BAR is a faithful, modern, recreation of Total Annihilation; the original game that spawned SupComm/PA/FA/ZeroK and all the others. Also, of every game in the entire genre, Planetary Annihilation is by far the worst.
PA is played on planets so the maps have you fighting over the surface of a sphere (or multiple spheres), you also have orbital units. This means you can't hide in a corner. There are also planetary level super weapons that can let you destroy entire planets. FAF typically tends to play on a more strategic level with high level movements of a larger number of units played on a larger map. You won't get as much low level micro management of individual units. FAF also has powerful shield buildings and strong defensive structures which can favor turtling. Those are the main differences, there are lots of other differences though.
