    I have wanted an oud for over a year, and I just bought one two days ago! I bought it in Hurgada, Egypt, at a music store. It’s not their beginner oud, but a bit better. I paid 1,800 pounds (US$115).

      Hey, that’s a great story! Did you have to bring it back to the West? Like England or the United States? I want those kind of people to just does ridiculous amounts of research and study before I buy something. I was going to buy something online, and I found an oud repairman in my town who was willing to investigate the instruments. I found if I sent him the link. And I found out all about the differences of the tunings. The difference between Arab instruments and Turkish servers. And then one day out of nowhere, I saw an ad for a beautiful beautiful instrument made in Tunisia. And the fellow lived in my hometown. It was associated with the music conservatory and he sold me this gorgeous instrument for $400. The best part was I have a really bad arthritis and I was really afraid to buy an instrument with the traditional tuning pegs that you have to push in while you tune. And it just so happens that this particular instrument had guitar style tuning pegs. So all my hard work and research that lasted two years finally paid off now I have to do is practice, practice, practice.

    Bought my first Oud last week but been in love for over 40 years. Took one week intense course and can barely handle the Reesha. Bought in Alexandria Egypt and I will have to master it, however long it takes.

    I’ve been playing guitar for many years would it be difficult to transition to the oud? I cannot read music and rely on tabs to learn

    • @OudforGuitarists
      @OudforGuitarists  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question.
      It's not difficult to transition to Oud. But there are some learning curves. We don't use tabs. People either learn the music by ear, or with standard western notation. I teach both ways. If you want to discuss this further you can email me at support@oudforguitarists.com or book a free consultation with me here:

    is it important to have the same tuning as is for example i chose an online teaching course and teacher has a do to do tuning but my oud is f to f , domi need to change my tuning?

    • @OudforGuitarists
      @OudforGuitarists  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the basics, I personally think it's okay to use fa to fa even if your teacher uses do to do me vice versa. It also depends on the learner too. Some people need extra help and clarity so sometimes I recommend the same tuning.

      It depends where you live. If you live in New York city there are some shops that sell entry level ouds. But they are not guitar shops. Most people buy from other people or they buy online.
