The Best Way To See Old Manila

- In this video we tour the old city of Manila - Intramuros.
Things started off eventful as our grab driver lost internet service on the way to drop us off. So did we. It seemed there was a service outage in the area, only later did we find out it affected everyone and was done on purpose. But we weren't sure why...
After figuring out a solution to get to the old city, we were quickly greeted by a tuk tuk tour guide. We decided this would be the best way to explore the city. Not only would it save us from walking so much with the kids, we would get to learn more about the history from the guide.
I'm glad we went with Elmo, the tuk tuk tour guide. He did an excellent job and we had a fabulous adventure learning all about the history of Manila.
He even drove us back to Chinatown after the tour.
I hope you enjoy the video!
Intramuros, also known as Old Manila, is a historic walled area within the city of Manila, the capital of the Philippines. It spans 0.67 square kilometers (0.26 square miles) and is administered by the Intramuros Administration in collaboration with the city government of Manila. Here are some key points about Intramuros:
Historical Significance: Intramuros is the oldest district and the historic core of Manila. It played a crucial role during the Spanish colonial era as the center of government, religion, economy, education, and power2. The walled city served as the seat of government for the Captaincy General of the Philippines and housed the colony’s governor-general from its founding in 1571 until 1865. It was also the religious and educational hub of the Spanish East Indies.
Educational Institutions: The original campuses of the University of Santo Tomas (the oldest university in Asia) and the Ateneo de Manila were located in Intramuros before they transferred to their current locations. Today, the area still contains the main campuses of the University of the City of Manila, the Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Mapúa University, Philippine Nautical Training Colleges, the Colegio de Santa Rosa, and Manila High School.
Economic Center: Intramuros was also an economic hub. Its port in what is now Plaza Mexico served as the Asian hub of the Manila galleon trade, carrying goods to and from Acapulco in present-day Mexico.
Fort Santiago: Near the mouth of the Pasig River, you’ll find Fort Santiago, which, along with a series of bulwarks and gates, fortified the city against foreign invasions. Adjacent to Fort Santiago is the reconstructed Maestranza Wall.
In summary, Intramuros is a treasure trove of Spanish-era influences, a living testament to Manila’s rich history, and a must-visit for anyone interested in exploring the heart of Old Manila

It's nice that you manage to find a tuktuk to take you around Intramuros
It was a great tour 👍
Intramuros is the old walled Spanish colonial town of Manila,...the tour is worth your while n you have a very knowlegeable tour guide..... originally before WW2, Intramuros have 7 churches n 2 universties but unfortunately only 2 church remained standing after the war....Manila was the second most devastated city after the war nxt to Warsaw, Poland...another trivia...Manila was once known as the "Paris of Asia", because of the many Neo Classical , Art Deco n Beaux Arts design of the buildings, but unfortunately many of these buildings lay in ruins n never rebuilt in its original design...still some of these beautiful buildings were restored n can be seen in Escolta st. in the Binondo area where Chinatown is located...
We learned so much during the tour. There's a lot of history from the war I never learned in school in the US. It was interesting to see.
Thanks for watching 🙏
The San Agustin Church is a UNESCO world heritage site. The local ice cream is called sorbetes. The Filipino ice cream is different because instead of milk we used coconut milk and it has fruit bits also

Nice! My old digs. I went to colegio de San Juan de Letran in the 80's which is behind the San Agustin Church. I never really toured the place because my viewpoint was just as a student then. Never knew those old places behind the school. But I used to cross that bridge to Chinatown to get to shopping district bec that's where to cool off for free air-conditioning. Haven't been back in over a decade. But I always go that area when Im there. Thanks for video! I miss the old sod. Coming home!
Glad you enjoyed 👍 Thanks for watching 🙏

Nice tour, I was born in Manila but learned a lot from the tour. 😅
It was a great tour. Thanks for watching 🙏
Dont just say yes to vendors right away. Ask around. But thxs for giving business to locals
200 pesos pedicab tricycle fee from Lucky Chinatown to Intramuros is a very reasonable price. Thanks for being honest Mamang driver. But for the tour guide, I am not really sure, since walking around Intramuros is more fun to do unless the weather doesn't favor it. That little girl is so adorable.
For that kind of tour for 200 pesos, that is so cheap.
@@chessmaster9842 nope. 200 was asked by the pedicab driver, whereas the Intramuros tour guide asked for 350 for each person. Not sure if he did ask for the children.
Yes, the first ride was very reasonable so we agreed right away.
The kids were free for the tour 👍
Thank you for watching 🙏

Are theses people authorised to do a tour?
I believe so, our guide worked for a tour company 👍 Thanks for watching 🙏
You’re not in Thailand. You are in the Philippines. Those are not tuktuks. They are trikes which is short for tricycles.
Korek
👍 thanks for watching 🙏
nakakahiya talaga pinoy, mga naglilimos. mga pulubi. kaya hindi tayo nirerespeto ng china.
@@OurTinyAdventure
Thailand called it tuktuk but here in Philippines I call it TIKTOK😂😂
Be kind because they don't know and besides it's really a tuktuk. Tricycle is way different
Its tricycle, not tuk tuk .
interesting...they took down the internet so kids will actually go to church and not stick thier faces online.
Perhaps. Our tour guide said it was to prevent potential attacks. It was a very adventurous day! Thanks for watching 🙏
It's not tuktuk 😅
