- The Nightingale (2023) Dakota Fanning, Elle Fanning
Real-life sisters Elle and Dakota Fanning will play on-screen sisters in the coming-of-age story adapted from Kristin Hannah’s international bestseller. Pic, which is being directed by Melanie Laurent, is set on the eve of World War II and follows the sisters’ struggle to survive and resist the German occupation of France. The story was inspired by the courageous women of the French Resistance who helped downed Allied airmen escape Nazi-occupied territory and hid Jewish children.
In the quiet village of Carriveau, Vianne Mauriac says good-bye to her husband, Antoine, as he heads for the Front. She doesn't believe that the Nazis will invade France. but invade they do, in droves of marching soldiers, in caravans of trucks and tanks, in planes that fill the skies and drop bombs upon the innocent. When a German captain requisitions Vianne's home, she and her daughter must live with the enemy or lose everything. Without food or money or hope, as danger escalates all around them, she is forced to make one impossible choice after another to keep her family alive.
Hannah’s book became a hit after it was published in 2015. It has since been published in 45 languages and sold more than 3.5 million copies in the U.S. alone. It has become No. 1 New York Times best-seller and spent a total of 114 weeks on the New York Times Bestsellers List. It was also named the best book of the year by BuzzFeed, iTunes, Library Journal, The Wall Street Journal, Goodreads and others.

Loved this book and I wonder if it will ever be released. Another book I would love to see in a movie or series is The Winter Garden. It was another excellent book by her.
I also want to see The Huntress by Kate Quinn turned into a movie, or a show would be better for that, too!
Winter Garden is my favorite book by Kristin! The Nightingale comes in second!
I just got done with “The Women” - it’s fabulous and very cinematic.
“Nightingale” is my #1, although I have enjoyed many of here books.
Forgot to thumbs up the Kate Quinn comment ! Huntress or Rose Code!
@@randomsandra4039who is the author of The Woman?
Read the book a while back....so good! Waiting very patiently for the movie!
I don't know what the holdup is, but I am getting so tired of waiting for this movie to be released. Originally, I was sure it would show up somewhere as a limited series, because there is so much story to tell. I kept thinking how hard it would be to edit this epic book down to a 2 to 3 hour movie without losing too much of the impact. Maybe, that's the problem. I wish Netflix or Amazon had picked this fabulous book up & done the story justice. I hope THE FOUR WINDS becomes a limited series. Sometimes a book is too perfect to edit it down.
Are they putting out The Four Winds too? Loved that book!
:)
Agreed, in general I think most decent books are served much better in this format. Also I'm at the point I don't think it's ever coming out.
I agree. I’ve been waiting for this movie to come out for almost 3 years now, since I first heard they were making it into a film adaptation with the Fanning sisters. I have no idea why they haven’t released it yet (seems they completed filming a year or two ago) but it’s super annoying that they haven’t. It’s definitely lost its momentum at this point (the movie, not the book - the book is excellent).
IKR!!!
Just read this book it is my new fav. I want to see the movie asap
This is my favorite novel, and I’ve been waiting “forever” to see the film. When will it finally be released!! Hopeful!
the 2020 lockdown prevented the start of production. in variety mag
I read on IMDB that it will release in 2024. The hold-up was the French director had two other movies happening and then Covid happened. I hope 2024 is the year like they believe!
so it is not out yet?
It's now July of '24. Still waiting.
My copy of the book says it's now a major motion picture right on the front cover
Mine says SOON TO BE MAJOR MOTION PICTURE
September 2024, is it out yet?
I am reading the book for the third time, and it never ceases to amaze me. My absolute favourite! Does anyone have any idea when the movie will be released? I've read sometime in 2024-25, but any specific date? I hope it does the book justice and that the wait is worth it...
The movie was probably stopped 😢
It hasn’t even started filming yet. I think it will take 5 years or get cancelled, sadly.
Agree
Agree
Agree….. I want to see it in a series too, it’s Amazing
PLEASE RELEASE THIS MOVIE
When is it coming out. I too have been waiting
When is it coming out?
The release date of the movie is yet to be announced.
It was suppose to come out this past December.
Who knows why they’re farting around for years 🤷🏻♀️
I just finished the book. I hope they release this movie soon.
La veré solo por Dakota y Elle Fanning ademas de que a mi me gusta la segunda guerra mundial
I check for this movie every year. It ain't never coming out. How did they drop the ball with Dakota Fanning behind it
She's able to get all these movies done with Denzel but they scrapped this?😡
SIsters together again!
WHEN?!?!
Unfortunately, there is no release date yet.
It’s obvious, the book cannot translate to a movie. A similar book, All the Light we Cannot see, was a disaster on Netflix and it tried a four-part mini-series. Book readers hated it.
The Goldfinch - A complete train wreck.
Those are great books if you have not read them.
The Nightingale could work if they throw out 75-percent of what made the book great.
Most who read the book would be furious but the movie could be successful.
Think about classics like Gone with the Wind and Casablanca.
They are pretty simple little scripts when compared to all the drama in The Nightingale.
Or they could do an eight episode series and follow the book as closely as possible.
I think I may prefer the latter.
Still, if you had Hollywood’s best writers, actors, producers and directors maybe they could put together another Gone With the Wind.
Who they have now won’t do it.
Also, I never read Gone With the Winds, I don’t know if it’s different from book or what they clipped.
Casablanca was written as they filmed it. Winning formula? No book to balance it.
@@hannahbackward I think most readers will realize the movie will obviously not be the same as the book. Just like the book is not a true story. I appreciate the recommendations and will definitely look into them. Thanks for your opinion!
P.s. I'm not sure every thought needs a paragraph.
Yes! Some of the paragraphs could have been combined. Have you read Hannah’s other book The Great Alone! I liked it!
Also both All the Light We Cannot See and The Goldfinch won’t the Pulitzer Prize for literature but only All The Light is historical fiction, WWII like The Nightingale.
My gut feeling is The Nightingale just doesn’t have the A-list director necessary to make such a complicated film adaptation work and the studio got cold feet.
Get rid of the computer talking it's dumb
AD, artificial dumbness.
I read some reports that it's already been filmed and other reports saying it hasn't even been filmed.. don't know what to believe
Better to use it every 6 months rather than paying every month.
Cuando se estrena?
I wonder if they are partially waiting for Oscar season
They have been waiting for three years apparently.
PLEASE RELEASE THIS MOVIE
The movie is still under production.
