    Well, well, well... It's about time I'd say! Some thought this day would never come, but here we are mid-2015, and it's finally been accomplished!! MASSIVE CREDIT to Tyler Kehne who theorized the completely insane stragtegy you see here and TASed from 1:33 to 1:55, as well as wrote the following explanation:
    The ability to enter the moat door underwater comes from a glitch that has long been known, but poorly understood.       9Redfly I was just stating a fact to people wondering. More speed is easily possible (even infinite speed), but our intention wasn't to max the elevator BLJ speed; it was to get a very, VERY specific number, which no one will ever be able to do non-TAS.

    Could you elaborate on why you need to get 4 PUs away, and not just one? Also, would it be possible to use speeds that are not multiples of 2^18 by not going orthogonal through the PUs (e.g. going diagonal with sqrt(2) times a multiple of 2^18)?

      Scarlas The reason 4 PUs is used as the base unit of sorts is because of quarter-frame movement; Mario actually moves 4 times per frame in equal segments, each 1/4 of the total distance he will move. So a speed of 1 QPU ensures that Mario stays in the same spot each quarter-frame.
      And you're right, there's no requirement for orthogonal movement. It's definitely easiest to stick to the cardinal directions though, and since we weren't trying to optimize speed here, that's what we did.

    in the ds version you can go under the moat and enter the door from the back, so would you be able to BLJ through the castle wall, and enter the door from behind in the n64 version?

      Chance Cossitt yeah but TAS doesnt make everything super easy, you still have to try thousands of times. If you ever watch a TAS run, look in the comments and you will see reloads and a number next to it. That's how many times he/she had to load a save state.

    Just to make sure i have this straight. While in the PU, you walk into where the door would normally be, and that triggers mario to walk through it in the main area? I'm still confused on this.

    So, I have a question. We know we can clip through that second key door, and to load the map after that we have to open it. As such, my question is, would there be any possible way to open the door without the key while BLJing? Or even a way to trick the game into thinking you have that key when you don't?

    Okay, I read the description thing, and if you did mention this and I missed something, I'm sorry in advance. What I wanna know is how do you analyze where Mario is in these PUs? Do you have some sort of overhead map set up with your TAS equipment so you know where he is or what?

    I understand the majority of the description from the pastebin. However, the talk of the PUs when it comes to the moat is a little bit confusing. What I'm getting from this is that the PU that Mario is in has no water in the moat. Since there's no water, he can run around on the ground that would normally be covered by water. However, the description says that the door in the PU isn't loaded. So what I assume from the next few sentences in the description is: In order to enter the door from a PU where there is no water and yet no door, Mario has to run into the door. This makes the game aware that there should be a door (and by extension, water) there (at least, in the real universe). After this, the water takes 1 frame longer than the door to load, and in that 1 frame Mario can open and go through the door. He cannot, however, do this by flying in the PU and hitting/landing in front of the door because doing so means he misses his 1 frame of opportunity to enter the door due to taking 3 frames to land, so the only way for Mario to be able to enter the door is by running into it, in a PU. Am I understanding this correctly?

    sonicpacker Tyler Kehne Speaking of the dust frames from the jump, the dive recover doesn't have dust frames. Even though I tried with multiple vertical speed values, I cannot seem to even "land". whatever my speed is, I seem to be touching the ground, while still in the falling state for one frame, directly afterwards the water activates. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?
    But then again, the normal VS is limited to -75, and there appears to be no way to decrease it more during the dive recover.

      SuperWeegeeX i guess that, like in the SM64DS (as I remember) the second bowser can't be skipped, because the key door is a loading point and you can't get into the second floor except of the key door

      Sirgebet I've seen a TAS of SM64DS which skip the 2 first Bowsers. I guess that unlike the original SM64, the key doors AREN'T loading points and so you can clip inside walls to get to the 2nd floor warp.

    You've probably tried this, but I had an idea.
    I assume that entering the Vanishing Cap level with the Wing Cap works, because you're too fast for the game to recognize that you're in the water before you pass the loading trigger. If that's true, have you tried using the Wing Cap to directly shoot Mario at the door from above?

    I still don't know how you navigated mario (1.In invisible universe 2.With camera stopped in normal universe) to moat door,was it just pure luck? Or is it possible to know where you land after BLJ's

    I read the pastebin. If the door (and its cutscene activation trigger) is not in the PU's, then how do you get out of the PU?
