Let's just call it like it is.... new artist simply aren't as talented. It is a different time. The problem is technology has made it too easy to get on and go viral. Great beats and autotune can cover up weak rhymes. Back then, record labels were the gate keepers that kept quality high. Now we are in an era of quantity over quality and anyone can put out a song.
To a degree yes, a lot of young folk are not aspiring to be mcs they want the trappings of the rap lifestyle (fame, money, women, materialism, etc.) which ironically you can get without getting on the mic....I do think hip hop is missing curators of the art form. Even in the golden era there was good and bad records, but the curators thru the djs set the standard. Now an algorithm curated to an individual dictates terms. I think talent will rise but who are the folks curating to help project them to the world. I truly believe when the DJ became disconnected from the MC is when hiphop began to decline, and subsequently rap music came up.
@@jman1562001 Yeah, rapping is the new come up and escape from the hood. The focus isn't on the art form but using it as a hustle. The problem with hip hop is that as an art form, you can still be fairly mediocre and "make it". You don't actually have to be as good as Kane, Rakim, and all the other greats and actually be successful. 8:00 - Omar drops a major spiritual gem. HipHop is light energy. It brings people together as one on a higher level. Within the culture we build, teach and learn. It's an energy of enlightenment and manifestation. A path to a higher self where we can surpass the limitations of the impoverished or difficult environments we are raised in. All without compromising who we are, how we talk and how we dress. Not from a mindset of assimilation and colonization but from a position of self awareness, self love, and empowerment. For some it's materialistic and about money. But that's because it's their first time having any major money and they are trying to manifest more.

The "world" has a way of swallowing those principals n beliefs of their not strong. Those that are spiritual know what im talkin about. That part of yourself that sells itself to the passions n desires that are anti-God. Its a shady business n atmosphere. Remember in the 5 heartbeats movie where the parents gave they son a bible n said for him to stay close to God. What did he do what everyone else did n how did he end up? Not listening to wisdom. He was going into an industry that was anti-God.
Mr.Epps is very eloquent and pushing this interview well.Kane is my favorite emcee.Actually got his autograph 30 years ago on the back of a picture because I didn't have any other thing to write on.
Truth about the last part they spoke on is that the people with money are more unhappy then people without because of APPRECIATION. And the appreciation comes from balance of both possitives and negatives. You have to have both, or you begin to lose meaning. A less fortunate person finds a handfull of changes on the ground, that may make his day. That may be their next meal or a means for them to watch their only few pairs of clothes at the laundry. They appreciate it. To a rich dude, thats spare change...meaningless. People with extravagant homes and multiple vehicles sometimes after a while begin to no longer appreciate and value them because they are so long removed from the struggle it took to once acquire them. But the homeless person who walks 5 miles every day to earn a couple dollars from a job just to have food to put in his stomach or to take care of his family would just be happy to finaly have transportation. You have to have both good and bad in life, the balnce one another out. Bad makes one appreciate good, pain makes one appreciate love, death makes one appreciate life...and so fourth. So when the rich remove all the negatives that once existed, that money can fix, after a while they lose touch with that struggle and get complacent. The once driving force is no longer their motivation, and they begin to lose their self. Unknowingly now searching for new motivation that comes in the form of new problems. Without needing to overcome something, or defeat something standing in their way...without the pain, suffering, or struggle they are lost searching for purpose and become miserable. And the unknowing or unrealizing natural habit in alot of cases is that they then devolope new problems! May be bad habits like drugs or gambling. May be mental or something else, but it then allows for the new purpose, the new drive, the new motivation in their lives that they didnt realize they needed when their money erased all the struggles that once existed in their lives early on...
The reason they like to paint the picture in hip hop that you're old is so they don't have to pay you what you're worth! It's like the NFL, once you get off of the rookie contract now you're able to make big money. So the industry give you these 360 deals so that you will always be on your rookie contract. And then they will go out and find a new artist to repeat the cycle over and over again. It is an attempt to never allow the artist to get off of their rookie contract! It's up to us not to allow that to happen!
Rap is a love story ..depends how you fell in love with it …can’t knock the youth it’s their culture . We can’t act like the tacticians didn’t exist . Always pay homage and understand where it all come from .

Denzel Washington or and Will Smith interview would be dope on this show.
Good talk! All truth!
Rap is a love story ..depends how you fell in love with it …can’t knock the youth it’s their culture . We can’t act like the tacticians didn’t exist . Always pay homage and understand where it all come from .
But Alot Of Them Don't Pay Homage & Understand Where It Comes From Or Even Cares... That's The Main Problem
Ones of the most valid culture platforms going bar none
