    Aris had a pretty profound moment during the opening weekend of the Tekken World Tour, and the results really drove the point home.

      @@joshjones9749 it would be a problem if tekken did a good job at teaching fundamentals to new players, as it stands new players hop online and get eaten alive 3-0 often not even knowing what it is they did wrong. i love tekken and i agree that you have to get beat up to become good at fighting but tekken is a horrible experience for new players if they're not resilient and genuinely love the game

      @@enderborn9209 If they want to be good at the game they gotta accept that fighting games demand practice and research. You almost have to have a musician's mindset in that you never really stop learning or practicing when it comes to fighting games. Then at some point after a little while you turn on the game and the practice pays off.

    Speaking of the side gig shit...
    I am in university, and I got this one professor who plays fighting games (primarily Tekken and MK). We talked about the FGC one time during break, and he just told me that if fighting games has the same prize money offers like those MOBAs, he would quit teaching and pursue eSports, and would stream.
    EDIT: I also remembered that he said that, our country (Philippines) does not care about other eSports, it only cares about MOBAs. See, we got this guy in our Senate who supports eSports, but can't actually see wtf is going on. When AK got 2nd place in EVO Japan, he never got recognition from our gov't lmao.

      to play and learn fighting games the right way you must practice/study for 70% and play against humans for 30% of the time specially for newcomers, unlike other eSports games where the practice is actually just playing and enjoying the game online

    I've been playing competitive videogames for more than 10 years.
    I played every kind of stuff. I MEAN, EVERY KIND (or almost ... I never played RTS). And I also followed every kind of community/competitive scene.
    Mobas, classic fps, arena fps, battle royale fps, new fps like overwatch/paladins, racing games, turn based games, card games, and of course, FIGHTING GAMES.
    I came to the conclusion that the biggest difference that distinguishes fighting games from other games is the HUGE gap between newbies and average players.
    In almost every other game, becoming a decent player doesn't require the same time, the same dedication, the same hard work and the SAME SKILLS, that requires being A DECENT PLAYER AT FIGHTING GAMES. Usually the hard part is becoming a "PRO PLAYER"; because the gap between average players and pros is REALLY BIG.
    In fighting games the hard part is the initial approach. Don't get me wrong, there is obviously a difference between pros and good players, but it's not THAT BIG, like it is in other games.
    I mean, to become a good LoL player, Dota2 player, CSGO player, COD player, Overwatch player, Rainbow6 player, Apex player, PUBG player, Fortnite player, UT player, Quake player, Hearthstone player, Rocket League player, TrackMania player or whatever, you need to play and practice for weeks/months. Then, you'll most likely reach an average level, unless you're bad of course.
    Yes, there are some differences, logically, between every game (for example, arena fps aren't beginner friendly like battle royale games).
    But fighting games are a completely different world.
    In fighting games, ESPECIALLY IN TEKKEN, after some weeks or some months, even with more training sessions, with more sacrifices, with more dedication ... YOU'RE STILL A NOOB. Slightly better than before, but STILL A NOOB. The effort you have to put into it is GIGANTIC. And I think that it can't be a coincidence that the "OLDEST" community with the "oldest" players of them all, is the fighting games community.
    Just look at Tekken pro players: JDCR is 30, Qudans is 32, Knee is probably 35 or something like that, Chanel, Saint, Take and Yuu are "old" as well, Tanukana is 26, Tissuemon is 33, Nobi is 28, Majin is 31, Spero Gin is 31, PokChop is 32, JTRAN is 30, JoeyFury is 26 ... Half of the so called "tekken pro scene" is formed by people that are over 25 years old.
    The average age in other games is 21/22 years old, even lower in some cases (3 LoL players that became world champions in 2018 weren't even 20, and one of them was 17) ...
    It can't be a coincidence.
    It's a fact; the learning curve in fighting games is way more sharp than others, but once you got there, the road to become "pro" isn't THAT long and stiff.

Plus work, relationships, and a dedication to another discipline I actually have talent for means I’ll probably stay in green ranks till Tekken 8 comes out in 10 years.

      Dude don’t stop entirely, a lot of Tekken players acknowledge that after being accustomed to higher levels of play you can easily get thrown off by someone playing “unorthodox” at least until you download them, losing to friends that aren’t as good is always a good experience and humbling is natural.

    • @machinejuice5965
      @machinejuice5965 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Ken I dont know dude, I hear you but the way I see it I'm "good enough" at tekken to have fun. as long as that's the case I'm gonna keep playing. also I think the beauty of Tekken is that low rank less experienced players still have a chance to beat high level players to an extent.

    • @machinejuice5965
      @machinejuice5965 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ken well its really only to an extent right? like once you download a low level player it will be super hard for them to beat you. they wont be able to rely on your lack of match up knowledge to win after a bunch of fights because you will then be getting used to that match up, and how the my play. plus good fundamentals go a really long way, obviously you know that.

    • @2000Doriyas
      @2000Doriyas 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But if someone else doesn’t have good fundamentals and relies on the same 5 gimmicks you’re gonna figure them out and eat them from there on.

    • @joshjones9749
      @joshjones9749 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Ken It doesnt take long to learn and shut down gimmicks in T7 tho. Lucky Chloe for example all her gimmicks can be learned and dealt with in 10 minutes in practice mode. At that point it will come down to how good the player is. Alot of it is taking a critical look at what moves beat you and practicing against the moves themselves. Players who get into the specifics will always do better than players who have a general idea of the game.

    Fighting games are mostly based around mind games. You are constantly thinking about your next move and your hands movements come second. Time is completely irrelevant for mastering fighting games like Tekken, because everyone is learning at a different pace. If I would dedicate 8+ hours a day for years to come I would still probably not be a good player at Tekken.
    What makes the difference is the level of curiousity and the environment. As long as you're not extremely inquisitive and /or don't have access to arcades you have better chances winning in lotto than becoming a pro.
    That's also evident by the fact that most pro players use sticks. I'm not trying to start a debate on whether sticks or pads are better. It's a fact that growing up with stick / arcade experience gives you an edge over pad players. This makes players like Sonicfox look even better imo guys like him are monsters.

    • @xOmniCloudx
      @xOmniCloudx 5 ปีที่แล้ว

If you don't have key things like a reaction time at a certain level you will never be good. Some people can play all day but they've hit a ceiling and won't get any better. However I don't believe that you're born a Tekken player or not. It takes a lot of practice.
