My thought exactly. She was the only performer (to be fair, I only watched the performances) that I felt had the potential to be a great soloist AND do well commercially, even in the currently oversaturated female soloist market where almost ALL of them are being ignored for their music output and stage charisma, especially domestically.

I think that the favoritism nearly killed Illit as a whole. The center is what people look for and they took what they do best and ignored what potential everyone else had and only focused on the center.
I haven't watch the show, so Im very confused why she debuted based on the illit encores ive seen. Was her visuals going very viral during the show premiere

If you watch the bad boy performance from r u next (jiwoo and chanelle) and the bad girl good firl performance (yunah and minju and jeemin). And then youngseo and moka r in the tomboy performance. The bad boy performance was labeled as the “vocalists” of the show by the contestants themselves, yet none of them debuted. The bad girl good girl were the charismatic performance. Yet they favored wonhee throughout the whole show and even evil edited chanelle to make it seem like she was mad at wonhee. The whole group is centered around wonhee and if you watch all of wonhee performances her dance is bad (very stiff) her stage presence is bad for majority of the time, and the only thing she can do is sing (her vocal skills aren’t amazing tho). And if you watch r u next performance YOULL see that every other member of illit except wonhee is versatile and can do more mature girl crush concept, but bc of wonhee they couldn’t do that

Yunah's aura and appearance during the Bad Girl Good Girl stage as well her current situation immediately reminded me of Somin of Kard, whose company tried to mould her into fitting April's softer image despite her obviously having a more mature, girl crush look.

i never watched r u next, nor am i tuned in to anything illit is doing, but yunah is the member i feel the most bad for especially after watching this vid…. i hope she’ll soon have her moment to shine that’ll solidify her as one of k-pop’s it girls. she’s too young and talented to be stripped of so much potential this early into her career!!!

I think it’s true she doesn’t fit Illit’s concept, and it’s not cause of her age (she’s literally the same age as Minju and Moka, so that makes no sense). She just doesn’t fit the cute concept that Illit has. She clearly would fit a stronger concept better. And I agree with another comment I saw saying Illit isn’t fully Y2K and if they were maybe Yunah would fit that better. Illit has a cutesy girl/anime girl spin on Y2K type of concept.
I think with proper styling she could literally be the Zakuro (from Tokyo Mew Mew) of the group. Just like Zakuro she stands out for being quite tall, yet there's cohesiveness. With her current styling like in that Studio Choom video, it's so glaringly obvious they can't poof her out properly without elongating her features. Now that I think about it, most GGs on debut really get formulated in makeup with a "template" look.

On these survival shows, the "live" singing is heavily edited. They don't want to make their future idols look bad. What you heard in the encore performance is how they would have sounded if the live-singing was not edited. Yunah was not a bad live-singer during that infamous encore stage in my opinion, I think she sounded ok. Iroha and Moka got the most criticism and deservedly so.

Tbh I also think that the song is not for them. Runext also shows practice clips of their singing during practice and raw vocals, and they all did well, hell you can just look it up and find Wonhee singing ssfwl pretty decently same with Moka. They seriously sang better while jogging compared to every encore they've done currently. I'm really looking forward for their next comeback to turn it around and show their talents.

i honestly thought they were going to have some kind of strong concept given Yunah, Yeongseo, Iroha and Moka was in the line up. Minju is extremely flexible and I thought wonhee could adjust but they came out with magnetic which was a surprise but it's ok. they do have the dreamy concept hopefully they switch into the dark room/.nightmare so they can do girl crush or something

Let's be so for real right now.... They copied several dance moves from new jeans including from the song and mcdonalds commercial and styling. The group was even confused as new jeans by not only the public and brands featured at a fashion show, but by new jeans own parents. They lean more to the cute concept, but its very clear they copied a group in the same company that debuted 1-2 years ago.
Its not the members fault though. BeLift should've focused on a concept that would suit the members as a whole. They even eliminated talented members just to ensure they could maintain this concept.

Yunah and iroha. Both would thrive so much more in a different concept and maybe even group. Favouritism and the company ruined it.
i feel like if youngseo stayed, the group would be more balanced and she wouldn't stand out so much as someone who "doesn't suit the concept."
She would def still stand out as an outcast of illit. Youngseo (even how badass she can be) still fits dreamy/cute kind of concept same with minju. But with yunah, she will always look weird in this, aside from her being TALL and her members kinda short, they dresses her so awkwardly adding insult to the injury. If Jeemin or other tall girls debuted with this group, it will less make it awkward. Same with Snsd's Sooyoung with Gee and during their early cute concept, since there are also tall girls in the group like Yuri, Yoona and Seohyun, Sooyoung was not seen as an akward idol during that concept. Imagine if 90% of them are like Taeyeon and Sunny's height 😂 I believe its not about the concept itself since magnetic is kinda good but the group dynamic, yunah only fits with minju but the others are too young looking compared to her (even with the same age bracket). We will have to wait if they will switch to a more mature concept and see the dynamics in that. But, their height difference is really a big factor haha
While i know that illit will bring her alot of money, i wouldn't be sad or angry if she left the group or company. She deserves so much more than what she is bieng given.
Also If you notice she is currently the least marketed member almost all of the other girl have been on variety shows, but she hasn't (atleast not by herself)
She won't leave, she's already in the age range of overage idols that companies consider. Leaving is one big risk to do, one thing you should know is that Yunah is the one that needs these companies, not the other way around. There are thousands of trainees that can replace her and even if it hurts, is a fact. She is the most unpopular member of illit currently and no big company is gonna get her, maybe smaller ones will, but she'll probably just be another Jinni case, except much less popular. Her opportunities are very minimal now. Her best bet is illit and hope it'll be better in the future.

They just dropped behind the scenes of ILLITS first variety show attendance which included yunah,wonhee,and moka .. yunah is not the least marketed what are you even talking about her being the least popular is not the same thing .

yunah was my favorite on the show, I was totally captivated by her with her bad girl good girl stage, I have never watched a survival show performance so many times since nako's gfriend performance in p48. I was so sad when I saw the comments about her during their debut :( but also how the company made her change her appearance to fit their concept because its such a waste that she was already so beautiful before. And honestly I didn't see much criticism about her live vocals during their encore, I actually seen more praises for her and mainly criticism towards moka
I actually am that person you mentioned towards the end of the video. I only watched the first few episodes of R U Next, so I don't remember all the contestants, but Yunah is the one I remember most distinctly. She definitely felt like an "it girl" and I thought she would be the next big thing in girl groups. I thought it was a given that she would make it to the final group, and I'm glad she did, but I'm shocked at learning she almost didn't make it. I don't know the specifics of how the show was run because I bailed early, but I thought they had on their hands the makings of a great girl crush group. I was so surprised when I saw the final lineup and concept.

Honestly ILLIT would've slayed that concept. Yunah and Iroha would devour ai/cyberpunk or badass girl crush concept, they definitely suit more mature vibe than ILLIT's current concept. They would make such powerful centers in those concepts. Just look at Yunah in bggg and Iroha in shut down performance.
Moka and Minju would do well in any concept due to their visuals and stage presence. Wonhee is the only one who I think is not that versatile, ILLIT's current concept is her comfortable zone she suits this concept the best. But as a group I want ILLIT's creative team to change their style and concept. The current concept does not play in favor of Yunah and Iroha at all. Also the extreme focus on Wonhee is sometimes annoying, the company is pushing her a lot as the center but since she is not strong enough to be in that position, the whole group ends up looking messy and weak.
As for the age comments, MINJU, YUNAH and MOKA are adults they are 20, IROHA and WONHEE are 16. But due to their concept and styling all of them look like minors which is why most people bash them a lot for debuting too young or debuting as minors. Whereas other 5th gen groups like Baby monster(22, 19, 18,17,17,16,15) are at similar age or even younger than ILLIT but they hardly get comments about their age since they have more mature concept people assume they are older.
Yunah is absolutely beautiful, and I couldn't take an eye apart from her when I saw her in illit. I just wish Illit can pass all this hate and move on to better songs and concepts.
Honestly if illit wasn’t so centred on Wonhee( whom I’m so sorry always looks so scared) they would have done well.Iroha and Yunah are really talented Vocals, Dance, Stage presence and expressions. HYBE never choses the talented ones. Only the visuals. Wonhee has potential, I can see it. She's super pretty and nice but did she deserve to debut? No. Don't get me wrong, I adore Wonhee, but she lacks expressions, vocals, and dancing. If the show wasn't rigged and if she didn't debut, the group could've gone for a more fierce concept, which would suit Yunah, Moka, Minju, and Iroha. But because Wonhee lacks training, they went for a cuter concept. Talk about pretty privilege lol. Tbh Wonhee shouldn't have debuted at all, especially because of the toxic environment. I hope they will train her well!
I 100% agree. They should’ve kept Wonhee off the show and signed her as a trainee instead. If she had trained for 1.5-2 years, she would’ve been able to develop her skills and, crucially, would be a bit older and more able to handle the pressure of the industry. And because Hybe prioritized photoshoots and fashion shows pre-debut, she didn’t even get a fully dedicated training period out of the few months she had.
I don’t put any hopes on HYBE doing their jobs - they clearly don’t plan for artists long term and I’ll never forget Jimin saying he had to pay a vocal couch from his own pocket cause the management said it was a waste and he didn’t need it. Their whole business plan is pump visually appealing acts and get the most profit out of them as possible while using BTS and SVT as safety nets.

It was clear they never intended the public to have a say in the lineup. They already had their concept chosen before debut hence why we only got two picks and koreans ended up making up 75% of the overall voting due to the live voting ratio. They rigged it to get who they wanted in the lineup. They couldn't rig the votes themselves so they rigged the percentage of how they were counted and kept it a secret of how the voting worked until the very end
Wonhee should have been an actual *trainee* , thats what the whole concept of trainee is for, for the person with potential to develop better before being considered to be in a group. I don't undestand Hybe
hybe completely nerfed yunah's it-girl potential by forcing her into this cutesy dreamy concept. on the contrary, moka wasn't very popular during r u next but because she fits ill'it's concept so well, she's soared in popularity
5:47 because most of the time the perfomances we saw ,atleast on r u next were in heavy post production or prerecorded.Most members that were chosen aren’t even vocalists so hybe uses their usual lip sync formular ,by hiding their live singing behind prerecorded vocals.Why let them sing live if you can have their perfect smoothen out voices play on track while performing ,that’s what hybe probably thinks.I mean let’s be real here it was clear since the beginning that the group wasn’t going to become a vocally centered group ,given by how the survival show didn’t even let us to hear their real singing voices,besides some minor instances.
It's not like Illit will do the same concept forever anyway, it's fine if not everyone fits it.
Trends come and go too...people say natural hair is signature of New Jeans, but it's been done countless times before, e.g. Gfriend. Same thing for transitioning from cutesy concepts to girlcrush...one group starts and everybody follows. It's just the nature of pop.
I think it's more important for fans to not confine kpop groups to one concept, or else that group is more likely to lose popularity and disband once the trend dies.
Cette vidéo résume tellement bien mon sentiment à l’égard de Yunah. Il m’arrive de retourner regarder cette prestation avec nostalgie et je me dis que Hybe n’a pas vu la potentielle it girl qu’ils avaient entre leurs mains. Elle avait exactement la même aura que Karina. Elle se démarquait tellement positivement. Je me disais qu’elle allait assurément faire ses débuts avec Jeemin et Minju toutes les trois ensemble car l’alchimie entre les 3 dans cette prestation était excellente.
Dès le 1er épisode, à part elle, seul le trio des vocalistes (Chanelle, Jiwoo et Jongeun) et Youngseo et son groupe m’avait vraiment marqué. J’étais persuadé que les gagnantes seraient forcément les meilleures de ses lots là et assurément le groupe aurait un concept avec une aura forte.
Même si je suis contente de la voir réaliser son rêve, il m’arrive de me dire qu’elle aurait mieux fait que quitter ce lineup et faire ses débuts ailleurs car elle est invisible dans ce groupe alors qu’elle avait le plus de potentiel dans l’émission.
Yunah was my top pick on the show, and while watching the finale live and seeing the other members of I'LL-IT (now it's changed to ILLIT), I actually hoped that they would choose Jeongeun or Himena, who I thought would fit the concept better. I didn't want to lose Yunah to a group that we knew would debut with a cute concept, obviously because Wonhee was there. I can't fully support ILLIT, as much as I would want to, only because my top pick deserved more.

It always makes me uncomfortable when people trash-talk about one artist/idol to highlight their favs, I'm sure Yunah is a very talented girl, but the hate towards Wonhee in this comment section is despicable. The girl trained one month before joning the RU Next show, improved a lot, worked hard, has strong star quality, she's is just a natural idol, you can't deny that. Why degrading her to defend Yunah's case? she doesn'y need that, none of the girls need that. Plus, I'm sure the reason why they went for that concept it's because Hybe (Belift Lab) wanted their own New Jeans to prove Ador they can do better, BPD always had his disagreements about how the new group should look and act and now finally he had his way, that's all. It's completely unfair to blame one member for the concept, when everyone knows the concept and style of music was just the consequence of Hybe petty internal fights.

illit isn’t y2k, nor is “y2k” a solely young concept. actual y2k is cybercore, what most people mean when they refer to y2k is either mcbling or 2000s fashion/nostalgia in general, which is pretty diverse
she has that strong charisma and fits stronger/bolder/mature concepts which is something illit doesn’t have. after illit debuted i decided to check the bad girl good girl stage and got surprised to see how different and much more confident she looked there. i hope we get to see more sides of her soon!

from the minute yunah started her bad girl good girl performance she instantly became my favourite, and my one pick for the rest of the show. i think what's special about her is how much opinions on her change. even though hybe started off painting her as the evil character on the show, by mid way through everyone saw through that and started to love her, even the korean audience which is really saying something. considering illit's concept, i don't think hybe ever intended her to debut, she wasn't a producer's pick but voted in by popularity alone. im sad that things turned out this way, but still just so unbelievably grateful that she got to debut. i just wish youngseo had been there too. in some ways i would like if illit only had a two year contract, then she could redebut in a group more suited to her.

I dont really think that She doesnt “fit” Illit’s concept, but the thing is that She cant do the “cutesy character”. I think She fits the concept, but more like a big sister or the “cool one” of the group. For example, in lucky girl syndrome, she has the last part, she looks confident and the dance and part of the song really suist her kinda “cool girl” style. While still being in the concept. And i also like that the outfits kinda reflect that (not in the first presentation of magnetic, bc that doesnt fit her AT ALL)

5:43 it’s because survival shows do post-recording editing to slightly pitch-correct their vocals. At least that’s what I heard from another analysis yt video like this. And tbh it checks out, bc it’s impossible to find any K-pop performance nowadays that doesn’t have either a backing track or pitch correction added to it. This leads me to think that whatever you hear in the encore are their true raw singing abilities. And I believe that.

as someone who didn't watch RUN all i can say is... she FITS. literally the first girl that caught my eyes. and obv me, lurking around to find how versatile she was that she can pull fierce concept in the survival show. ppl r so fixed to have her be the mould she are in RUN. going too far to say hybe burried her. gosh old time kpop concepts are often change at anytime. why do kpop now deemed once u do a certain concept, it going to be that forever. and when a group did change, fans throw major tantrum over it, as what happened to itzy and aespa spicy. snsd released the polar opposite song (oh! & run devil run) back to back. fans were just vibing with it. its a concept for a reason. thanks to this mindset varieties in a gp are not so common now.
i swear the day illit decided to have the concept changed in the future, ppl would still have something to bitter about. if the issue was not towards any members, it will be about "the change is too sudden and ppl arent use to it" smh

Yunah is actually my bias even when I didn't watch R U NEXT. There was something about her that made me really drawn to her. I wouldn't have guessed she was a confident person because ILLIT did not make her look that way at all; i love the fact that she wants to stay positive in her work and would like to keep that energy for her team. I am seriously rooting for her!
Even though Illits cutesy concept may not be exactly perfect for her, she still grabs my attention! She looks like the cool chill senpai we see in animes 😂❤ She absolutely slayed the hime cut ~
That ponytail girl is definitely a fucking legend. That performance still has me on a chokehold. She continuously proves that she ain't just caged in the strong concept because her attention performance was also really amazing. I gotta agree with the editing on r u next. The first episode, I was honestly pro Yunah, but their narrating direction did indeed made me lowkey irked on Yunah cause they made her look selfish. But damn! Thank goodness I snapped out of it and still continued to root for my girl! She's honestly breathtakingly gorgeous, I thought she is being groomed by Hybe as the next KPOP IT girl. Only to favour the dozen trainee #uncannvalley.

Yunah was my 1 pick too.. i wanted the final group to have stronger concept but after they announced wonhee and iroha as members i thought "oh it will be a cute concept" and wished yunah won't debut as she doesn't suit cute concept (i know she's great at anything she do but it's just my opinion) like i really thought she won't debut lol but i really wished the best for her and i'm happy she made her dream come true it's just that i think i wanted to see more of her.

Hi, I liked your video, it’s well done. I didn’t watch R U Next a whole lot, but I’ve watched Illit performances and Yunah was the first member that stood out to me. I think Yunah fits Illit’s concept and to me each member fits illit in their own unique way (if that makes sense). Though, I can also see Yunah fitting a dark or girl crush concept. The group has a lot of potential, wishing them the best!

I honestly think they will recover if they change concept for their first comeback and also change the structure by appointing a main music producer from Belift's production team. Enhypen has Wonderkid who is mentor to Cashcow. And we know Cashcow produced Desperate for R U Next.
Illit can change concept for each comeback, but they can't change the key theme due to upcoming Summer Moon. Just like Enhypen can't change their vampire theme due to Dark Moon. TXT can't change their youth theme due to Star Seekers. BTS can't change their time travel theme due to their webtoon.
This is probably why Le Sserafim dropped Crimson Heart to not be locked or linked to it with their songs. GFriend was stuck with witch theme when BigHit acquired Source Music in 2019.
But more importantly, songs need to fit their vocal range so they can give us a good live show. Hybe needs to prioritize hype over studio recording Tiktok songs.

As someone who was there for the entire run of R U Next, I can confirm Yunah was the main character of the first few episodes. Everyone was talking about her after bad girl good girl, and she stirred up quite a controversy with her “selfish” attitude. She was my 2nd pick since the very first episode, but slowly she faded more and more into the background, her image changed a lot, and it seemed like hybe had changed their minds about Yunah. By the latter half of the show, I was confined that if it was between Jeemin and Yunah for the final spot in the group, it was going to be Jeemin. And then it actually came down to Jeemin vs. Yunah for the final spot of the group, and I was shocked to hear Yunah!! I wasn’t as shocked as I was when Moka was announced, but I was still floored. I thought this meant I’ll-It was going for a mature concept then, since it didn’t make sense adding Youngstown and Yunah to a cutesy group. But I guess Hybe changed their concept to revolve around other members, and Yunah didn’t really fit with that concept.
Totally agree with your sentiment. I see Yunah having a big role to play in driving Illit forward as the other members are not so forward thinking.

i think it was rigged this way because the debut concept was always going to be "dreamy" or "cute" but yunah has the versatility to give them an out when the y2k era dies. if you look back at the performances, moka also has this versatility despite pulling off the cute concept very well. i think hype sees the y2k craze phasing out soon and want versatile idols like you see in massive groups like twice or red velvet who can pull off very different concepts as the tastes of the public rapidly change
Yk who she reminds me of? Mijoo! Mijoo is extremely popular on variety shows and people love her confident and honest personality so maybe Yunah could try a similar route and then she might be eventually recognized as an it girl for her talent, visuals, and personality!

I didnt even watch runext (i kept up with it on TikTok) and right when i first saw her I knew she would be the next big thing and knew right there and then she’ll debut. Now knowing that she’s one of the least liked members is just so shocking.

I didn't watch this show , but the only two performances I did watch (multiple times even) were bad girl good girl and bad boy. This girl was my fav, when illit debuted I remembered her and I was like sure she made it. I didn't know this was actually her journey through the show. This is kinda remind me of boys planet Park gunwook, he was one of the most famous and talented contestants at first but also was hated on later because of his confidence (really don't get korean viewers) to the point he also almost didnt make it.
Anyway I really wish her the best... for someone who is kinda new to illit , I actually thought she did really well with the magnetic concept so I don't get comments about this

i felt that at the end of the show even the little things yunah did had that shady editing,they used that dramatic sounds, tense background music, cut to the face of other girls looking at her like “😐” as they weren’t enjoying her personality anymore

And aside from this single episode nothing else pops up in my mind when ithink they portrayed yunah bad, the opposite imo actually for example they showed her hyping up the group at the aim high performance that was one of the last performances and she was super sweet and everyone had fun with her.

I feel like the producers chose the best lineup they could in order to suit a cute concept (except that I feel like Himena could have also suited the cute concept very well). But, at the same time, I feel like HYBE missed out on an opportunity to go for a fierce or girl crush concept (which would have suited the majority of R U Next contestants better than the cutesy concept).
what i can say is, the way to sing yuna and moka's part, similarly to the audio, is to whisper the lyrics.
The problem is that the microphone can't easily pick up a whisper that's why they try to do it louder, while at the same time, trying to make it sound the same as the audio,
you can even notice the way they try to change the way they sing just to match it while singing it louder in every encore performance.
kpop fans are just too quick to judge them and tell that they can't sing without even investigating or observing what's really the problem.
Yep...Yunah is my bias from day one and I wanted her to debut especially when she made Jungwon & Heeseung laugh so much when she performed drunk-dazed floor choreography. She is not pretentious. She is very natural. She will be very popular if Belift will give them a good comeback like the Bad Girl, Good Girl concept.

I genuinely feel like the whole concept of illit is centered around wonhee (not a shade to her )because almost everyone of them can be fitting of other aesthetic such as the cool girl girl crush concept however if it’s wonhee she would look very out of place.I do hope that their company finds a way to somehow match the 2000s vibe and the coquette dollish vibe.And maybe experiment more on their vocals .

As someone who watched r u next, Yunah was one of the most loved contestants because she was a really great contender. I feel sad seeing her getting hated just because she doesn't fit Illit's concept and that she really didn't shine on her debut like how she shined on the show.
