Gothic Revival Style Church Abandoned in Detroit, Michigan

  • Today, we are exploring this abandoned Gothic style church in Detroit opened in 1911 and closed in 2005. The church went abandoned after the reverend passed away. It was then locked up in legal battles over the reverend's estate. Its organ pipes were stolen and scrapped in the fall of 2009. A different church bought this one with plans to renovate and restore it. There was fresh wood inside the church. Some of the catwalk and ceiling has already been restored but much more work is required for this place to be saved.

Why do people feel the need to tag everything and destroy. We are such a sad society. This is a beautiful place

Yeah.. the things you find, especially when left as they were is the best part of urbex. Recently found my way into a local hospital, then a week later found someone else kicked in the front door, broke windows and threw the xrays across the room. This is why I find I would rather deal with tight security, because usually the place is a much better explore. Enemy of my enemy is my friend I suppose

@hansmueller3029 No, it is not. There are so many places that allow you to do stuff there. But destroying a building with history is not part of "our nature"

I grew up in Detroit and saw many decommissioned and abandoned churches. The "history" we're so often crowing about wasn't the same history that the folks in the neighborhood experienced. It's a shame when a parish church becomes a "worship club" with larger locks on the doors than hearts of the people inside.

Thanks for preserving this unique piece of heritage at least visually, it is so sad when such architectural and religious beauty is lost forever for posterity ...

Unbelievable architecture. This is one of the most elaborate, classic structures I have seen in some time. Unfortunately, there has been a lot of decay in this building. But I really hope that someone will fight to save this beautiful church. I would really love to visit Detroit and see Woodward Avenue Presbyterian Church, up close and in person.

The dome itself would be a ideal, loft, home
I love gothic catholic church design. Perhaps, one day, i will own one. And covert it into artist retreat. Home/ business combo.

Thank you for the the explore. Be safe

It does have a lot of damage, but I think that every one that sees this, understands how beautiful it is. I hope they feel how special it's is and want to protect and save it. Im glad you were able to show this to the homebound, or I would never have seen it. THANK YOU! 🕊️🎄🕊️

Over 110 years old. Amazing history. Feels like someones tried to begin restoring parts of it after the 2005 closure before maybe the money ran out or they gave up. Amazing footage.

Restore it for what purpose? Changing demographics and population shifts have occurred and will never return to the state that can support such a huge, once glorious church. This phenomenon is happening all over our country at an alarming rate. We who are old enough can only appreciate that which one was.

@@jrzzrj Good question. Some of these old places get restored but used for a different purpose as not as many go to Church and the church no longer has the power it once had. And youre right about this country. So many abandoned and boarded up fenced of places. The Governments of recent times have allowed the country to go to ruin. And I do agree the Britain of the past was a better place by far.

Martin Luther King visited several times so you can only imagine who else was here. How could rich black billionaires just sit back and watch their history be destroyed?✝✝💸💸✝✝💸💸There are Detroit heroes who have boarded up abandoned buildings, lived in them to protect them with guns for years, now their buildings are restored and occupied.🤑🤑💲💲

Omg. Unreal. The historic value. The beauty. It should be preserved. 😪
Countries in Europe have churches which are 800 years old. Surely WE can preserve OUR history.
It may be another religion, but its part of that mosiac of North American, the melting pot.
Further North, we're realising the VALUE of full would structures and trying to preserve them. PLEASE realise what is being LOST without preversation on this case.
