On 19 August, Khumjung Gompa Innaguration Program
When the M7.8 scale earthquake struck Nepal on April 25th, and M7.3 on May 12th, 2015, it took countless lives across the region. It destroyed most of the traditionally built Sherpa houses, that were built and live by many generations in Khumjung and Khunde village. It also destroyed the school, Monasteries and monuments in Khumbu Valley. Khumjung Gompa management commitee realized that they would face difficulties to perform Dumji and Nyingne religion festival in future inside the demaged Gompa. They have decided to rebuild the monastery by requesting all the Khumjung Khunde Sherpa living in Nepal and abroad as well as international donors. With great luck they have achieved their dream and on 19th August the Khumjung Gompa was officially innaugrated by Tengoche Rimporche. Also present was Napta Rimprche, Thame Rimprche, Chairman of Himalayan Sherpa Foundation, representative of Jing Foundation, chairwoman of Great Himalayan Foundation and many others at Khumjung.
