Not sure if it was mentioned, but the distilled water comes with the ink because it says to not use tap water, minerals found in regular water can interact with the carbon in the ink when cleaning the pens.
Great review! I am a big fan of black inks and own several. I have ended up using and loving Pilot’s Iroshizuku Take-Sumi almost exclusively. It is wet and flows well even in pens with issues. But now after your review I am forced to try this new ink from Platinum. My only concern will be the possible lack of sheen after drying. I hope I will love it… Thanx!
You could always try a sample. Though from a “color” perspective there’s not a lot to inspect: it’s just a super dark black. I don’t treat it differently than I treat any other pigmented ink - I don’t use distilled water, I just use my regular tap water, but YMMV.
Super. I have tried Platinum Carbon Black (liked it for the sheen). I have lots of Iroshizuku Take-sumi on hand . . . . I suspect several years' supply. I have the DeAtramentis Archival Black for waterproof ink. But, for a black hole black, this Chou kuro could be the one! Thanks.
The pronunciation is more like “ow” as in show (prolonging the o). I haven’t tried this ink but imagine the instructions and cleaner and extra converter are because of the special nature of the ink. Happy writing
It comes out a bit wet for me, so it takes a little bit longer to dry than some other inks, but I wouldn't categorize it as excessively slow drying. Sorry, it's not something I typically test for so I'm pretty useless here
That's interesting, I wouldn't have expected a hard start, given how much flow the ink had on the dip nib. I didn't end up inking a pen with this yet since I don't often use black ink. I'll put some in a pen this morning and see what my results are and get back to you.
Ok, I've put some Chou Kuro in my TWSBI Swipe (M nib) that I know is a decent writer. Immediately after the fill it's writing fine on Kokuyo Campus paper, but I'll give it a few hours here on my desk and see what happens. What pens/nibs were giving you trouble?
@@pensinfocus thank you! I have it in a Platinum Preppy 0.5 and a Jinhao 100 that I put a TWSBI 1.1 stub nib in. Maybe I'll try to find a super wet writer for it, too. I think these are fairly wet but maybe there's another.
I let the ink sit in the Swipe all workday and tried it just now. It wrote without a problem. And when I say without a problem I really mean it, I just picked it up and wrote a whole sentence and every letter was exactly as expected.
Take a look at my followup video where I clean this ink out of a pen with just plain tap water. It comes out fine. Like any other pigmented ink or shimmer ink, I wouldn't recommend it on a vintage pen or a pen that is difficult to fully clean out, but in my quick testing I didn't see anything scary about it.

I got this ink a couple of days ago and it is a beautiful ink. Use it in my Preppys with EF, F and M nibs. Lovely ink. Can absolutely recommend it.

Thank you!
What is the dry time for this ink? Being left handed this is an important feature.

wow what a thorough review. thanks for making this video 🎉💚
I will try this ink. Could you inform me what model is the Faber Castell rollerball pen you used in the testing? Thanks!
It is a Faber-Castell WRITink "Print" White Rollerball Pen
@@pensinfocus Thank You.
Thank you! Are you having hard starts with yours? I'm having hard starts in both my pens inked with it 😢

@@pensinfocus thank you for testing and reporting back! I'll try some other pens 🙂
I have a feeling many pens will die after drinking this ink.
