I once read in a surfing book that the author wouldn’t go into the water at Goat Rock except at low tide with a machine gun due to the marauding Great Whites at that location. Love the Virgo and Goat rock! Thanks for the video.
Glad you like the video! I must have paddled Goat Rock 25 - 30 times now and have yet to encounter any sharks. But I am sure they are around us, as they are anywhere on the North American West Coast. Fortunately, a great white can perfectly distinguish between nutritious marine mammals and humans, who contain way too little fat to be attractive as food. The majority of shark attacks on humans are from adolescents who transition from a fish diet to marine mammals. During that period, they try out things to learn what is edible. If they were constantly on the hunt for humans, as certain movies want to make us believe, water sports in most Oceans worldwide would be a deadly adventure.
Nope. This was my first combat capsize with the Virgo. No idea why the rolls on both sides failed. The impact on the rock pushed the air out of my lungs, and so I panicked a bit too early. I have since combat rolled the boat several times. Very easy to roll, actually.
