  • Light Pollution disrupts nature, affects human health, and results in energy waste. In this webinar, Susan will discuss the economic and environmental impact of light pollution and offer solutions to ineffective, wasteful, harmful to flora and fauna and obtrusive outdoor lighting.
Susan Harder is a retired resident of East Hampton and 25 year “dark sky” advocate, working to reduce the effects of “light pollution” (glare, overlighting, misaimed fixtures, and unnecessary night lighting).
As a trained lighting designer (Illuminating Engineering Society) she evaluates lighting plans and proposed legislation and guidelines for municipalities, and has locally for East Hampton Town and Village, Southampton, Suffolk County, North Haven, Sagaponack, Sag Harbor, Islip, Riverhead and Brookhaven. The Long Island Sierra Club awarded Susan the Environmentalist of the Year for her important advocacy.

Red bulbs are best where fireflies may be nesting. Yellow adversely affects them.
