@Peter Parlee-Carr Then thank the Anglo-Americans for saving Germany from dismantlement at the end of WW1, and for always backing it in Hitler's murder spree through Europe leading up to the war. Of all the nations in the world, America and the UK are the most responsible for WW2 after Germany.
@Peter Parlee-Carr It has been proven that Germany could pay it's war reparations as although the total amount seems astronomical they were allowed a lot of time to pay them, so in total reparations were only a small part of the annual budget. Not only that but german wealth in industry and resources was left untouched by the war. The reasons why the economy crashed was because the governement refusing to pay out of pride defaulted on it's payments, which lead investors not to believe in them anymore and lead to a crash.
@Peter Parlee-Carr The sad thing is that if the British and French hadn't backed down over Czechoslovakia, Hitler's forces could have been crushed early. If Germany had tried to fight the war in '37-'38, even on a single front, they would have been crushed. They still hadn't built up enough materiel or men to take Western Europe /or/ the Soviets until a few years after that point. A French/British force could have rolled straight into Western Germany basically any time before mid 1940. If Germany had been trying to fight Britain, France, and the Low Countries in the west, Poland and Czechoslovakia in the east, and Denmark and Norway in the north all at the same time instead of piecemeal, the war would have come to an abrupt end. Chamberlain goes down in history as one of the most blind and cowardly leaders of all time for damn good reason.
Plenty have said what a great song it is, so I'm just going to mention one thing I really like about this track. Lyric: "And the judgement has begun, nowhere to run" What was General Erich von Falkenhayn's code name for the Verdun offensive? Operation Gericht (Judgement) Maybe it wasn't intended, but I like to think it was.

The transition from (Violin?) to the real song sounds like the soldiers of Gallipoli, waiting in the trenches before the whistle blows and the men charge out of the trenches and into no mans land under heavy fire, mix that with the Gallipoli mounted horseback cavalry charges.
I remember when I was vaguely interested in ww1 when I was 9, due to me playing toy soldiers. I heard about a battle, called Verdun. I was curious, so I looked it up. The first image I saw…it confused me at first (I didn’t properly grasp what exactly ww1 was like) then disturbed me. A colourized photo of a French soldier, slumped up against the inside wall of a half destroyed building . His entire lower body, was gone. Organs spilling out. Eyes vacant. On the left side of the building, was a field of bodies. Entangled in wire, drowned in the mud. Cool beans.
"The only thing the French are good at is surrendering." The French were an incredible nation all throughout history. They just happened to run into the German Panzer line which.. like.. flattened all of Europe. Even the Russians had a hard time fighting them off.
Quite literally the main reason the USSR didn't fall like France was because of its size. The Soviets had a lot of land to fall back to, to regroup and rebuild. France had colonies, sure... but they kinda were on the other side of the sea, and the Italian Navy wasn't really a weak one.
Every time I hear a sabaton song like this one I can't help but think about what these must have went through and it makes me sad, sorry if get anyone else upset over this
Don't forget that French also participated in the bloodiest one-day battle - Borodino. Yeah. French, Germans and Russians are champions in fierce battles. Spilled a lot of each other blood.
My thinking is: this is one song, but Sabaton separated the primary track from secondary on purpose, for us to discover that both of them are much better together.
Wrong, verdun *is* hell. Same with gallipoli. And the somme. If you read dantes inferno(the book which most scholars use as a representation of hell) there are a lot of similarities between the two, read for yourselves. "The land was barren lacking any life. Its dead carcass strectched across miles of suffering and anguish. It drove virgil mad turning on his former friend. The two sat at opposite ends. Dante wanting to decend to the third ring with virgil stopping him. He had lost count of how many times he toiled to breakthrough,"-fourth ring of hell, dantes inferno.
"We shit on paper and threw it over our hole, one of our men stood up and died with his trousers down, just 10 feet from the hole. After we ran out of paper and food, we drink our piss. We still survived Hell, while others didn't." - A frenchman who survived The Battle of Verdun
This American used to mock France for quickly they fell in WW2. Then Sabaton released this song. Then I researched VERDUN. I no longer mock the French; under any and all circumstances.
Honestly, I think that the funniest thing that happened after Verdun was that Petain's line ("they shall not pass!") became an anti-facist line, while he became a facist.
Actually it was Robert Nivelle who said "they shall not pass" kind of ironic considering he was the same man who sent hundreds of thousands to be butchered by the German lines during the Nivelle offensive
WW1 saw the invention of countless prototype on and off the battlefield, even though rifle grenade didnt see a wide use they already existed, that and many other catapult and mortar made with what little they had to send grenade to the other side
All those persons who say that french retreat everytime they have fought a war do not have listen to the battle of verdun and his extraordinary history, Sorry for the bad grammar im hispanic

Yes. I can’t name a single time the French surrendered without putting up at least a little bit of a fight
The background is audio adds so much juice to the climaxes of the songs. Chills all song long. Amazing job.
I love the sort of echo in this version, dont know how to describe it. Amazing.
Plenty have said what a great song it is, so I'm just going to mention one thing I really like about this track.
Lyric: "And the judgement has begun, nowhere to run"
What was General Erich von Falkenhayn's code name for the Verdun offensive?
Operation Gericht (Judgement)
Maybe it wasn't intended, but I like to think it was.
It usually is intended with sabaton. And it seems a little too perfect to be otherwise
Ik this comment is months old, but Gericht would mean "Court" instead of Judgement, Judgement would be "Beurteilung" or simply "Urteil"

Cool beans.
Respect for all the people who fought and died in that battle...
"The only thing the French are good at is surrendering."
The French were an incredible nation all throughout history. They just happened to run into the German Panzer line which.. like.. flattened all of Europe. Even the Russians had a hard time fighting them off.
And the time when a Char B1 bis encounterd a line of panzer III's and dominated them all
Quite literally the main reason the USSR didn't fall like France was because of its size. The Soviets had a lot of land to fall back to, to regroup and rebuild.
France had colonies, sure... but they kinda were on the other side of the sea, and the Italian Navy wasn't really a weak one.
the people forget the french spirit and what they did back in the Napoleonic wars, which is an eternal shame.
try to play the intro at 0.75 speed, sounds emotional, like on a funeral, the funeral of ~700,000 and thousands of Civilians nearby

Salute to those who endured the hellish conditions of Verdun
Over a hundred years ago: Verdun. Today: Bakhmut, Avdiivka, Mariinka. The battle for the Donbass will be remembered as modern day Verdun.
Yes , this song is highly applicable for those battles as well. Indeed they are the modern day Verdun.
Not even close. No gas attacks, no massive attack of artillery, no millions of death
I don't think any of those battles had artillery firing millions of shells in the opening bombardment
Every time I hear a sabaton song like this one I can't help but think about what these must have went through and it makes me sad, sorry if get anyone else upset over this
I'm just gonna say tha i got goosebumps while listening to this.

The French fought with more ferocity and Iron Will at Verdun then the Russians at Stalingrad and that's saying something because Stalingrad was bloody
Thats debatable
@@shdx7764 well the French held out for 303 day with nearly no food and little water and still fought to the end
Don't forget that French also participated in the bloodiest one-day battle - Borodino. Yeah. French, Germans and Russians are champions in fierce battles. Spilled a lot of each other blood.
"they shall not pass" Robert Nivelle during the battle of verdun
Begin is like a soldier thinking back to the past and when the music start all hell break lose

The Death Korps of Krieg would respect those who survived this fight.
"We shit on paper and threw it over our hole, one of our men stood up and died with his trousers down, just 10 feet from the hole. After we ran out of paper and food, we drink our piss. We still survived Hell, while others didn't." - A frenchman who survived The Battle of Verdun

Actually it was Robert Nivelle who said "they shall not pass" kind of ironic considering he was the same man who sent hundreds of thousands to be butchered by the German lines during the Nivelle offensive

Rifle-grenades were already invented in WW1? I thought it was a 1930's invention
There were experimental rifle grenades in ww1 however like a lot of weapons from then they didn't see wide use
WW1 saw the invention of countless prototype on and off the battlefield, even though rifle grenade didnt see a wide use they already existed, that and many other catapult and mortar made with what little they had to send grenade to the other side
The refrain has this choir esq effect that just makes it sound like thousands are singing at the same time
