Western Wanderer Route 6: The Sawtooths (Idaho Centennial Trail)

  • After the intensity of Central Idaho, it was nice to be able to hike on some nice trails. That actually existed. And had blazes. What a change!
Unfortunately, the weather also picked this moment to send a tropical storm our way (unbeknownst to me). It was rather damp there for a while. But we survived and enjoyed the incredible views before descending to the Columbia Plateau.
As a note, these videos are a ways behind where we are actually at due to the remote nature of this route. Most of the towns we are traveling through are small (poor WiFi/cell service) and far apart. I’ll do my best to keep things continuous, but there might be weeks where I miss an upload due to technical difficulties, just fyi.
Also note: Prima and Skittles are wise to many of my techniques at this point. If they lag behind in shots it’s likely because they know I’m filming then and think it’s dumb. Sometimes Prima does get sore feet, and we then take time off, but usually it’s just then being too smart.

RIP pair of shoes. You served well !
The weather forecast is unpredictable sometimes :) but the water was needed after so many fires and you had time to cuddle with Prima and Skittles.
    As always nice scenes.

How did you like "All Good People Here"? I listen to the Morbid podcast but I've heard Ashley and her co host's books aren't that great lol 😅 But I'm totally going to read them someday.

I’m not too picky about most books. I try to read a variety of genres and know that a lot of those types of books are not as deep, but are just fun, fast reads to change the pace a bit. It was a quick read and certainly a thriller, I stayed up to finish it!

So many of the TH-cam television stations about hikers will do an episode from their house in the suburbs reviewing gear or something, and they have a dog sitting next to them and we are like, "Wait...what?...you have a dog that I have NOT seen in any of your hiking motion pitchers?!?! ...YOU on the other hand...well you get it.

I’ve always wondered what the point of having a dog is if you’re going to be gone traveling all the time. Not just hikers, lots of people used to leave their dogs at the kennel where I worked for the whole summer or majority of the week for day care then over the weekends.

As usual my dearest trail girl ☺️ it's been a stellar comp❤ of U🎉 the " kids " and beautiful ' site n sound heart swelling sensory tickling !!!! 🙃😀👍🏽👍🏽.this route is totally new to me so it's VERY enjoyable 😃👍🏽😎.. I hope cover " sections " of it in the near ( probably not TO near future )!!!!
And I will replay the parts of your videos that pertain to that section... Sounds silly huh ?. Tis section/s look gorge and more
" do able " than last but IT was awesome based on friend info/pics. But he did far more filming because he doesn't have dogs to worry about he's never on a time crunch.
And the centennial trail was something that he really felt strongly about memorializing it !!. Is concerned about loadouts or that they are fuel or another fire. Which I have truly considered myself especially in parts of work in Idaho Washington State we're a drought is seriously taking place. In fact they're experiencing fires right now. 😮😮. Oops sorry didn't mean to get on Van to the dark side. Speaking of darksides did you enjoy the sacred clowns by Tony hillerman ?
So give " the haunted Mesa "

It was so lovely to have a whole section of well maintained trail, at least by my standards! There are so many possibilities for loops and trips of various lengths in the sawtooths I’d love to go back and see more. Definitely worth a trip if you can swing it.
Definitely have lucked out on rain overall, especially compared to when I hiked the GDT out the AT hikers in Maine this year. Still can be hard with the dogs just because it’s impossible to keep the dry stuff dry if they get wet.
I love Tony Hillerman! I’ve been working my way through his books. Since I live in the Four Corners region of Colorado I love reading about the southwest, even if it’s fiction. I’ll definitely have to check out that book, thanks!

I thought the rock thing was funny because one of my classes had a very important pet rock named Gustavo last year.
      Hope you are well!
