  • A short video on the basics of Chinese brush painting including how to hold a brush, how to create Bamboo, and some troubleshooting. For Middle school-High School students. I was inspired by a number of you tube videos to create my own. I use this for a Chinese Brush Painting unit for studio Art grades 9-12.

    I took Chinese brush painting classes for a couple of years and the first thing I learned was not to go back and paint over what you already have created. You just let it be. It is a part of the art. Just saying. :)

    I am a Chinese and an artist, graduated from the master's studio art, a good beginning is very important, same as the foundation of the building, a lot of mistakes in this video of Chinese Brush painting techniques. You can draw for yourself, but not for education, especially students of Studio Art grades 9-12.

    Thank you for the good information. It might help if when doing and demonstrating what NOT to do, you had a notation in the video as such... a big red X or something like that.

    If I am painting using, say, 3 different colours, does each colour need its own ink stone?

    Is there anything you could substitute instead of the ink since I have none?

    • @MsLivoti
      @MsLivoti  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you could try this technique with a water based material- like watercolor or acrylic paint that's thinned down with water, or you could try using coffee or tea if you want to be more experimental.

      Thank you, I disregard the negative remarks because this is intended only to teach my 9th grade students some basics about making brush strokes using a medium that's entirely new to them. This video was also from when I first started teaching this unit as part of my curriculum. Hopefully will update it soon! Thanks!

      It translates to "fur pencil" directly, or just an approximate translation of "brush"

    I was in Chinese brush painting classes and I remember hating it as a kid because when I was younger, I didn't think it was "real" art and made my parents take me out of the class. Now I wish I stayed because this type of painting is genuinely really pretty.

    I would suggest taking a look at actual bamboo leaves before trying to paint them. What you have here is a poor approximation of bamboo.

    Wow, just wow. Sorry to say, but this has no artistry, it looks like a cheap wallpaper. It's like about 20% of what is needed towards painting bamboo. They are not realistic leaf patterns either.
