If u hyper focus on Houston play by play, u know why they released him. Once the O lineman got both of his hands on him, he stopped trying. He had one move, quick to the outside. It almost looked like when the lineman touched him, he just stopped trying to get away from him.
In James Houston’s defense, I believe Detroit was playing him wrong. If you remember when he had all the success he had Aidan Hutchison on the other side being double teamed nearly every play so that open it up for James Houston to get those sacks. After Hutchison goes out this year it seems like they put James Houston in Hutchinson‘s place hoping that Houston could turn into Hutchinson but he’s not that type of player first of all he’s not big enough he’s more of a linebacker. He’s only 6‘1“ and 245 pounds and they are putting him at defensive and going head to head with a offensive lineman that are 350 pounds. Houston should’ve been played more as the fifth defensive player on the line during blitzes, he should’ve never been used as a defensive end because he’s way undersized for a defense and going one on one with offensive lineman he should’ve been. Use as a Blitzer with four lineman on the line in Houston kind of stalling or hovering behind them and shooting through the gaps or shooting on the outside to chase The quarterback
U may be right but he seemed to be gaining confidence maybe he was worried about re-injury some guys have harder time getting past a injury mentally. Not saying he woulda suddenly went sack crazy but what body is taking his spot. Not like this team has a bunch Derrick Thomas's and Bruce Smiths needing playing time. He was out there because we don't have anyone else. This will be judged come Friday if whomever does nothing themselves.
No I agree with you bro I think Houston is being unfairly treated and everyone is holding him to high expectations because he had a good first year but they can’t expect that out of him every year as a seventh round pick SMH and he had success when Hutchinson was in the lineup because Hutchinson was most likely drawn double teams and then after that Houston gets hurt and he didn’t come back immediately he was like slowly coming in and out of the lineup because he was coming back from injury and it seems like as soon as he started playing more Hutchinson gets injured for the season and then it seems like they try to put Houston in Hutchinson‘s place and people expected Houston to still have the same success like he did in year one. It’s almost like he’s being punished for having a good rookie season. Because I guarantee if he only had maybe let’s say two or three sacks his rookie year he would still be applauded for having a few sucks but nobody would be holding him to this high expectation and right now having one sack for the year he would probably be praise for that if he only had two or three sacks his rookie year and I bet he would be given more of a chance if that was the case but it seems like him haven’t ate since his rookie year, everybody expects him to be Lawrence Taylor now and then Hutchinson gets hurtThis year during the cowboy game early in the year and they expect Houston to go in there and have the same success. I just feel like he’s kind of being treated unfairly it kind of sucks he had a good game against Houston now he’s been kicked to the side
This one I do not get at all. Houston is a raw but awesome talent. The guy has a rare combination of speed and strength .. I firmly believe he will end up somewhere and this one will haunt the Lions. I also think they should have put him at LB not EDGE.
Under what circumstances would you not want Hendon Hooker to play week 18 if we have home field advantage secured?? Give him reps and grow potential trade value. Instead of Daniel Jones and accomplishing nothing. Maz that’s a whack take
I think Houston had a particular move that surprised people for a half a season then they figured it out and he couldn't adjust to them, a "one trick pony" in other words.
No it’s just Detroit is playing him wrong. If you remember when Houston had all access, he had Aidan Hutchinson on that other side getting double-team nearly every other play. This benefited Houston and gave him openings to go sacked the quarterback. If you look back at this year, Houston comes back from injury so you can’t really fault him at the beginning of the year cause he’s just now getting back into the swing of things and then Hutchinson gets hurt early on in the year with the cowboy game. And then they put Houston in Hutchinson‘s place expecting him to do what Hutchinson was doing and Houston is a linebacker and shouldn’t be used as a defensive end. He should be used on blitzing downs as the fifth guy coming through to try to get the quarterback but they were using him a lot as a defensive end going one on one with 350 to 380 pound offense of lineman when Houston is only 6‘1“ in about 240 pounds so I believe he’s unfairly being treated because of the success he had in year one, he gets hurt and once he comes back you can’t expect him to just go full throttle and start getting sacks every other game you gotta give them some time to get acclimated and by the time he was going to get acclimated Hutchinson gets hurt so that pretty much put him in a different spot, maybe they got upset because he can’t be the player he needs to be without Hutchinson or another player Getting double teamed for him to have success. In my opinion, they should’ve gave it a little more time to see if he can break open like he did in your one now that they have the nearest Smith on that side. Smith is only been here for two weeks so they didn’t even give it a chance to see if Houston would be able to benefit from Smith being on the line
"can't get'em healthy enough" ...what you expect the coaches to do? rub their hands together and create miracle recoveries? what a really silly thing to even say.
There has to be more to the story because at first I thought they were waving him because after the trade deadline when you cut a player you can only cut them and wave them you can't shift them back to the practice squad. So I thought they were waving him for some reason and hoping to get him back and throw him back on the practice squad so he can continue to develop. But when I heard Dan Campbell do his little speech he kept saying sometimes someone needs a fresh start somewhere else and it just didn't work out with James and blah blah blah so Detroit cut him with no intentions on bringing him back is what it sounds like and that sounds uncharacteristic of Detroit because they usually like to keep their draft picks and especially a draft pick that's been having success like Houston has because if you look at his body of work, he did good as rookie season, then he got injured the next year or at the end of the rookie season so he didn't play much last year hear it and then this year he's coming back from that injury so you got to give him time to get acclimated you can't just throw them into the fire and right now it's a time where he's kind of getting acclimated back to the NFL style of play and Bam they cut him. It seems like it they cut him as soon as he started getting a little rhythm going again. So it seems like he was never given a chance and when I mean cut him they're cutting him and not intending on bringing him back whatsoever. Like I said I thought maybe they were waving him and hoping he cleared waivers so they could throw him back on the patches Squad but I don't think they're bringing him back at all by the sounds of it. Unless Dan Campbell just assumes that he's going to get picked up by another team no matter what but you would think Dan would have said he's hoping to get James back on the practice squad if possible but if he gets picked up by another team then that's great blah blah blah but he didn't say that he just said sometimes you need a fresh start and it's probably going to be good for James to go to a different scenery and he said I wish him the best. So that sounds like they don't have any attention of bringing him back. So it sounds weird like I said he just came off injury from last year so you can't expect him to be playing back at a level he was immediately you got to give him you know at least a half a season to get back on the swing of things and if you look at it now it seems like he's slowly getting back to that level and I would have probably given him at least to the end of the season to see if you could do better, then cut him but it seems like something else is going on behind the scenes I don't know what you guys think
Look Daniel Jones was released for a reason. There are other QB's that we can get that is better. Hendon Hooker would add mobility to the position. Which would hold the linebackers. At this point we (lions) need to start using Tim Patrick and Allen Robinson more in getting them more passes. Teams are going to start shutting down the middle and double teaming Williams.
Houston, along with Jamaal, will always be remembered for being on the team that turned this whole damn thing around starting in 2022. Hoping James finds a long career elsewhere.
I never understood why they held Houston back after his rookie season. It makes me wonder if he is like not a hard-practicer or character issues. Doesnt make any sense from the outside looking in...
I was wondering the same thing because it seemed like Houston broke out the second half of his first year and even before he got hurt the second year it seemed like he was not in certain games and I kept wondering why. I wonder is he just like lazy or maybe he had that little bit of success and got complacent and thought he didn’t have to work as hard since he had those eight sacks maybe he thought his bed was made now and he was good to go. Some people get a little success and think they don’t have to work as hard anymore because they already made it to the promised land but there’s always someone on your tail trying to take your job especially in the NFL so you have to keep doing yourself year in and year out to stay relevant, so I’m wonderingIf he just got complacent after having that little success
To me it feels like he was drsgging his ass in practice.. They like hard workers and it feels like maybe he wasn't a "team" player. Ala Alan Iverson. "Just talk'n bout practice ".
I think I figured out the problem with James Houston and the Detroit lions. Houston is in a linebackers body but he's only good for playing the defensive end position, which he is way undersized to do so. They can't just use them as a Blitzer linebacker, they probably need him to do the other linebacker duties which she probably has trouble doing. So his only way to stay on the field and use him is to put him at defensive end to where he's constantly on the line and rushing the quarterback wish I said there's a problem with that cuz he's undersized. So maybe Detroit felt like the roster spot for him is being wasted because they can't put them on the field on every down. So that's just my guess he's a small frame the linebacker that's only good for playing defensive end and at that position he's getting manhandled by these offensive linemen. So sure he could be used as a blitzing linebacker on 3rd and long but they probably want more out of a player than just a third down blitzing linebacker
Baker had success in Cleveland. You think they wouldnt like to go back and not get rid of Baker for Mr. Happy ending. What is the Hendon hatred. What exactly are all these platforms going off? Coming in in a blowout and working with the 2nd string line and receivers and RBs? How do u judge a guy based on not act being a backup fora few games where u work in practice with the starters and start and play. We have people basing Hooker off garbagetime minutes with other backups. Was Mr. Dimes running the 2nd string in NY? Ludacris. This is based on too much koolaid and Ben Johnson.
I tried to watch it but Stickman is just annoying as Hell. I'll never forget Stickman whining at the start of the draft as we were to see Goff's first season in Detroit and there was Stickman whining that the Lions needed to draft a QB.

At the beginning of the year I don’t remember even seeing him, I just believe now that Smith is in the lineup on the defensive end where Hutchinson was I think they should’ve gave Houston more time because Houston had a good game against Houston Texans but I’m wondering maybe it’s because he’s not good at The other linebacker duties like stopping the run or running with A tight end. So I’m wondering if that might be the case he’s just not as versatile and he’s only good on third and Long

@cwebb6647 Don't know what game you were watching. James Houston wacked Stroud and he fumbled. Houston was all over the field that night. Should of gotten credit for two sacks. Same old Lions screwing over a promising player. It makes no sense. Lions have the worst pass rush in the NFL. Injuries on defence are stacking up. They have a good idea? Let's cut James Houston. Idiots. If I were the Bears, I would sign Houston immediately. Start him against the Lions.
If u hyper focus on Houston play by play, u know why they released him. Once the O lineman got both of his hands on him, he stopped trying. He had one move, quick to the outside. It almost looked like when the lineman touched him, he just stopped trying to get away from him.
Yup. He would be slow dancing with the o-line
He also seemed weak out there as well.

Danny Dimes said, " i want to go to a contender and be a backup for a while." The guy is broken and he needs stability to help fix him
This should not be the topic. The topic should be Daniel Jones, not coming to Detroit as a back up over hooker
Wait why are they arguing about having Daniel Jones on this team?!😂😂😂😂

nah, hes still under contract by one of the florida teams. so even if he un-retires, we cant claim him unless they release him first
@inFAMous1013fm ah OK I seen the Houston waived was real, but hadn't seen anymore abt barrett
I Don't like James Houston being waved com on man really... I hope he goes somewhere😮 else and dominates.
The problem is, Hooker is not getting any reps with the first team offense because Goff is so durable(knock on wood). When he does, then we can judge.
They better get an experienced QB forget hooker.
First Hooker is not taking anyone job anytime soon. Especially Jared Goff.

@ I was a James fan coming outta college….u should rewatch the fumble play
His tape is bad he’s too small to play on the line he’s terrible vs the run he can’t cover as LB he doesn’t really fit are defense
silly
Correct... Do people think they didn't give him a chance to try to play those positions? Now they are acting like he's the second coming of LT
@@spitdog351 he could fit on a team that plays a 3 man front and fills the field with LB’s
Making room for Daniel Jones
I’m literally pissed at my team fans love this guy but it’s a business
