      That and the road conditions make the semis flipped and make cars spin out

    I made a delivery in Sioux Falls, SD on 12/28/19. I knew the storm was coming but I was able to reload in Mitchell and get out of there ahead of it.

    It’s not the people drive stupid sometimes the Highwinds with high profile vehicle like 18 wheelers and RVs they get blown off the road when it’s icy

      I’ve hauled furniture through here, with 16,000 in the box.. wind speeds gusting up to 60 and snow drifts.. Hit the 4 ways and gear it down, slow it down and keep on rolling.. I didn’t mind I-90... I hated hitting Hwy 212 HAHA!!

      bill2526 bill2526 Nah.. I ain’t no steering wheel holder that’s for sure.. Can I be an idiot sometimes?? ohh yeah.. did I ever mention that I didn’t stop if it got bad? No sir I didn’t, but you go assuming.. When it got bad I did stop BUT I KNOW MY COMFORT LEVEL, you DONT!!! When my trailer starts swaying and I see daylight between my tires and asphalt, I’m parking it, if I can still handle it at a slow speed, I’m gonna go as long as the road is open!!

    0:34 A few weeks ago I was driving on a 2-lane country road that had glare-ice like that, and wind like that, and my lightweight car was almost being blown clear off the road even though I had slowed down to a crawl. I saw a line of cars that were coming up quickly behind me, so I pulled off onto the wind-side snow-covered gravel shoulder to let them pass. They just flew by me at high speed! I noticed how on the snow I had control back again, so I continued driving on the snow instead of on the road, for another 5 miles until I could turn off onto a larger less ice-covered road. Sometimes it is better to drive on the snow than it is to drive on the road when there is ice (and I have really good winter tires on too, but they don't help much on wet ice).

    • @tarnsand440
      @tarnsand440 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So true..nothing works on ice. I lived in northern Canada surrounded by forest for many years. Temps usually don't vary much..never had a zero visibility blowing snow drive out of town due to dense forest. Now live on the prairie where highway conditions in winter change every 20 kms.

    The best advice for winter weather driving like that is to not even try to drive in it. Stay home. It's not worth your own safety or anyone else' s safety to risk driving in conditions like this.

      @@brazillady5119 Because they usually get on the road when it's icy and go 90 mph on the highway thinking 4WD means it won't slide on the ice. They usually end up flipped over in a ditch or causing a pile up.

Either using 2 lanes on highway and in city limits with their huge motorhomes towing an suv. We've seen way too many who should be flying down south instead for everyones' safety.

      Tarn Sand - But who knew a 5th wheel would stay in one piece like that? Had to have a serious metal frame, I’ve seen a few similar accidents, and many don’t handle torque like that, they bust up into dozens of pieces with wood everywhere.

    • @suesmith5746
      @suesmith5746 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They do close them when they get BAD. This was just winter out here. Many people would lose their jobs or at least not get paid if they stayed home and did not do their jobs. I drove in stuff like that and worse for 57 winters never had an accident or went in ditch except 2 times on purpose to avoid being smashed by an out of control idiot. But only drive on roads you know well when the visibility drops, slow down, use your engine not your brakes, and do not listen to radio talk to anyone, 100% of your attention must be on the road and on all the drivers around you. It is nice to be retired and allowed to stay home now. Also as a young driver practice in empty parking lots, gradually gain experience before you try combining ice, wind and low visibility.
