    The "no right answer means no wrong answers" thing is so stupid, even outside of the context of transness. There's no one right way to make art, but shitting on a piece of canvas is definitely wrong. There's no one right way to cook a meal, but serving raw chicken is clearly wrong. There are so many things that don't have a right way to do, but there are things that are clearly wrong.

    It’s telling that instead of saying “Is being transgender logical” they’re using the term “Transgenderisim.” They aren’t looking at being trans as someone trying to be who they feel that they are, which is just self improvement affirmation of the self. They instead look at being trans as an opposing ideology. It’s a very strange mindset.

    • @akgfilming

      on another note I just hate how right wingers thing of ideology as a bad thing. sure, being pro-trans is an ideology as is LITERALLY EVERYTHING, if you ever string together multiple facts and come to a conclusion (like we do with all the current academic and medical knowledge on trans people!) that's an ideology, it's just weird right wingers thing you can escape ideology which is literally impossible

      I think it's a poorly phrased question that puts both parties on the defensive. Maybe a better question would be "Does one person's self-identification as transgender impose obligations on other people who disagree with that self-identification?"

    • @iaini8080
      @iaini8080 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bumblebeeyellowdragon It used almost exclusively by right wing media outlets. It is a word, but it also practically designed to make being trans sound scary to transphobes. • @EnbyAxolotlOfficial

      It's not as much an opposing ideology as much as it is them trying to make it seem like it is. These people acknowledge that there's more to being trans than "ideologies" but then don't actually fight anything on ideology, they fight things that trans people do, and the existence of trans people. If you'll notice, it's not common that people who use the term "transgenderism" or "gender ideology" to be fighting the thoughts or thought process of what being trans is, but they fight things like medical care, interactions with others (specifically children), and whether trans people exist. I've met so many people who say that trans people do exist, but can't get behind the ideology behind it. But if trans people exist separately from the ideology behind it, then what exactly is gender ideology? People will say "When you think you can become a girl or a boy" but just earlier these people said that trans people *do* exist. It's so fascinating the hurdles and obstacles and the teeny tiny spaces these people squeeze through to come up with arguments that just don't make sense.

Between the stuff they may have experienced before being adopted and also being 14 times more likely to be abused in their new home (maybe the parents had some "image" of what the child would have been like, which is why white baby girls are the most adopted demographic) and also probably feeling tortured by the fact that they'll never know a whole part of their heritage... this isn't the case for everyone of course but still I try not to pry too hard if I find out someone is adopted. Whole system needs to be seriously revamped.

      @leonardocerqueiradias6168 ปีที่แล้ว +98

      @Stripes You know... I had a few minutes to spent, so I DID look it up. Here's the findings:
      While the Declaration of Independence recognizes the unalienable rights of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” and the Constitution explicitly protects life and liberty, happiness goes unmentioned in the highest law of the land.[1]
      The Declaration has no standing in the legal system of the United States; nevertheless, the pursuit of happiness has an important role in American legal history, and is becoming increasingly significant internationally. Protections of the *pursuit of happiness have been written into various state and national constitutions*, and have even been *cited in some of the United States’ Supreme Court’s landmark decisions on marriage*. The emergence of legal protection for considerations of happiness, despite its omission in the supreme law of the land, demonstrates this right’s power in the American consciousness.
      Although the explicit right to pursue happiness is absent from the Constitution of the United States, *it was not forgotten at the state level*. Less than a month prior to the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Virginia Convention of Delegates adopted the Virginia Declaration of Rights, which included a guarantee of the inherent right to “the enjoyment of life and liberty… and pursuing and obtaining happiness and safety.”
      So... you are wrong.

      That's what sucks. They think that there *is* something uniquely male/female, and it always has to do with reproduction. That dude "knows" he's a man because he has a penis. That's as far as he thinks. When questioned on things like "What about dudes that are born with part of their genitals missing? Or who lose them to something like cancer or an accident? Or folks born with a penis but also ovaries?" his answer would be something like "but they did/would've been able to have a penis." When they say “you can’t be trans height” they ignore that height is just height. Height describes a measure of people. If you want to be strictly descriptive of sex, fine, but then sex is just sex. All it describes is sex. Their fallacy is trying to prescribe more attributes to it. For a long time left handed people were acually treated like that, made to feel shame for favoring their left hand, told that it was immoral, that only right handeness was right and natural. When you're trans, the dysphoria, the need to appear more "feminine" or "masculine", and the high number of identifiable emotional responses are like what the symptoms are to being sick. “Sorry, I don’t believe feelings.”

      @@vickils9571 I would argue, gender (body) dysphoria is a sense of something wrong happening to your body, its basicly the same reaction when something unknown would grow visibly under your skin.

    • @vickils9571

      @@celinematerzok6421 Hello, I am a bit confused by what you said, but I think the reason is you don't understand what depression is. Let me clarify it for you. One symptom of depression (which is not enough to diagnose depression) is a sad, low, depressed mood. I did not say feeling depressed I said mood. The reason for that is when someone is suffering from Major Depressive Disorder they don't just feel occasionally down, the mood is long lasting, but one needs other symptoms such as changes in appetite, issues with sleep, loss of interest or pleasure in things previously enjoyed, etc.
      So, how is depression treated? The best course of action is medication combined with therapy. The gold standard for treatment is Cognitive (that is addressing distorted thinking) and Behavioral (addressing behavioral patterns that disrupt one's life. The therapy is CBT, other forms are DBT, or ACT. The first thing that is taught in the COGNITIVE therapies is for people to become aware of the thoughts that are contributing to their depression or anxiety, and then teaching them how to challenge those thoughts (which if you were not aware are notorious liars. I have a tee shirt that says don't believe everything you think just for that reason. The "feeling" isn't even addressed. Only the factors that contribute to feeling dysphoric which are the thoughts and behaviors.
      My main point is we need to make sure that people who are making life altering decisions that ARE NOT reversable have had assessments and therapy first. And that children get left alone.

      @@vickils9571 I'm also a bit confused that you think i dont know what depression is. Let me clarify a few things for you.
      The reason i chose depression as something similiar to gender dysphoria is because of OP "feelings dont determine reality [...]". The statement makes depression not a reality and therefore doesnt exist, at least from my stand point.
      What doesnt exist also doesnt need treatment but we still treat depression in a way that has the highest chance of success. But for Gender dysphoria your advocating for the least effective treatment with a success rate very close to 0%, if you want to increase the chances of "success" you can use methods of torture to induce self hate so the person thinks its disgusting to be themselfs. This method is famously kbown as conversion therapy. It doesnt cure, it doesnt treat, it just makes everything worse.
      Thats the reason medical associations use gender affirming care, it isnt perfect but it has the highest success rate of alleviating gender dysphoria from all known treatments.
      I still dont understand why transphobic ppl want to change neurology of gender dysphoric ppl when its easier to change the body. Both camps seem to want to change biology, it seems.

    I'm a cis woman and I get bored and exhausted by that kind of stuff, so I really can't fathom how much energy it can rob out of a transgender person.
    I would ask a few questions to that man.
    - Did you ever question if you were a boy / decided that you were going to be a man?
    - if not, just imagine experiencing yourself as you are but having a female body, everybody calling you Mrs, Miss, Madam, ... People telling you you should stop being ridiculous, that they can see you're a woman, and that you should go back cooking for your husband. All this while still experiencing yourself as you are right now, so a man. And although you correct people, you try to present as a man, binding, wearing baggy clothes, ... people keep telling you you're a woman, that there's no such thing as what you're experiencing.
    And tell me after how long of that treatment you'll start feeling like you're a woman. I'd say never, because your gender identity is not something you can change. So stfu!

    The trans argument is so weird. Like, if there's a person who has pink hair but is naturally blonde, you would describe them as "the one with pink hair". You know what's confusing? Describing someone as blonde and continuing to describe them as "the blonde one" when there are clearly no blondes in sight. Nobody goes "BuT gENetIcS" when someone changes their hair colour but an amab person puts on a dress and suddenly nature is broken.

    The whole "tell me what a woman is" thing cracks me up because it's the exact exercise we did in SO MANY linguistics classes to demonstrate how language is used intuitively without necessarily carrying the full knowledge of the thing being talked about. And also to demonstrate the challenge of linguistics and how it isn't enough to use our own perceptions to draw linguistic conclusions, but we must observe many instances of many people in many circumstances using the language and DESCRIBE what they are using it for, then we define rules that should predict all correct instances of that word being used in all circumstances of native speakers using it. And if it can't, then it is incorrect and needs to be re-written.
    Only we usually used other words. In my classes, we often attempted to define "bird" and "cookie" - and we could never come up with a consensus because every time the whole class agreed on one, the prof would either show us an example of the word being used by native speakers outside our definition OR would give us examples of things that can be included in our definition but are obviously NOT the thing we just defined. You can do this with basically ANY WORD yet we still use words all the time and generally know what we're talking about when we say them to each other.
    Edit: this exercise was also used to demonstrate the concept of prototypes in linguistics. Which is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of any word. So when you think "bird" you usually don't think "penguins" right away - penguins are birds, but they are not prototypical birds. Same with cookies. Fig newtons are often considered cookies, but the prototypical cookie is usually chocolate chip. Different cultures will also often have different prototype things (individuals also sometimes have different mental prototypes, but for these exercises we usually would ask a large group and see what thing most of them say).

And there are a lot of different ways to be similar. You have to consider the totality of what women are, and not boil it down to a single characteristic.

    "Feelings don't determine reality anywhere else." By this logic, mental illness doesn't exist. They are trying to define transness as a mental illness whilst containing an argument that invalidates mental illness. Also, are they arguing that love doesn't exist because it's a feeling? Trying to reword "facts don't care about your feelings" just makes it even worse of an arguing point for these kinds of people because their entire stance is emotional. "Ew trans" is their entire point, and it is a completely emotional one.

  • @jaspercat6407
    @jaspercat6407 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I haven’t watched all the way through, but I figured I’d like to say my thing about “feeling like a man or a woman”. It really means you feel happier as a man than you do as a woman for trans men and vice versa for trans women. (I’ll stick with the trans man example as that’s what I’m most familiar with) to feel like a man it means to feel happier when you’re “treated as a man” and “look like a man” than when you’re “treated as a woman” and “look like a woman.” I say those in quotes because what being treated as a man is, and what looking like a man is, is a social construct that we have sort of internalized.
    Edit: I’d also like to add another thing. Earlier in the video they talk about how we treat body dysmorphia differently to gender dysphoria. The difference is that with body dysmorphia the feelings often grow worse as you progress towards your goal, feeling like you’re going backwards when in reality you’re going too far forward. With gender dysphoria you feel better as you go towards your goal and feel like you’re going forward. And gender dysphoria had been proven to have the best cure be affirming care, while with body dysmorphia the proven treatment is therapy to get rid of these feelings.

    • @teritt
      @teritt ปีที่แล้ว

      Not to mention that most types of body dysmorphia is negative mental self. They cannot see the reality of their body properly and the image they see in their minds distresses them.
      Where as the near opposite is true for gender dysphoria, they have a positive mental self and yet when faced with the reality of their body, become distressed by that reality.
      And when treatment eventually managed to change that reality they show near immediate signs of improvement. Because reality is beginning to match their mental image.
      This is also true of a specific type of body dysmorphia, often felt by people who remove their breasts to avoid/get rid of breast cancer. They are then recommended surgery and now that reality matches their perception they feel better.
      Gender dysphoria in relation to body more closely matches the body dysmorphia of people who have already removed or changed certain parts of themselves.
      It is not comparable to the more common types of dysmorphia that cause negative mental self image.

The first definition of "female" is " of, relating to, or being the sex that typically has the capacity to bear young or produce eggs." Pay attention to those words: "Of" "relating to" "typically." It shows that it's not rigid, there's nuance, it depends on context.
    And the second definition of "female" is "Having a gender identity that is the opposite of male."

      Wanna know a fun fact? Us Indians have a community of people that are intersex, trans, etc. We call them hijras and throughout our culture we respected them. In fact, they were honored as great artists, dancers and musicians. We knew they were real and we knew they were just ordinary people like us. They had jobs in royal courts as dancers, teachers, so much more. Even some of our deities were intersex. Then everything went to shit. Britishers kinda just ruined our education system, stole our economic possessions like jewelry and precious metals and just went full-on invasion mode. They looked at hijras and started targeting them because intersex and trans people were less common outside of India (or they were just disguised to fit in the binary). People started accepting this harassment as the new normal, that it was okay to discriminate against them. Flashforward to modern day India, intersex/trans people have been thrown to the roads and get made fun of. They're unable to get an education or employment because of their 'unusual' bodies. They're called slurs and made fun of. They're getting killed. It's honestly just horrible. Worst part is, despite our culture giving them so much respect and importance, barely anyone's doing anything. Look at the scriptures, their existence is normal. They were even celebrated as holy people. Look at the present. Just horrible, how we keep preaching India's culture and religious diversities and keep ignoring reality.
      A small add-on related to Ancient Greek culture. Even those guys knew gender identity is real. Look at Dionysus (commonly known to be the god of wine), the god of those that are unsure about their gender. So yeah, transphobia is the new thing, not being trans. We've always been here, fellas. Look at Dr. Alan Hart.

      @Tracey Coles You are a woman for as long as you identify as one.
      The people who define women as only those able to give birth are also excluding pre-pubescent girls or people born with female anatomy who are otherwise infertile due to hysterectomy or scarring in the fallopian tubes from Chlamydia and the egg never reaches the uterus. They are only capable of the most limited thought processes, the people who assert that "baby machine" equals female/woman

    This is a comment I made on a David G. McAfee post, thought I did pretty well for the limited medium. I'd think if I had a full TH-cam videos worth of time it would have been even easier.
    Hi! Ciswoman here. Heard you needed one. Biological sex does present in the binary the large majority of the time. I've never denied that and in my 40 something years that's been the same for most of my peers. There is a difference between cis gender women and trans gender women. I wrote it out for you, cis meaning same, and trans meaning different. There is also something else we can see there, I wrote women twice. That wasn't a mistake. And just for fun I made another thing very clear, the word gender. Someone can be the same gender and sex, that's what I am, someone can be the "opposite" gender from their sex, and sometimes people can be a bit of a mix of all of the above, nonbinary, intersex, etc. Transgender is also a medical term. This means that the "man in a dress using the woman's bathroom" idea from the right is a logical fallacy. Men still don't belong in women's bathrooms, but transwomen do. I've never in my life felt in danger in the presence of a transwoman, but I've been assaulted multiple times by men. I think that covered it all. I don't expect it to mean very much to many of you, but it's there for anyone that needed to hear from a cishetwoman. I'm going to go eat a salad now lol.

      The bathroom argument is so egregiously stupid. One thing I've seldom heard but often thought to myself when these loons spout off their bs is that men don't need to go to the lengths of disguising themselves as women/claiming to be women and going into women-only spaces to assault women because most places are NOT women-only. There are more than enough opportunities for men to commit these crimes without resorting to pretending to be a woman. Doing so is so ridiculously unnecessary that no one has any reason to do something that is such a hassle, if not outright dangerous precisely because of all the transphobes. That's not even getting started on the fact that most people are assaulted by people they know, not random strangers they might meet in a public loo. According to these kinds of people, transgender women are not only immoral men but also, they are determined to conduct their immorality in a way that requires an absurd amount of hassle and opens them up to harassment, assault, and worse.

      @@BlueTressym Not only that, but also, if everyone has to use the bathroom of their AGAB, then there will be trans men in the ladies' room. In that case, cis men won't have to disguise themselves at all. They could just walk right into the ladies' room, and everyone would assume they are trans men.

    I’m from the states, unfortunately, Missouri to be exact. Even in the bigger cities we still have SO MUCH transphobia and hate all around. It’s so sad and scary. Thank you Jamie for helping me feel less overwhelmed with the world around me.

    I can't imagine what will happen to this guy's "logical" world view when he discovers the existence of cis women with PCOS, intersex people, or even something as simple as the concept of an abstract noun, whose sole purpose is describing and naming things that cannot be directly perceived with the five senses..

      He's going to be really uncomfy when he realizes his God cannot be directly perceived with the five senses.
