      Hello. We use American buttercream to crumb-coat the cake, which helps the sugar paste to stick to the cake. To stick the sugar paste to each other, we use a little water. Hope this helps.🙂 Merci 🧡

      As to covering the whole cake with fondant, I did not have to put any coz the fondant would stick to the buttercream crumbcoating. On the other hand, I brush a thin layer of water to stick fondant to fondant.

      It is a bit difficult to work on fondant in hot and humid weather. Ironically, in our experience it's also a bit difficult to work on fondant when it is raining. Best thing to do is work on fondant in an air conditioned room, but if this is not possible, you would need to use a lot of constarch an be able to work on it fast.

    • @ArtCakes
      @ArtCakes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. No, I did not lift the car a little. I just made a slanted trim of the edge inwards(around 8 mm from the board) creating a little space from the outer edge and the board. It becomes more emphasized after covering it with fondant 'coz then you cut the fondant a few millimeters above the board making it look like its above ground.

    What did you use for the silver details? and the tail lights? but more the silver details, did you use edible glitter or airbrush food coloring? or ????

    • @ArtCakes
      @ArtCakes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. For the tail lights, I used red fondant. Normally, for the silver details, I'd use silver airbrush food coloring or silver non toxic luster dust (or highlighter) mixed with gin(or vodka). Since I ran out of both, for this car cake, I actually, used pearl sheen airbrush food coloring mixed with a tiny bit of black airbrush food color. Just enough to make it silver. So either of these 3 options would do. I hope this helps.

    Can I use Red food colour instead of red fondant??

    • @ArtCakes
      @ArtCakes  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you mean mixing red food color on white fondant, you can. But in my experience it's quite difficult to get it really red. Somehow it just comes out dark pink and if I put too much red food color, the fondant becomes a bit salty. Then again maybe it's just the brand of food color available here. If you want it in red, I would recommend using red fondant.

      @@fathimasahana4546 Unlike gel food color, which we usually use for buttercream where too much red would make the taste a bit bitter and too much black makes it a bit salty, I haven't noticed any change in taste as far as liquid black food color used for airbrush is concerned. I'm not sure about the liquid red though. I don't have liquid red at the moment. How much would something like that cost?

    • @ArtCakes
      @ArtCakes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here in Cebu Philippines, it sells for at least p 3200. Probably higher in Manila, ironically lower in the provinces 'coz not too many would go for it at that price. Definitely much higher in other countries which I think is due to the appreciation for the work involved and 'coz they can afford it. It really depends on where it's made.

      I did not chill this one before carving it but you may. It's actually easier to carve if it's chilled 'coz there is resistance. The knife wouldn't have to deal with the soft or cushion property of the cake when slicing.

    The fondant that you covered the cake with, was it done one day prior. I mean all the fondant work can we do one day prior and keep?

    • @ArtCakes
      @ArtCakes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The fondant we currently use, including the one we used for this car cake, are ready to roll fondant commercially available. Although, at the time when we still make our own fondant, we do make them a day before we're going to use them to allow it time to firm up to our liking. Plus, the weather plays a big role. It's usually a disaster if it rains. Ready to roll fondant made it easier for us.

    • @ArtCakes
      @ArtCakes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And yes, other fondant work, like the wheels and the spoiler can be done a day or two ahead of time.

    • @ArtCakes
      @ArtCakes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      By my estimate, probably around 3 to 4 hours. That is, from carving the cake to until its completely done. The detailing is what actually takes more of the time. I think when I made one for the first time, it took me the whole day. About 8 hours or probably more. Back then I had to carve it free hand without stencils so it took quite long.

      I'm not really sure what you mean coz I don't speak hindi but if I understood it right, you're asking about the fondant's color, where I got them or what kind, and what cream I used. Well if I got it right, for this car I used ready to use white fondant made by Bakel's which is available in baking stores here in the Philippines. And I used buttercream to crumbcoat the cake before I covered it with fondant. I use buttercream most of the time for fondant. I hope this helps.
