Lai & Thuyen - Thuyen (Ch3-4)

The Japan Foundation presents “Lai and Thuyen”, an online performance, written and directed by FUJITA Takahiro from Mum & Gypsy, a leading contemporary Japanese theater company, in partnership with BIPAM. FUJITA Takahiro wrote the script, based on his interview with Thai and Vietnamese actors, a fiction which has Southeast Asian Countries as its background, and then created a unified mise en scene en Zoom platform.
The 流れと舟(Nagare to Fune) is the Japanese title of the project, combining Thai and Vietnamese titles altogether. ‘Nagare’ means flow (‘Lai’ in Thai), while ‘Fune’ means boat (‘Thuyen’ in Vietnamese). Blurring lines between the untold story and the actual happening at the interview, simple daily encounters flow along the river, from wellspring upstream, waterfall to the sea, bound together by the connection of 8 Thai performers, plus 8 Vietnamese performers and 2 cats.

国際交流基金（バンコク日本文化センター、ベトナム日本文化交流センター）は、日本の現代演劇界を代表する藤田貴大氏（マームとジプシー）とのオンライン演劇プロジェクトとして、藤田氏の脚本・演出による日本と東南アジア３カ国―フィリピン、タイ、ベトナムーそれぞれの国との協働作品を制作し、公開しました。
各国の俳優・アーティストが住んでいる地域、お気に入りの場所、生い立ちや家族・日常・食事、そのシーンではどのような風景が伴っていたかをふまえながらインタビューを実施。その場所にまつわるそれぞれの記憶から、ZOOM上で一つの街とそこに流れる時間が描き出されています。
本プロジェクトでは、まず2021年3月にフィリピンの俳優らとの協働作品『TAHANAN(タハナン)』を発表。続いて、2022年2・3月にタイ・ベトナム各国8名、計16名（と２匹の猫）の俳優・パフォーマー・アーティストとインタビューを実施し、映像作品『流れと舟（＝Lai & Thuyen）』を制作しました。それぞれ単独の作品としても成立させつつ、連作になるような構成となっています。
“流れ=Lai”がタイ語、“舟＝ Thuyen”がベトナム語です。2カ国とも、人々の生活や歴史が水と共にある国であり、また時間の流れや人の記憶など無形のものからイメージを得てタイトルをつけました。
