now I'm a little older it seems like buying the bigger ticket things aren't so bad. Just think 25 years ago the best thing was an under gravel filter and the old maxi jets
i converted the magnets bracket as frag racks.
Nice. Good thinking
I thought mine was dead too..I unplugged it, pressed all the buttons and the thing came back to life. 3yrs old
I’ve done everything. I put it back in and would run for an hour then stop
I cleaned them out, plugged it back in and it fired right up
MASS Aquariums thank you very much. I’ll try that.
I have two vortec pumps running 24-7 fo five years no problems
How much?
I agree ! They just stop working for no reason
Yep
Jebao motor windings suck. They will short out no matter how often you clean it. Worse, you can't buy the powerhead only. You can only buy it with a controller. That's why I ended uphere. Looking at trying
hygger for a change. A bit more pricey, but it seems to be made much better than Jebao?
I like it so far
I've had my pp4 for about 4 years now and it's still going strong.
I wish mine did. I’ve been through way to many of these
I haven't had a jebao pump last longer than a year and that includes the other brands that use their pumps such as skimz.
Seems about right
I've had a rw jebao wavemaker for 5 years, never cleaned it and it's covered in coralline algae and it's still going strong. Yet I've been through 2 triple the cost aqua medic wavemakers in the same time. It's luck of the draw sometimes I think. And my aqua medic dc runner pump stopped after 2 years. I won't touch aqua medic again, but I'm all for jebao!
Yep. Luck of the draw I think
newsflash - Aquamedic pumps are rebranded jebao pumps :D
I've had the same jebao wavemakers on my tank for over 5 years. Never replaced a single one. If you keep them clean they last forever. If you're lazy and don't clean them then expect them to fail on you. You can buy $300 mp10s and experience the same thing if you dont keep them clean.
I keep them spotless.
I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks. You too stay home and stay safe
I just went to Coral box web site the only pumps they sell are Jebao! Engineered in Germany but made in China! This one was on there site also made in same factory im sure!
i have 2 and they have been going very well
👌🏼
Eem ising them for years mate , never had a problem. You are cleaning them to much . Just leave them for 6 months before clean
I have had 2 in 10 years so can't understand how your going through so many I love them but sometimes is the driver I have spare drivers sw my last driver failed used old one boom sorted
I must just have bad luck
Very rare a magnet motor dies so I’m thinking the same it’s his driver power going to it. Or the impellers break where they spin making it look like it’s not working.
Not sure if you know, it clearly states rhe impeller must be replaced ONCE a year on FISHSTREET website
I did not but they never last a year
If I was to use one for a freshwater tank would it kill shrimp?
I don’t think so. They’ll steer clear
Works great. Instructions suck in how to program. A couple good TH-cam setup reviews. Buy an iSea anemone small fish cover.
Thanks
I also had high hopes for Jabao, unfortunately they all died on me despite how well I'd maintained them. 😶
Yeah. That’s the luck with them.
Great vid again Mr Mass...cheers to staying healthy from the UK 👍
Cheers mate 🍻
yep like most here, if you don't go back you're a fool. Been running mine for years, and if one died I'd just get another without sweating price
🤷🏻♂️
Ha thats funny. My wife is working at home while i work at a hospital as a tech. and we have 3 kids 1 is being home schooled
Good luck. IV tech?
Take care, and be safe!!
🐟👊🏼
How is this pump doing now ? I'm considering buying this soooon
Still going strong
@@MASSAquariums nice !
I have had many tanks in a 10 year span and never had a Hydor Koraila fail.
Love my Hydor as well. They last forever. Jebao on the other hand eh
My jebao control crapped out in 2 weeks. Will be returning lol
Good luck.
how often do you do water changes and how much water do you take out
Every 2 weeks I do 5 gallons
Jaboa used to be ok ,good even. The last 2 i bought didnt last 6 months ,i wont be buying anymore .
I have had the worst luck with them
I stopped buying them, too. Got an AI NERO and I’ll never go back to anything else. People say they’re fish killers, but I haven’t lost any. 🍻
I’ll look into that
Both FishOfHex and Melvey sell guards for the Neros if you want to protect your fish
The slw20s are working well for me....so far lol...hope the new pump goes well for ya 🍻
🍻
I'm wondering what is your stance on the glofish?
Eh. I’ve never kept them. Don’t really have a stance on them
What kinda LED LIGHT OR T5 do you have on this beautiful tank
Mars Aqua
Cool
How’s the pump holding up?
Holding up great
Is the hygger to strong for a 75 gallon soft coral tank
Might be too weak honestly. Maybe bump up to the next gph
@MASSAquariums Im having a real difficult time finding a hygger pump that will be suitable for my 75 gallon I hear that the ( model HG042 ) 3400 GPH is to powerful ...
Any thought on which wave maker by Hygger ?
What about the Hygger ( Model HG 070- 12 W ) 1321 GPH ?
My tank has soft coral and a lps ..It's a basic 75 gallon Petco tank..
So what are your thoughts on that hygger pump? I am thinking about getting 4 of them for my 75 gal. Wondering what your thoughts are.
So far I like them. Working really well. Not super powerful but good enough
And btw, many thanks for the superchat last week!
Pulse mode kills those pumps. Ramping will last longer
Which ones the Jebao or Hygger
@@MASSAquariums Jebaos are a waste of money long term. They are very strong when new but never run them on pulse or they die.
do you clean it with vinegar?
I have tried all methods
Spent my last $50 on Jebaos two years ago. Lol. Hug wifey later I know she's working hard these days
Will do. Yeah she’s been mandated extra hours like crazy.
@@MASSAquariums We're all mandated too 😖
Life of a public servant. Stay safe broski.
You get what you pay for, jebao has is the best wavemaker for its price.
True
How do you clean them? Vinegar?
Vinegar or just hot water. I usually don’t let them get that dirty
Looks similar to the coral box wave pump.
How are they?
@@MASSAquariums they look decent from reviews I have seen. Haven't tried one yet. Just waiting for me jebao to break. Will prob order some spares soon.
U spend the same amount either way lol either all up front for a good one or split up into multiple crappy pumps whatever way makes u happy I guess, myself I prefer to buy a pump once and not worry about it for years to come that said all pumps have there bad eggs so no guarantees on the good ones either but a much better chance and usually nicer features and support
