Thanks for this. I am have more success with your modified deck than with the original. The Pathways cards helps with the mana. The focus on mutate also makes it more direct.
Been using a tweaked version (didn't have all the wildcards) of the Vito lifegain deck and it's awesome! Thanks so much for this video. I played that mutate deck for a bit too, really fun but does get wrecked by creature removal. Cheers

Love videos like this (there aren't enough out there). My version of the Spellpower deck (which I modified from another deck I found online) went in a different direction, but I think is very good (like, able to compete in diamond/mythic good) and didn't require adding any rares in (stirxhaven added a few good cards for this deck). It ends up being a combo-ish deck to cast big weirds and then throw them at the opponent's face for lethal: -swap shock for frost bite I think -add 4 kazuuls fury lands in -get rid of all the cards above 4 mana -add in 4 copies of either Teach By Example or Dual Strike (or a combo of them) instead of double vision -take put the creatures (0 creatures in my deck) and put in a bunch of red spells that discard a card to draw more (seize the spoils, and the one that you discard 2 and draw 3). -get rid of the riddleforms and add in a pair of Serpentine Curve (this helps with any graveyard hate because the curve also counts things in exile) -add a couple of counterspells (maybe just a test of talents and a saw it coming or 2) -i also added in the blitz of the thunder raptors like you did. The general aim is to keep killing small creatures and digging through the deck to put spells in the graveyard. Then you can create big weirds/curves (experimental overload also lets you get back serpentine curve to cast it again). Kazuuls fury can throw the big token creature at the opponent's face to get past blockers. The Dual Strike/Teach By Example can be used to either double up on the Experimental Overload/Serpentine Curve (so you're adding two creatures that are usually 7/7 to 12/12 in size each) OR can copy the kazuuls fury which will only sacrifice the one creature but will deal the damage twice (so your 10/10 becomes instantly lethal). If you have 8 mana open (possible since seize the spoils gives you treasure tokens) you can cast Curve/Overload + Dual Strike/Teach + Kazuul to instantly kill them from full health in a lot of circumstances. Lots of fun with this deck. Also, side note about your presentation, maybe try to use a different adjective to 'interesting' to use, as you described about 80% of the cards as "this is another interesting card", which became less interesting by the end of the video :P really liked the video overall though :)
appreciate the feed back and kind of how you went about upgrading your deck from the starter. Ill agree with i need to open up my vocabulary a bit just got done with a video where my go to word was cool....
while looking through my settings for my mic in the go xlr software or in the sound settings on the computer I didn't see this setting anywhere. I use obs for my recordings and didn't see it there either so if you have a bit more info on where to look that be appreciated!

Hey, Iike these videos quite a bit. Just got into MTGA and learning about the best upgrade paths for the different starter decks seems like a good idea. So far I am enjoying the Massive Menagerie deck the most out of all the starters, so it would be cool if you could include that deck in a future video like this. Either was I am enjoying the videos!
Has Magic changed so much that an effective 4 more toughness become "not that good"?! Rookie Mistake seems an AMAZING card to me! You can block a beefier creature and not just die, that's AMAZING to me at least but I have been out of the game for a LONG time now(probably about 10 years), but I could not resist the call of the Forgotten Realms set as a big TTRPG player!!! I DEFINITELY feel like the mana curve has gotten MUCH higher than it used to be! I remember building entire decks that only had 16 to 18 land and the highest cost MIGHT have been as high as 5. I am very much out of my element now though! Still been having a good enough time but still tired of getting run over by the folks with too much money and there "great" Net decks!!! I miss my Goblin Charbelcher deck, that thing was AWESOME!!!
the power creep is definitely real compared to 10 years ago. They reprinted baneslayer angel in 2021 which was a power house when it first released and it barely made an impact on the format at all. Yeah the land count getting higher i think is in part that you don't really want to miss land drops as it will definitely put you behind.
Hey Skar, have you considered playing or showcasing or upgrading viewer submitted decks? I think this content could help begginer deck builders get some tips and get better by seeing common deck building mistakes
Massacre Wurm saves my ass constantly in my mutation station modified deck. Its more useful than you give it credit for and you probably haven't given it a chance. Its not the best for mutations but as a stand alone card, it has a solid place. Especially when your mutate monsters are getting outnumbered.
I'm a new player (as in haven't even unlocked all of the starter decks yet), but I feel as if I need to make a correction on one thing you said: Stern Dismissal. It actually synergizes really well with Mutate because you won't use on your opponents' creatures, you'll use it on your own. Mutate creatures aren't counted as enchantments, auras, or the like, so when you return those creatures to your hand it returns all of the stacked creatures. This is uber useful if a pacifism, control enchantment, or kill spell is used on a heavily invested creature. That being said, really enjoying your content and appreciate the help for beginners like me. Thanks.
that's actually a pretty good understanding of seeing that kind of play being newer to the game so kudos to that. Its great to hear someone else's perspective on why they may do something different or play something different because everyone's thought process isn't always the same. My friends play MTG a lot more than I do (money or the lack thereof) but always lend me their decks, so I have some knowledge of how to play. Honestly I usually find stuff like this out on accident by playing the decks repeatedly to try out different effects and combos. This has resulted in several losses, obviously, but for the occasional gem of knowledge like this it's worth it. I also feel an apology is in order as I didn't intend to sound as though you were wrong, merely that I disagreed with an opinion of yours. Sorry if it came across the wrong way.
so you can buy the packs that the specific cards come in or you can exchange wildcards for the card you want more copies of or create what you may not have. I do have a video here on the channel explaining wildcards i posted earlier this week with a bit more detail.

For the decks I just made changes to and didn't save a new copy to make changes, MTG Arena keeps matching me up with people playing the *same deck*, and it makes for a very boring game.

are you saying you don't have the decks I'm referencing in the video? If so there are daily quests that pop up once a day that you complete to unlock the starter decks. If it isn't that and your curious on how to acquire the cards to upgrade then yes grinding gold and wildcards will allow you craft the cards you are missing.

I literally just got my first 10k Gold, and am currently going through the colour challenges (all the play 25 xyz colour cards). My question is: should I attempt the Draft at this point. I wouldn't expect to win many games, but still wondering if its still worth it? thanks in advance.
i would do a bit of research on the set you are going to be drafting being a newer play to the draft play style there are many guides that will give you insight on what cards to be on the lookout for. Also there is quick draft where you draft against AI so the drafting is easier and i think it gets rid of the time limit for pick given more time to think about what you are taking.
I started playing this game a week ago. If this is a beginners guide then I have no chance. Where can I can a video for actual beginners who don’t know anything about the game?

Boon of the wishgiver was awesome with Shark Typhoon and Experimental Overload, so many big creatures! :D
Shark typhoon is definitely a fun card especially when you get value out of it like that.
Please turn off your voice activation on your mic and leave it on open broadcast. Will really help the audio quality

The spell power deck reminds me of the card kingdom spell check deck same idea just done a little differently.

its a good card though sometimes coming up with the triple black to cast it can be tricky so playing more then a couple copies isnt probably ideal.

To make these decks upgraded do you need to buy packs of specific ones or you get them as you grind 🤔

I just played aginst a guy whith the mutate deck and i lost, i can verify this is good
