Shepherdess Robin McNall-Ross raises both Suffolk sheep and Katahdins (hair sheep). She discusses her experience raising Suffolks and how they compare to Katahdin sheep.
I'm so happy to see you back, Dan, I have missed you and Little Buddy. I'm so sorry for what you have had to go through, you didn't deserve that. I hope to see LB in your videos again, I can't imagine how much he will have grown since I last saw him.
Suffolk was the breed I had. They did mature fast. One was too fast. She tried to give birth before she was a year old. The uterus inverted with the lambs head out. We slaughtered the ewe but saved the lamb that was very precocious and being born in January was ready for market early.
That was interesting! Ive come to really like katadins, cause they thrive in my harsh environment and taste great . I was thinking about raising a couple wether suffolks ,for comparison on how they would do in my system. Feel like i heard the answer! Im steep rocky hillside no place for sheds. Never need to trim hooves or shear, dock or worm. Starting to get a larger frame on my ewes and mantaining, the toughness. Dorper and the crosses havent done so good. Think ill stick to what i got going and see tge resukts next couple seasons.
I'm loving the series. Thanks for doing this... I think there may be a lamb breed that I'm willing to try in my future... Maybe not the Suffolk, though!
💜If you were ready to raise sheep again, would you raise the same breed as before or would you choose differently? And if different, which breed would you choose and why? Totally off topic, you have a very soothing voice 👍
How did the Suffolk on the Katahdin do? I was thinking about that for our Katahdin ewes. Are they completely terminal or will the ewe lambs shed off and make a good ewe? Thanks.
Which is the best sheep breed for meat ? I heard the taste of the meat is different. I have looked at Suffolk and Texel. Any of you could advise me in any way because I want to start my own business and want to choose the right breed.
Glad to see you putting this all together in this format. I know you put a lot into getting the footage and I'm sure many people will find it useful.
I hope!
I realize it's kinda off topic but does anyone know a good place to stream newly released series online ?

I agree, Suffolks are the most beautiful sheep.
I hope you are soon able to get sheep once again.

Robin How many Rams have you? how many female sheep do you have?
I read this document, stating that Suffolk is sometimes referred to as Downy Breed. Is it true?
Thank you Dan, lovin' the sheep series! :)
