Hey Mike, How would you lift those prints from each of those surfaces? For example, off of the textured siding and wood? Would Mikrosil or Durocast work the best since they can fill in the entire surface?
brandon beach I would use the diff-lift tape or black gel lifters. They work awesome. I have another video showing how to lift off of textured surfaces. I use those items.
Hey Mike, I'm using a Lumatec Superlite M 05. Can I just ask about torch techniques. Do you always shine the light source at an angle to your target or do you ever find shining you light straight on helpful? I know white light can give a lot of glare back but do you find the same with UV or Blue? thanks
Sean Campbell If I am not looking for foot impressions I will shine the light at many angles to find the best print. Most of the time I find the angles work best. For footwear, I always use oblique/side lighting.
Hey Mike, So you lift the print after putting fluroscent powder, and analyse it again using UV back in a lab ? Like can you (or do you) use techniques like super glue fumming or something so the print is visible to the naked eye after you have applied the powder ? I just want to know if you want to show the print to the court, do we click a high resolution photograph of the print under Blue light ? This will be admissible right ? Also is powder a better way to go about than other things like iodine crystals and fuming ? Like lets say i find a can on a crime scene, i dont have to use powder on it right there,i can pack it and use those techniques in the lab ?
Rahim, Thanks for the comment. The use of light will vary depending on the type of evidence that you are examining. If you are just dusting for fingerprints then I would fume it first for sure. Then I would use the fluorescent powder. If you are examining the object at a lab, you may want to use a dye before the dusting, but still fume first. If you choose to use the fluorescent powder to develop the print, you can still lift it with tape or hinge lifter. The print can be shown in court if necessary and a 1:1 photograph can be taken of the print as well. I hope this helps. Julian Williams if you buy it from LynnPeavey.com it is just called Battle lite. You can change the tips for the color you want I.e. UV, blue, green, etc.

I have tested this myself and UV light will not illuminate semen without the proper eyewear filter. I have no idea why you're saying only blue light needs the orange goggles. UV does also. Not for bone fragments or other near-white items that will naturally fluoresce, but semen and urine definitely will not light up without any eyewear.
RationallySkeptical I have been doing this for years and never wear googles for UV light. I am not sure why it wouldn't work for you. It is like using a black light. The black light bulb illuminates light colored objects without any filtered googles. The googles are actually filtering out parts of the light. With UV, there is no need to wear the googles. I have used UV to find urine and semen numerous times. Just like the sample card I use. No tricks, just science. Thanks for watching.

Nice instructive video. Do you know what ´type´ the orange/amber filter is?
For filming purposes I used an orange shield to cover the camera. I usually use goggles or I have just square orange plastic shields.

Whatever color gives you the best contrast. I like the green. As long as it is a high quality powder, any color should do.
Hi Mike, what's the wavelenght for observe Gunshot Residues?
Ondskan Bolton try 450-522 with orange or yellow filter. If that doesn't work try UV 370-390 and use same filters. Let me know if it works.
