I have never seen such a sad Christmas parade in my life. Back in the late 70's, I was a trumpet player in the Winnsboro High Wildcat marching band. Back then we had bands with military style training. Not just my band but all of the bands in Columbia were ten times bigger than the ones today. We always marched in block formation and the music was tight. No embarrassing dancing like the jungle bands today. We played our instruments with pride and knew the music. We did not have the stupid dancing girls in front of the band but a few flag carriers. Not waving flags but the flags of the US, State and school colors. Our drum major was dressed in style with not stupid dancing like he came from Zimbabwe. We played only Christmas in the Christmas parades we attended. Not some crap no one even knows. Very sad to what has happened to the bands. Back then Eau Claire was a powerful band. Brookland Cayce fired off with some very loud brass. Sumter High was a good band. Irmo High was like Winnsboro. Not as big as Columbia High. Lexington High was our competition. Bands of today are a damn joke. It seems that today, bands are a things of the past. All of today's bands sound like they never practiced music at all. Very sad. When we marched back in the 70's, we had pride and damn good musicians. Very dad today. If my band director told me I had to dance like the bands today, I would tell the director I will miss this party.
I have looking at Christmas Parade all round different City and States and I am wondering where is the Joy we use to have in the Christmas Parades. They are all sad and long. Too many cars, trucks and people just walking. What ever happen to the different bands playing Joyfull music and celebrating the Holidays We need to bring them back
