this set happened a few hours ago and was uploaded half an hour ago, and i’m calling right now that this is a set that will live in the pantheon of incredible melee sets
My homie called that out when we were watching it, too. We rewatched those techs 4 times because they were so wild. Shows the caliber of Melee these guys are playing at.
The fact the he was focused and playing seriously against someone ranked ninth is a far cry from when he would play someone ranked sixth and not even use his main.
@@voodooedits785 Yeah, first time Cody's won a Game 5 nailbiter against them. Cause before he beat Mango 3-1 at Summit 8 and 3-0 at Summit 12, and he beat Zain in Game 5, but it wasn't a nailbiter, as Cody almost 4 stocked Zain, and if he did 4 stocks him, he would've been the first Fox to do so since Leffen at SNS 5
His mentality is so much better now; he may have been a bit tilted game 4 (with the threat of a reverse 3-0 who wouldn’t be) but he brought it back game 5
People were saying this set was insane and here I'm going, this is one of the few Mango sets where Mango will rarely finish a combo or stock with a down air. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen Mango hesitate so much to down air spike kill a Fox. Also never expected Mango to go for ledge so much on recovery. Not sure why.
Mang0 has been saying how dair doesn’t work much anymore and he’s been practicing not using it. He maybe has gone too far in the other direction and is not using it where he should, but there were also instances where he used dair and didn’t get anything out of it. He’s trying to make it a mix up more, it seems. There’s a part where you expect a dair but a bair is used instead, maybe expecting the DI to stage and so iBDW gets sent to the other edge of the stage.
@@SilkNeon While I can see the mix up situations, it's still a very strong tool to close out stocks or even used to threaten off-stage recoveries. Overall, I do feel like when I'm watching Mango nowadays, it looks as though he's not enjoying himself when he's playing and is looking for more guaranteed situations like other Falcos do. The hesitation on the final moments of game 5 lead to his demise. Just lately(and apparently it comes up from some of his training partners too), Mango seems very off in his confidence to play his game in tournament or even mix up his punishes. The discipline is there, but you also have to enjoy the game too and try to loosen the moveset choice more. I know it sounds weird for me to say Mango doesn't enjoy melee or playing in tournament, but I don't like his current approach to the game.
@@BlackDeathBlade No dude, thats totally believable. I think his heart just isnt in there anymore; He's got nothing else left to prove, you know? Its the new generation of young men who still want to become a champion more, Mango has been there done that you feel me? I can totally see how once youve reached that echelon how you might be more laid back and not be as passionate as you once were in your prime young years.
@@TheRealSorav I think this is one of the realest and most based takes I've seen. When I got top 500 in Overwatch I quit caring about about the game as a whole because I already had proved to myself I could do it. And while I think Mango is far from not caring, those rankings sure put a new fire in him.
14:09 the Shield DI there 😳 Shield DI/Shield SDI are among the few mechanics that've always felt enigmatic to me. I wonder exactly what even happened here tbh; the first hit of drill didn't move falco at all, every other hit moved him so much. Did mango just mash left-ward on the control stick until the roll came out? Was the roll even on purpose? Who can say for sure?? This game is insane lmao
I feel like Cody has been a top player for a long time, but watching him now he seems so much more comfortable at that level of play. Can't quite put my finger on why, but he's just smooooooth now.
The double jump at 06:17 is so painful- you know he was trying to wavedash, pressed it too early and panic tried to avoid the punish with a double jump dair
That airdodge in, then nair to cover roll game 4, that 50/50 on whether Cody could tech a dair on the left side of Yoshi's game 5, mixup covering the low mang0 recovery, it's insane that these games really come down to these clinchers.
@@enriquerivera1253 nah, this is still a deserved comment he played out of his MIND, just couldn’t close it out against another of the greatest players in the world
@@enriquerivera1253 nah, just the fact that mang0 played like this and made it to top 8 again is enough to say he's back lmao it was a phenomenal set even if he lost
@@enriquerivera1253 knowing mang0 s ceiling, yes, but for how he was underperforming the last few tournaments to take a top 3 player this close is progress back
insane set in the last 3 games but lets be honest those first two games were spaghetti from both players and mango looked defeated after game two, glad he turned on the engine afterwards. Last 3 games were perfect fox falco showcase.
16:06 Mang0 has the freest of edge guards (49/50 Falcos get that) and chickens out . 1 visit to Verdugo or his own tournament series would've prepared him for that.
Mango has this guy beat everyday all day… He just fucks with his timing. Mango should approach with double laser into down air into shine into down air into down smash
The crowd from 6:25 to 6:30 lol
A: *random hype scream*
B: "He didn't do anything!"
OMG
That's fucking great.

the GOML crowd mic keeps giving

@@DrWiley-fm3ik nah you’re buggin
It's not like some of the GOML 2019 sets
yeah this shit was od
Still my favorite set th-cam.com/video/sWEEoqvjoqk/w-d-xo.html this was OD melee
16:18 iBDW's tech to instant side b on Mango's soft back air was crazy in my opinion. He also tech'd falco's up b just before it
My homie called that out when we were watching it, too. We rewatched those techs 4 times because they were so wild. Shows the caliber of Melee these guys are playing at.
yeah crazy set from both players but cody deserved the win after that
stupid game
This is the best Grand Finals I've seen in awhile.
God I wish it was Grands, that was absolutely insane, Cody is fucking 🔥🔥
Is funny how the best sets are usually out of grand finals.
This is one of the best sets I’ve ever watched but I’m not gonna lie it’s painful as a mang0 fan

What a set! Mang0 almost brought it all the way back, can't even be mad, such a great showing from both players
I've watched hundreds of hours of Melee across countless tournaments... and this is one of the wildest sets I've ever seen!
My god, the endings to like every single game in this set were unbelievable. This felt like a modern-day Genesis 4 Mango vs Leffen.
Damn this set was out of control 🤯 can’t wait for top 8 tomorrow
Mang0 NEVER losses those type of game 5 last stock situations. Shout out to Cody for clutching it out

banger of a set

Almost never watched melee competitive before however I have watched a lot of informative videos about them. that Randall logo is on fleek!

what a set holy shit, ending was nuts
Do they play with stick jump on???? I cannot play with stick jump and I know you can to change it on melee and was wondering what the pro’s do?

How did ibdw grab the ledge at 2:08? I don't understand how he fell off
