    I'd advise you not to put your fingers in their spiracles(that's their breathing mechanism by their eyes), you can put your hand in their mouths and carry or drag them back into the water. We handle large rays her in South Africa and it will not hurt your fingers, their mouths are just rough on the inside.

    Real good video of a good day's fishing ... Way to go Matt! I enjoyed watching that, even with all the dang 'Rays'! And you seemed to be feeling better ... hope you're over whatever illness had you down - been concerned about you, glad to see you seem to be feeling better. Stay Bummy!

    Stingrays can be one of the hardest things to bring in if they are big ones! I'm always scared I'm going to lose my rig, on a light setup...

      Yessir! Casted into school of giant sting ray. Broke my line 3 times, my brother almost got one, spit the hook at the shore, it was huge.

    For those small rays, not as necessary but with bigger ones, when they hunker down, pull the line tight and strum it like a guitar (harder and aggressive). It will upset em and 9 out 10 will come up. Ive had to do it 5 or 6 times on a big ray (4 foot across).
    They are good to eat and make excellent shark bait lol.

    Smart to kill those stingray. Maybe not your cup of tea, but better than having your kid step on one. And people who mishandle one will end up in the hospital. Barehanding them doesn't teach people the danger of them

    A good day surf fishing. Getting hit by a ray isn't fun ! I just got caught with the tip of a ray. Top of my hand only a quarter inch long, and it bled like crazy. Didn't hurt, just got cut. I used antibacterial hand wipe and a band-aid. I never go with out the wipes when ever I go fishing. They do help. Not sure what to do if yer stung bad, I know it hurts like hell tho. Allways be careful tho. The barbs are very sharp ! Hope this helps someone out. Tom DB, FL.

    I am super new to ocean fishing, so I don't know if this is true or not. But I was out surf fishing and someone told me that if I catch a shark no matter what species i'm not allowed to remove it from the water. Seeing you remove that bonnethead shark makes me think that isn't true. Anyone know?

    • @BamaBeachBum
      @BamaBeachBum  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not true. There are certain species that you can not remove from the water, but most can be and even harvested like the bonnethead.

    Damned rays. Bah! Even if they were good to eat, they’d still be a pain.
    Your ray releases are good, Matthew. I don’t believe in killing them. I’ve see some people kill every ray they caught, which is just wrong, IMO. Same with hardheads. They are just natural creatures trying to survive like any other fish. Let them live: they have their place in the sea like everything else.

    I would love some advice I stayed at fort morgan over the week of July 4th. Over 7 days of fishing morning, noon, and night I caught well over 100 fish using shrimp, squid, sand fleas, porgie, mullet, and live lining several bait fish. I also used bucktails spoons and some gulp plastics and of the 100+ fish every single one without exaggeration was a catfish any thoughts on rigs to try to keep them off the hook?
