Yes! The more I play the more I discover counterplay and new tech. Obviously Splatoon is the goat game but I hope Foamstars gets some recognition for such a well thought out design!
I've been playing a lot of Foamstars lately and despite what I've said, it's a very fun game with a lot of its own charm! I still prefer Splatoon but I'll definitely continue playing Foamstars. It'll have to wait for a while because Side Order. Look forward to more Foamstars content from you homie🙏🏽❤
Great video! As a splatoon player who doesn't have a playstation nor am I really interested in foamstars at all, I'm happy to see such solid content for the game and I'm glad you made this. Also what you say about being able to change characters/weapons in solo queue before the game is exactly my feelings about Splatoon. Like literally the one thing that I hate most as a charger main is going into solo and being paired with other backlines and suddenly we have no ability to push. Like literally every other competitive shooter game lets you coordinate weapons/characters with your team before the game starts, it's so frustrating! Just give us a minute to change gear/weapons after getting matched Nintendo!

Awesome video! Im glad you released it! Id like to add that im pretty sure you can reload you ammo without the reload button by not shooting for an extended period of time, but it's real slow. I might be wrong about that but im like 80% sure
So i was playing around with slideboard cancelling for jump extension.. Seems like tonix and jet can do it with their shots during charging status. Baristador and rave breaker can do it with their shots/sprays as well which is probably even better than tonix and jet because they can cut their jump at any time and just spray. Then there's agito who can extend the jump via shot cancel but not properly. Agito will still shoot enough to sort of pad his fall but his shot is in no way the same as using his shuriken to extend his jump.
Yeeee good stuff! The movement definitely needs more exploration. I have been getting a lot of value by the speed of engaging on the enemy but need to work on consistency and character specific uses like you mention!
@Reborn_NA 2.01 seems to have nerfed the jump extension. It only works for 3 cycles then you drop hard. I havent tried the full unload for jet either for 2.01. According to the jp poster the charge cancel might still work
@@siekensou77 I haven't been able to make the Jet cancel work since the patch unfortunately. But bubble gems and penny R1 skill is currently broken so there is a chance it gets fixed in a future update.
@Reborn_NA The charge shot cancel is juat for charge shot characters like tonix and jet. 1. Hold charge 2a. Release charge 2b. Hold charge 2c. Slideboard cancel without releasing charge 3. Repeat from 2a. I haven't been able to make it work even before the patch, but the japanese video was created and uploaded just before the 2.01 patch. I think i sent you the video on twitter
Never played Splatoon, was hyped to finally get to play something like Splatoon, immediately became worried when I learned the primary game mode wasn't the same as Splatoon's ink domination mode or whatev it's called... finally played it... I am shocked by how much I love Foamstars. It is fundamentally so different from any other shooter. It's weird because on paper, so many mechanics just seem to come out of left field or even conflict, and then you play it, and it somehow all works. It actually kinda makes it difficult to describe the game's mechanics and what I like about them, because how do you start. How the foamed up mechanic organically fosters teamwork while encouraging aggression? I completely agree Smash the Star is especially well designed. For people who haven't played Foamstars, one of the biggest things about Foamstars is everybody has super powerful walls. You can easily track enemies and allies, and if you're close enough, you can even see their silhouette which communicates hero identity, vector, and facing. This obviously makes flanking very difficult. Thing is... Almost all the attacks and abilities have short range, move slowly, and / or are heavily telegraphed. If you're paying attention and haven't overextended into opposition foam, you can usually avoid getting chilled. But the same goes the other way around so the best way to secure a chill ( they're not called kills ) is to dive an opponent and pointblank spray them down. But these are conflicting mechanics because how do you safely dive an opponent who has walls? Figure it out. It's a tiny bit like chess how the game goes, "Here's all the information you need to succeed; btw, everybody else has the same information. Figure it out." No fog of war is nuts. Crazy fast, crazy chaotic, the better you can process the information overload, the better you'll do. You have to operate under the assumption the opponents know everything you are doing so there's no point in trying to hide and go invisible; so instead, you're always doing something. Observing, anticipating, planning, foaming. Always. There is never downtime. It's possible the game breaks down when all players are communicating and coordinating in organized, competitive play. I can kinda see that happening, but at the same time, I just play solo casual so I wouldn't know; but man, this is the most fun I've had in a competitive shooter in a long time. I easily rate Foamstars over The Finals, Call of Duty, etc.
I love your thoughts on the game and totally agree! So much freedom and flexibility when gameplanning before the match and fighting during the match! They do not get enough credit for how well these mechanics tie together and you point out!

It's hard to describe because every kill in a FPS is technically earned... but in Foamstars, it feels especially true. The opponent can see you coming and even anticipate how you'll approach based on who you are playing so a successful flank feels completely earned. It's not a pure aim contest, you didn't lurk or camp, you genuinely out-maneuvered. A greater percentage of chills feel more hard fought than any other shooter I can think of. It's addictive.

Light vs Dark mode was truly ahead of its time. Also when is Nintendo giving us a console Kid Icarus 😭 I like what Foamstars does by making the "star" the person that has performed the best instead of just the last person to have gone down. Especially in solo queue the matches feel so intense when trying to chill the best performers in the lobby!
Really excited to play with the new character next season! Seem like a super fun support! Definitely could use the game going f2p and PC at some point, we can only hope 🙏
It’s just a shame a lot of people shit talked this game. Before I played it I looked up reviews and there was a lot of hate. I still tried it and immediately loved it. Just gotta get the player count up. Good video bro. Hopefully it gets recommended to people looking into the game.
Appreciate it and yeah I did not expect much from the game at first. But the more you play it, it gets better and better! Fortunately I didn't have too much trouble finding matches in the ranked playlist throughout the season so hopefully that is a sign that some people want to keep grinding! 🙏
Im hearing you can slideboard cancel Jet's shot to unload everything at once. The guy claims tonix and agito cannot make use of it somehow.. he says tested all characters. I wonder if you can verify.
Saw ads for this game for ages, and brushed them off since they annoyed me. Downloaded the game recently off of a whim and I’ve gotta say I enjoy the charm it has. The only negativity I have towards f2p games like this are wondering whether they’ll be active in a year or so, so it makes me hesitant to dedicate time to it, as opposed to a tried and true series like splatoon. That being said I’ll be trying it more over this weekend since it is pretty fun. Hope the devs support it in the long run and give people a good reason to stick to it.
Totally agree!! Fortunately they have weekend events and monthly updates. They have also been very quick to respond to some network issues and buffing weaker characters which I appreciate. The game is so much fun, I hope they get more time to add maps/modes/characters as well as PvE content. PvE is super underrated but they need to pack it with more content!
Wanna send thanks for not blindly hating this game. It's fun. But it feels like its one of those games that not many gave it a chance and hated it without even playing it. I dint jnow why people are on the hating campaign on this game. Hope it has legs enough to keep going. It's mad fun.
I enjoyed the video and this is not a critique of it Idk why people are pitting these games up against each other when they are for separate systems and not everybody has enough money or interest when it comes to owning both a switch and a playstation If Splatoon or foamstars were playable on the same systems then i would understand, but why can't playstation players have a game that is similar?
Thank you! I think this is the first serious attempt at leveraging the turf based mechanics for a shooter since Splatoon. I (and most of my audience) come from Splatoon which makes the comparisons a little more familiar when discussing the game. I totally agree with you that both games can exist in harmony, especially since Foamstars does a lot to separate itself as a shooter. I've been having a blast with both!!
I'm interested in who you feel is useless and strong atm. The meta game is still developing and I see legit reasons to use and mix/match the whole cast. The MelT buffs during beta were needed And the Jet buffs are also appreciated. I initially thought Soa was broken but the more I play, the more counters there are to her and her ult.
I agree, you are not alone in this sentiment and they really need more accessibility options so the foam isn't quite as sharp and bright. I might try and mess with capture card settings for videos in the future!
It's like the only people reviewing this are splatoon players lol I just want to see what someone with a fresh take has to say about the game. Most reviews are just "it's not splatoon so it sucks!" so thanks for not being so biased in your review, very well done. I've only played a tiny bit of splatoon on wii u and I enjoyed it, but based on what you say about the differences, I think I might actually like foamstars more. I always prefer higher ttk shooters over low ttk, and I love hero shooters. I'm a long time overwatch player, some foamstars might feel somewhat familiar to me, even the screen clutter!
Foamstars fighting and combat feels so much more engaging and definitely super close to an Overwatch feel! As they add more modes and characters, I think the game will be in a really good spot. Just hope we are able to build a strong enough community to hold out until everything releases! I will definitely be trying to grind for #1 in ranked next season haha

Yeah I don't think they gave enough time for that to cook. They even mentioned in interviews to not have super high expectations for the single player and story stuff. It almost feels like things would have been better received if they skipped it altogether 💀 I can appreciate it from the absurdity of it all but it definitely feels tacked on and deserving of criticism.

I definitely think they can do a better job of presenting the game in some parts. The first impressions of the game were pretty rough, even as someone with no known visual impairments.

the pastel colors look nice on paper but in game it's so bright! overkill. the game seems fun but my eyes cannot take it...
