  • Google, Microsoft, and Amazon are teaming up with Big Oil to squeeze more oil and gas out of the ground using machine learning technology.

    Google, Microsoft, and Amazon have been very vocal about their efforts to reduce the world's dependence on fossil fuels. But as The Wall Street Journal and Gizmodo have reported, these same companies are currently teaming up with fossil fuel industry to help them squeeze as much oil and gas out of the ground as possible.
    Oil has always been hard to find and hard to extract, and so the industry has teetered precariously on the edge of profitability several times over the course of its history. Over and over again, experts have predicted that we'll soon run out of accessible, affordable oil - but so far, they've been wrong. Just when things look bleakest for black gold, new technology swoops in to keep the industry afloat.

      So what they are in the oil business?
      With data+machine learning=efficient right?
      That means
      Efficiency in extracting/storung energy.
      And distributing energy as efficient as possible.
      This is a good thing. A stepping stone for extracting/storing/distributing green energy.

      Dennis Pietrandrea To save money, cut down on electricity, utilities, trips to the grocery store, use outside sunlight to light rooms. Get a cellphone battery charger that plugs into the wall and an extra battery. Clear storage on cellphones by going to apps, then touch an app and then touch storage below that. Then clear data. Do that on ALL apps. Then look at your storage bar. It'll come down. Touch Chrome then the 3 verticle dot's and then history and remove trash from sites not needed. Everytime you look up something, it goes into your history. Too much storage causes your phone to be slow or act up. Try a restart or reboot. To eliminate virus messages, maybe try a restart or reboot. Delete old phone calls. Delete unnecessary apps. Remove unused apps you installed like Amazon or a bank app. It uses up storage.

      Wouldn't surprise me tbh. With the way things are going I wouldn't be surprised if the lower classes are seen as nothing more than serfs by then. AI and the weakening effectiveness and incentive to enforce legislation will eventually result in the working classes becoming obsolete and maybe even burdensome aspects of society.
      I can't predict the future but it seems to me that the predictions made by Bladerunner were spot on, it's just that it'll take a few more decades to get there than originally envisioned.

    but why?! the fossil fuel will be finished in the future, whether in 30 years or a hundred years and if these companies want to survive they have to invest in renewable energy.
    whats their plan exactly?! we have to change our sources someday.

    • @AdityaKashi
      @AdityaKashi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Their plan is to make as much money is possible. If there's money in oil now, so be it. When it goes down, no problem, they'll just continue doing the loads of other things they're doing to make money, including renewable energy technologies. They just *maximize* profit.

    • @robinlindberg1231
      @robinlindberg1231 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No they will not. Here's why:
      1. Gasoline cars are already losing popularity for electric cars. Renewable sources of energy are getting popular. In the coming decades, the transportation sector's use of fossil fuels will be insignificant. Currently, they are one of the largest.
      2. There's enough oil to last centuries.
      3. Oil is used in plastics, tar, asphalt, jet fuel, rocket fuel, etc. Oil is not going away anytime soon.
      The biggest misconception here is that oil is only used for fuel. It's used for a lot more than that. So it's not going away.

      We've been leading global petroleum and natural gas production for a couple years now.
      I was gonna say that we export so much petroleum and natural gas, why don't we keep it at home for energy independence... BUT some reading has shown me that we're not quite yet at energy independence.
      Still, I'd rather our most brilliant minds work on increasing the viability of nuclear and solar+battery storage, while local governments work on modernizing their cityscapes and public transportation systems.
      So for now... perhaps what Google and Amazon are doing isn't too bad. I place more fault with the automotive industry for lobbying against public transportation just to keep consumers dependent on gasoline and cars.
