  • It made a brief appearance on an vlog earlier in the year, but we finally get to the official introduction of my BMW R100RS that's (not) hiding a few special surprises.
Yes, the bike is a bit of a project after sitting for a long time, however it's mostly working and overall in pretty decent shape.

More details on the bike - 1:37

Thanks, I will. I'm getting pretty close to being able to work on my bikes again, although it's likely going to be another month or so for the next real video.

@@simonchilli2088 Thanks Simon! I just subscribed to his channel a couple days ago, because I really enjoy his thorough explanations about the vehicles he owns. I hope you enjoy his videos too :D

I had a Motorsport with both single and double blue seats plus white Krauser luggage. I enjoyed it but always went back to the 72 R/75 I purchased new inEurope. Now a tad aged to cope with modern traffic and urbanization of country roads, I sold it with 200k on it a year ago. The best BMW the factory built.

An R75/5 is definitely on my bucket list when it comes to BMW bikes. The R100RS is a cool bike, but when I rode it after the second video, it was also noticeable how cramped they are.

I have a genuine 1978 R100RS Motorsport Edition, and the seat unit is the same as fitted to yours. There were two options the twin seat (you have on yours) and the 1 1/2 seat with the angled (triangular) looking rear cowl, but BOTH seats were the dark blue!

Thanks for the info, Carl. For some reason I was under the impression that the early RSs came exclusively with the 1 1/2 seat. Either seat being an option makes a lot more sense, especially in the light of the PO of this bike mentioning that the seat cover was an original Motorsport seat cover.

Lovely Bike the R100RS. I owned a very low millage immaculate gold 1979 model. Back then BMW motorcycles were something special. they were better put together than most other makes, but the price reflected that. I believe the R100RS was the most expensive production bike of its time. The faring was in a league of its own back then. even having a down force design built into the streamlining....Always regretted selling it

I was amazed when you said that you're in west Virginia. I thought from your accent and the background noise of cicadas that yude be in southern eu not the US!!

Well, I live in West Virginia but I’m not from West Virginia (as in, born here). I’m originally from Germany, but lived in the UK and then the US for quite a long time.
Oh, and the cicadas here are *loud*.

@@garagemoneypit I'd noticed that. The chap that I thought I'd replied to as well called Workshop Rebuild is legend. He's in Canada and is currently doing a rebuild of an R60/5. So much detail of the deconstruxion including parts with made in west Germany on them. Epic.

Seibenrock is making all Krauser 4v head parts now. This should lower the prices on any old stock.

Thanks Lars, that's super helpful information. I was aware that Siebenrock had some parts, and it's really good news that they're making more!
