I'm from Columbus, Georgia the nextdoor neighbor to Phenix City,Alabama. Never heard of this beautiful park. Alabama, beautiful state with great people. Good neighbors.
Thank you for sharing Dismals with the world. I live about 55 miles South of Dismals and have visited it quite a few times. At times through the years, Dismals has struggled to stay open due to various reasons. It can really be called a hidden gem, at this time there isn’t even a sign on the major highway that you turn off of to go to Dismals. That’s been the main problem through the years with owners just not having enough cash to do heavy advertising. I am glad to see that it has been updated greatly since the last time I was there. There wasn’t a restaurant or gift shop the last time I was there. I don’t know about now, but the water that created the waterfall at the beginning of the video was a wide stream close to the path that you walk down to the gift store. It was wide and deep enough that swimming was allowed in it. I will say that if you have weak ankles of knees, the path can be rough. You also have to watch your step for roots and rocks. After you have walked the trail, the steps coming back up is a breath grabber. Dismals is a great lil place.
It's Beautiful! The atmosphere is loaded with negative ions, perfect for a balanced health! I love to listen to you sharing;; NOT that repetitive music!
Dismals Canyon is a sandstone gorge near Phil Campbell in Franklin County, Alabama. It was declared a National Natural Landmark in May 1974. Dismals Canyon is one of only a few places where insects called dismalites can be found. The larval forms of these flies emit a bright blue-green light to attract food and mates. They cover the canyon wall.
I loved the video, though I do agree the music takes attention away from the video story, (I did appreciated the narrative!) Keep up the good work,I hope you enjoy it, because it is very enjoyable to watch.
I live in Alabama and didn't know about this place. Unfortunately being a senior citizen, this would be too strenuous for me. I have enjoyed watching it from your vantage point of view.
Hey I’ve been there for a night tour of the glow worms and couldn’t see this beauty. This place is in the middle of nowhere, phone reception was not happening except my friend’s AT&T phone. Thanks for posting this gorgeous footage.
7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!
We came at a time the worms were not visible. Peak visibility is spring and fall (night time) ….we went in the middle of summer early morning …but I tried my best to capture the beautiful canyon aside from the amazing glow worms obviously lol
Thanks for sharing. I live in Lower Alabama and have always wanted to go visit the canyon but unable to go. This video is as if I was there with you. I enjoyed it. Thank you
Nice video. Looks like a place I’d like to visit. I hadn’t heard of it. Glad to see your son hiking and learning about the outdoors. You might consider some different music background. It seemed too repetitive. Overall, a winning video!
Great video! We live in Lincoln and been wanting to go! Fun fact! I knew this, but copied it from their website so I hope you guys were there after dark. "Past twilight the canyon lights up with tiny bioluminescent creatures we call Dismalites. These "glowworms" require a select habitat to survive and are unique to only a few places on Earth. They are “close cousins” of the rare glowworms found in Australia and New Zealand."
So this was stripped bare of the artifacts and made into a tourist destination. Can you imagine how gorgeous it was 500 years ago before people from everywhere, started coming through ?
Thanks man. Every video about this place is usually talking about the glow worms but we went at a time when they were not visible so I couldn’t show them and I wanted to highlight the natural beauty of this place, even without the incredible dismalites
I couldn’t imagine that either. I couldn’t imagine think that a 10-minute video encapsulates every moment experienced on this eight-hour hike. The real question is what’s your body weight, body mass, and your exercise frequency and regimen?
@@toofar2drive722😂. Seems like it has already been a secret for too long. Great video. I didn’t notice the music but I was hoping to see glow worms. Now you’ve gotta go back 😊
Just wondered why the only person in your video who seemed to have a good time was you., your wife, and child neither one smiled, nor once. There was no looking around at the beauty around. Everyone seemed to be in a big hurry and not interested in the hike at all. Only exception was when the child was walking in the water, but even then he did not amule.
Perhaps, they are busy retracing their steps of this beautiful site for our benefit. In others words, this is a reboot for the family and videographer so that we too can enjoy this place. Thanks for your sacrifice dear family. Thanks! I live in Alabama, camp in Alabama, chase waterfalls on two continents and have never been made aware of this lovely place until today! Wow!!! Thanks!
I always enjoy myself on our hiking adventures. Otherwise, I would not do it. Besides my expression is mostly wide-eyed alertness keenly surveilling each step for serpents. That face doesn’t look like a fun-time either. 😆

Yeah, not a bad drive.

Aw man, I wish I knew what when we were there. I would have found nerdy way to acknowledge the life-giving negativity. 😂

Absolutely love this video! The only thing is the music is irritating and made me extremely anxious. We had to mute it for most of the video.

I love it. I'm from Alabama and I've never heard of Dismal Canyon until today. Great video. Thank you for sharing. God bless you 🙏❤ 😊
It was so beautiful I hope you check it out
Ditto! And my family travels near and far in pursuit of nature, hikes & WATERFALLS. What a hidden and unknown gem, until today. Thanks!
And home to glow worms :-) only 1 of the 2 places they have ever been found
Wow that is beautiful 😍 Thanks for sharing this place! Would ❤ to visit. Just curious have you visited Rock city? I want to go see it also.
Great job. Lovely family.
I live in Central Alabama. I have heard of Dismal Canyon, but have never been there. I hope to make it some day. Thank you for the video!

Thank you for a great video.......nature at its best.
I appreciate that
I appreciate that man
7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!
You should have stayed until it was dark and seen the dismalites. Glowing worms the canyon is known for, that make the canyon walls look like stars.
We came at a time the worms were not visible. Peak visibility is spring and fall (night time) ….we went in the middle of summer early morning …but I tried my best to capture the beautiful canyon aside from the amazing glow worms obviously lol
LOVE the Dismals. It's so c ool on hot days.
Haven’t been there in years. Need to take a trip
Loved going with you guys through the trails. I didn't like the music either.
If you liked hiking around these boulders I'd also suggest horse pens 40 and Cherokee village
Or Moss Rock if you're in Birmingham
Thanks man I’ll check that out
Cool thanks bro
Great video. Getting youth out into nature is the best thing that you can do for them.
Thanks Tim. Yea I agree man, I’m trying to keep my kids outside in nature as much as possible
Not for the
faint hearted!
Thanks for the tour 🌿🌿🌿
Glad you liked it, thanks for watching
ALABAMA IS AWESOME!!!
Beautiful, my home state , never heard of it . Thanks for sharing .
Cool, I’m glad you liked it and hopefully you can enjoy it one day. It was a very easy trail
Looks amazing! Such a beautiful place ❤
Amazing! I have been to Alabama several times but never heard of this place. Thank you for sharing your expedition!
Thank you I’m glad you like it. Look into Stephen’s Gap also
Never heard of it. Born and raised in 'Bama. I'll have to google it. The boulders remind me of Horse Pens 40.
Fantastic video, I felt like I was there with you.
Thank you so much and I’m glad you enjoyed
Thanks for sharing. I live in Lower Alabama and have always wanted to go visit the canyon but unable to go. This video is as if I was there with you. I enjoyed it. Thank you
Thanks man this made my day. Glad you enjoyed the video
Thank you for sharing! I'm hoping to visit this in May!
You’re welcome. Let us know about your experience. We’d love to hear all about it.
Nice to see y'all! This place is is beautiful and magical in away
Thank you!!
I second that sentiment. ❤
Nice looking place and good looking family.
Thank you❤️

This is sick bro 🔥
Great video! We live in Lincoln and been wanting to go!

Hence the name Dismals Canyon = Dismalites :)
As of 6/2024 their website says the place is closed due to damage from an ice storm. It’s a privately owned park w/ an admission fee.
What ice storm?? That don't sound possible....
You need to check out Walls of Jerusalem, in Alabama, and Tennessee at the line
Thanks man, definitely want to check that out, sounds dope
The music is nerve racking
Mmm….doesn’t match the beautiful scenery at all, which is a pity.
Beautiful, looks kind of similar to the slot canyons in the southwest except there it is desert.
That’s what I thought.!! Except it’s covered in the green moss like stuff ……We went to Utah a few weeks after Alabama
I am from Tennessee and I have not heard of it either. I am going to have to visit!
New subscriber here man! My wife and I are thinking of going in October, it looked really cool!
Aw man that’s awesome.! I’m glad I showed you something that made you want to try it out yourself
Did you and your wife get to experience this slice of land before time?
The music is PAINFUL!! Great place!
Gorgeous ❤❤❤❤
Today, July 1, 2024, their website says they are temporarily closed😮😢
Great. Thsnks
Im 8n the AL line and checked on the cabin rates...WOW but its also saying closed??
Yes, we went last year. It was damaged by an ice storm.
It's closed while they clean up from a terrible ice storm in January.
Cane Creek nature preserve is equally as breathtaking as Dismals. Its located in Cherokee AL, not too far north of Dismals
So this was stripped bare of the artifacts and made into a tourist destination. Can you imagine how gorgeous it was 500 years ago before people from everywhere, started coming through ?
I can only imagine❤️
Why havent you mentioned thr dismalites in the cave only one of 5 caves globally with glow worms . Im a local good video but left out a good bit.
Thanks man. Every video about this place is usually talking about the glow worms but we went at a time when they were not visible so I couldn’t show them and I wanted to highlight the natural beauty of this place, even without the incredible dismalites
Thought I knew all of Alabama but, never saw this Kool place. Great video but hated the obnoxious music..
In What county in Alabama is this?
Glow worms were not mentioned
We went at a time they were not visible, so I did my best to show the beauty if the canyon aside from the glow worms
Turn the music off!
Loved the video but the music is ruining the time. That electronic music on a three second loop is horrible.
Yeah, he's gotta lose that music.
Would have been much better with the natural sounds of the scenery and not the stupid short and irritating background loop.
First one to get the notification
Ok den i see he gotz him one yea ok right right right
I can't imagine driving 7 hours and just walking with my head down the whole time. Super cheesy video end the music killed it
I couldn’t imagine that either. I couldn’t imagine think that a 10-minute video encapsulates every moment experienced on this eight-hour hike.
The real question is what’s your body weight, body mass, and your exercise frequency and regimen?
Shhhhh. We are trying to keep it a secret….
lol sorrrryyyyyyy
Tell him! LOL
@@toofar2drive722😂. Seems like it has already been a secret for too long. Great video. I didn’t notice the music but I was hoping to see glow worms. Now you’ve gotta go back 😊
Turn off that awful music!!
The music is awful. The tempo is agitating. The visuals are excellent. Re-post with soothing music & you’ll have a winner.
Concur, its like being put on hold. Real buzz-kill for this beautiful landscape. Fortunately, i have a mute button.
BAD MUSIC,AWFUL, DISTRACTING.GOOD VIDEO.
The music ruins the video.z

I like this video, so I'm subscribing. 🙂
It's beautiful but overpriced.
We did the self-guided tour for FREEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! 😆
