I like how they reimagined the themes from OG Tokaido into a 2P experience, instead of just reworking the mechanism! Thanks for the preview, DiceTower squad
@@animeartest (I am not a backer) Funforge currently has 2 undelivered projects: Monumental expansion/reprint and Namiji (Tokaido sequel). Both were halted because Funforge ran out of funds. Namiji's delivery was halted in the middle of the fulfillment, so some people recieved it and some didn't - so essentially they are sitting in the fulfillment warehouse until they can pay their fees. Monumental is almost at the fulfillment stage, but was halted before it started. They currently do not have an ETA about when these projects will be fulfilled while they desperately try to raise capital to pay their outstanding fees. Which also means that some copies of Namiji have hit retail already. I think they just partnered with Asmodee to distribute their products for retail, while their Kickstarter Backers sit in limbo waiting for any announcements of when they will recieve their game. Funforge has announced they will no longer make crowdfunding campaigns because it's no longer profitable.
They screwed a bunch of us over with their last Kickstarter . They didn’t fulfill it all and it’s just sitting in a warehouse since they ran out of money. It’s been at the warehouse since January
Straight to retail. Says so on some text at the beginning of the video. Is this common to have paid previews for a game going to retail? It sorta seems like trying to get around reviews. Since it won’t be years before the game hits the market and i don’t suppose reviewers would be incentivized to review something they previewed so recently
Glad to see Funforge has enough money to pay previewers like Rahdo and DT, but not enough to ship games to SO MANY people who gave them money. A little surprised Dice Tower was ok with this, really surprised Rahdo was with his vocality.
@@kur1su74 this was right after they informed KS backers of Namiji, that they didn’t have enough money to ship games to them. Same company, same timing - very shady business practices.
I'm a little disappointed that DT reviewed this - even tho it was a paid review. FunForge screwed over 3000+ backers on Namiji alone and 4203 backers on the Monumental reprint campaign. That's over 7000 backers and DT is still considering reviewing their games. Be Better DT. The money paid for this review is nothing compared the the PR of being okay to promote (as that's what a PAID PROMOTION is) a company that screwed over 7000 people in the hobby.
That's surprising to hear, I love the game. It's super cute throat while balancing different number of player aspects. Even the old two player variant of placing a third, no scoring meeple on the board was a strategic work around. Playing tokaido with 4 players is probably the best amount of people, but sometimes the only thing that really kills it is analysis paralysis I'd you have hardcore gamers playing with you. Otherwise it's a relatively quick game for the amount of players or supports overall. I bring it to every board game night with friends and it's always been a win.
@@EfrainRiveraJunior just out of curiosity, what negative aspects have you heard? I definitely suggest trying to play, even the free app game version of it is super fun and quick.
@@animeartest - I learned that it's on BGA. I've never used BGA, but now I will. Things that I heard were that the game is beyond boring, and that all plays are as if driving on cruise control. I'm a fan of the theme, so who knows. I might like it.
@@EfrainRiveraJunior the BGA version feels a little stilted and I suggest the app or physical boardgame if at all possible. BGA will get the job done but overall it's the least pleasant of the three options
I am always impressed by Mark's reviews. They always make me want to try a game at least once even if it is not the type that I enjoy.

I would be more interested if it wasn't Funforge developing this.
Die is singular, dice is plural.
I have to assume this is going straight to retail. There is no way this will fund on KS given their current situation.
What situation are you referring to?

It’s a paid preview. Not paid review.
I've seen so many horrible Tokaido reviews. I hope the changes fix the negative issues because the game looks mega cool.

This looks a lot better than the original tokaido in my opinion
If this takes place in Shikoku, the name Tokaido Duo makes zero sense.
