Cool. Was thinking about making a cooler cover with them, and wrapping it with thin neoprene. Seems to be the best insulation material I can find. Though I'm open to suggestions.
I think Styrofoam has a higher R-value, (and is less expensive, lighter weight, easier to cut.) the real benefit here is the heat resistance, which you hopefully shouldn't need for a cooler. If you want the flexibility I'd also suggest considering fiberglass batt. [or stone wool which has some of the same heat/fire resistance and material flexibility]
Very useful video - thank you. How compressible is this material? I'm installing an inset stove but have a stove slightly smaller than the opening so I need to infill it with a material like this. Trying to work out what thickness I should go with.
It's less compressible than fiberglass bat, but more compressible than EVA foam mats. This 1" thick mat would probably compress down to 3/4" thick but no more. I believe you can buy them in different thicknesses so you might get a thinner mat so you can layer the right number of layers to get very close to the size you need.
