I really enjoyed this video. This year 2022, I had the experience of writing a puppet show. ( It was performed) The techniques I used to write it are mentioned in this video without realizing I was actually using a method.
Wow! This is a wonderful insight into crafting basic fundamentals for a potential story! Thanks for sharing! This is some serious thinking outside of the box.
Wow. Here I was just threading the words together into someone struggling to catch a plane in the morning, and launching off from there. Fascinating how the process can differ with one prompt. Also yours was funnier.
That's what I love about the creative process! Little seeds of ideas can go in a million different ways. We've done a few 24 hour theater festivals where various groups get the same prop and line of dialogue they have to incorporate, and it's ALWAYS interesting to see how groups work it in.
Really great way of working. The story is pretty funny, I would have had spit out the coffee and put out the fire without her even realise what was going on. Thanks a lot for that great video.
Thank you! You just said something that inspired me. I don't really want to remember it so it just becomes inspiration. Ok. I'm ready, puppetry here I come 🥊
The brainstorm process, tells me immediately that the so-called 'unprepared' getting started is very prepared, because of a lot of investment and insight already present.
This sounds like an old Goofy cartoon or something. It would be fascinating to see how you would stage all of that! Edit: I see you’ve done it! Wow thanks!
Hello, thanks for a wonderful video. I would request you to upload a video on 5min (verbal less only puppet action) puppet story script that conveys message which would be humour filled too due to absence of language but still conveys message effectively
We first figure out the scale of the puppets. For this we decided the puppet would be 9 inches. I scanned the puppet and set sketch into the computer, made sure the puppet was actually 9 inches, and then scaled the sketch to look right. I then printed it out at 1/2 scale so we could use it as a reference, using a architect ruler to scale it back up. We made them from various types of paper attached to foam core to give them structure.
This was so helpful. Thx I struggle greatly with writing my plays. How do you store your shadow puppets? I am going to tour with my shadow puppet plays eventually. I’m just curious how other puppeteers store their work.
Thanks! Just keep at it and you'll find better and better ways to approach the writing process. Depending on the size of the puppets we usually like to store our shadow puppets in large manilla envelopes, sometimes with sheets of paper between them so they don't tangle together. Some people store them in folders for easier access. The big thing is to make sure they're flat and won't bend. Even just stacking them between two pieces of cardboard and holding it together with masking tape or a rubber band will work well for a time!
And in the end is a kurig or a cold brew in the fridge and ultimately the french press fresh brew is abandoned. And OMG when she opens the fridge we see she left her cell phone inside the fridge. After the coffee disaster she just drinks the kurig prepared coffee and naturally without confusion cause she does this all the time grabs her phone from the fridge and takes the zoom call. Afterall she possesses an aroma of confidence. Teehee. Yeah thats the ticket. Thanks this is much better than a morning cup if peas!
@@AlexAndOlmsted ayy, that was unexpected! I had to write a puppet show script for a Science based (in my case astro hahah) and watching this before getting started really helped. Also thanks for checking out my video 😄
@@AstroRoxy That sounds awesome! What a cool assignment. We made an outer space puppet show called "Marooned! A Space Comedy" and loved learning more about space. Since we're so close to DC we even had some Nasa folks come see the show! Keep up the good work 😃
@@AstroRoxy Alas, it's not available online. We were scheduled for a live run earlier this year, but then the pandemic shut all the theaters down. We're still working on it between other projects, though!
One thing I would politely say is this, do you realise how many times you insert the work LIKE into your sentences, and it is not necessary for that word to be there at all. It is not part of good sentence construction and is sadly worse than saying um...!!! It does make listening to what you are saying very difficult.
Thanks for the feedback. While we make a strong effort to avoid ums, uhs, and likes in our scripted tutorial videos, it's a bit harder to do when you're thinking fast against a time limit. "Um" or "like" can often be like a buffering icon as a webpage loads. If I don't need to add the additional layer of "don't say 'like' so much" then I can just be in a more creative, flow state. Brainstorming is all about getting rough ideas out quickly and THEN refining them.
Inspiring to see the brainstorm process. Thanks!
Thanks, friend!
I do love watching you two brainstorm!
This was so fantastic. Thank you. It really got the creative juices flowing.
Thanks! If you make a show let us know!
So clever! Really gratifying to watch.
Thanks! It's always fun to give yourself less time than you'd want to make something. Gets the fire going!
Oh my goodness I loved this video! I was getting so many ideas just hearing yours that I had to pause to write some down. How fun! Thank you!
Aww, thanks! I always love to hear other people brainstorming ideas because it puts my brain in that space too.

what a great resource for demonstrating the creative story development process! Absolutely love and appreciate this video!
Thank you so much! We really appreciate the kind words. ☺️
This is a fantastic example of a writing session. Massive thanks!

Haha, I can totally see this kind of premise as a Goofy cartoon!

What about making the scenes?? The backdrop or the structures??? How to make them?
