    I have had them replace a 17 year old LSA covered 1/2" hammer drill and MULTIPLE batteries from that kit. It was bought right when the LSA program started. My now deceased wife bought the kit for me back in 2003 and it came with a lifetime warranty. BUT you had to have the receipt. She put the receipt in sealed plastic and its still like new all these years later. They thought they had me when they said I needed proof of purchase because the online LSA did not exist at that time. You should have seen their face when I whipped out that receipt from 2003. Their mouths hit the floor. One of the guys said" how the hell do you have a receipt from 2003" LMAO... That was in 2019. If you do the paperwork right and take the broken tool to the nearest Home Depot with a tool rental, they will stand behind the LSA.

      I'm surprised they honored it, because they didn't have to. A tool from 2003 will have long since been discontinued, and thus not applicable to the LSA, which is a warranty for the production lifespan of the tool.

    In my experience, 3rd party approved service shops are a much better option over HD. If you have HD service the tool, they don’t actually repair anything on-site, and a good chunk of that 6-8 weeks (and yes, it will take at least that long) is shipping. I had my first LSA experience with HD and was not happy. 2nd time around chose a local guy who was approved by Ridgid and it was fixed in a little under 2wks.

    • @TheExcellentLaborer
      @TheExcellentLaborer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s what I understood too is that they ship it out. I think they said Atlanta. So are you getting tools that are fixable by local people? The wait time is the reason you don’t like the LSA?

    • @trevorbraun2574
      @trevorbraun2574 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheExcellentLaborer I'm just a homeowner who is inclined to do most of the work on my house myself, so I'm not really loosing out on anything if my driver or saw is out of commission for a few weeks. I've had relatively good luck with the LSA so far, in that every tool I've had to fix has been 100% free in the end. I just generally don't recommend using HD for the repairs if you have another option in your area.
      Not only is it faster, but there's usually no deposit required either.
      For anyone who depends on their tools to make a living, I agree with one of the other comments that if you plan on taking advantage of the LSA, you have to have at least two of all the basics... you'll end up with two of whatever breaks anyways, because I can't imagine anyone would put off work for multiple weeks to save $100 on a drill...

    • @TheExcellentLaborer
      @TheExcellentLaborer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@trevorbraun2574 Yes that makes sense. If you don’t need your tools do you actually earn your income on the daily it’s OK to wait. That is interesting about getting it done somewhere else other than Home Depot if it’s faster. I build houses on my days off from my regular job so I’m kind of in the middle to where I need them all the time and don’t need them all the time. I do kind of have a back up set of Dewalt 18 V. So those could hold me over while the other things are getting fixed

    I bought that exact same impact driver about 1.5 years ago and that was the only Ridgid tool I ever returned out of pure dissatisfaction. There is no normal/regular mode on that impact driver that drives a screw like a regular impact driver. Although it states "6 modes" it's really only 3 modes. They count reverse in each of the three modes as 4, 5, 6. All 3 modes are specialty situation modes. The first one is for driving short screws that you dont want to over drive and strip - like sheet metal roofing screws with the rubber seal on them. It drives in short bursts. To drive a regular 3" decking screw, you have to pump the trigger 3 times to finish driving the screw. The 2nd mode is for removing damaged screws or screws that you don't want to strip while backing out. It starts out with a slow tik - tik - tik then gradually speeds up. Even though it's for removing screws it is not good at removing long screws that require power/torque to begin backing out. The 3rd mode is really pointless b/c it starts out driving like a normal impact but when the tension reaches a certain point it begins to slow down to prevent you from over driving the screw. If you drive a 3-inch #10 decking screw, it drives the screw to about halfway then suddenly begins to slow down instead of staying at a constant speed/torque and allowing you to finish driving the screw. If you let off the trigger and pump trigger again it resets but the problem with that is that your screw is halfway embedded in a board and when you try to drive a screw that's already in the wood that far you will often jump your bit out of the screw head and strip the hell out of your screw. I can't tell you how many times my buddy was holding the end of a heavy 18ft 2x12 and I'm driving the screw on the opposite end and suddenly it slows down and then I strip the screw trying to finish driving it. I could not believe Ridgid made an impact driver that retarded that only has specialty modes and no regular mode. I thought I was missing something and read the instruction manual like 3 times trying to find out how to engage a regular mode only to find out there is none. That was the most stupid engineered impact driver I have ever seen. I own the Ridgid 12" miter saw, miter saw stand, impact driver, hammer drill, reciprocating saw, multi -tool, jigsaw, and vacuum cleaner and that was the only one I ever took back to the store. I am curious to know how that impact driver made it to development.

    I agree with what TCI said. Alot of "ford is better Chevy is better" responses on here. All these tool brands are good tools. I have a new makita, ridgid and Milwaukee drill set...because i love tools. I took the drills apart of of curiosity and seriously they all have basically the same parts. TTI makes milwaukee and ridgid in the same plant. I use qll these drills everyday. Not one of them has broken and there is not a damn nickels worth of difference between the performance. The fact is this. People will hate a brand just because its not the one they use. Plain and simple!

    1) how long took you to have problem with both tools? 1 year, 6 months, etc..?

    Thanks

    I've used the LSA once. The deposit made me scratch my head too. I think it basically covers the shipping in case they determine the tool was abused and won't be covered under warranty. Beyond that it took less than two weeks from the time I dropped it off until they called me to say it was repaired. I wouldn't be surprised to see them change the program as a result of COVID - and allow you to send it directly to them so they can minimize people coming into the stores.

      I get your concern and not sure where you saw 2 months. My experience is a couple of weeks. Also get your title to add some emphasis to the video, but what happens when you break the DeWalt tool? Your video makes it seem like DeWalt tools don’t break and don’t have to be sent off for warranty. They do a similar warranty process which requires proof of purchase and send the tool in to get repaired. So either brand will take some time to get your functional tool back. By the look of your tools, they get used often. Would be a good time as TH-camr to go to another battery platform and have a set for backup. Thanks for the good content on your channel!

      I’m sure you have more than hand saw hanging around the job site. But what if the tool was a 1” drive that costs 1150 out the door. Do I care about saving money on repair, or the speed of getting the tool back to the job site? I’m not going to have another 1” cordless drive hanging around the job site, so in this case speed is critical to finish the job in a timely manner.
