  • The Shakers gave profound attention to issues of equity and inclusion, education, environmental sustainability, innovation, entrepreneurship, and social welfare, all while creating an extraordinary body of material objects, including by extending well beyond the quintessential Shaker chair and Shaker oval box.
Shaker Museum recognizes contemporary innovators designing future structures with sustainable components fabricated solely from mycelium, a fungus related to mushroom growth. This carbon-absorbing natural resource could dramatically reduce the impact the built environment will have on the natural environment.
Hear about how the collaboration of a team of architects, mycelium experts, building science engineers, structural engineers, and design students resulted in a hypothetical custom residential architectural commission.
