  • Wake9.com loves to review great wakesurf boats, but this was special. 5 model years in a row that outperformed the previous year. That is no small feat and we are proud to spend our time wakesurfing in our Supra.

    Another awesome video from Wake9! I am trying to add wake surfing to our family's lake activities and strongly considering a SA450. Went to a boat show recently, and the Supra really sells itself. Beautiful boat with a lot of standard features for the price. However, I was surprised by how much negativity I heard from other manufacturers on Supra. Tige' reps were telling me the Autowake system, being gyroscope-based, is awesome on smooth water, but instantly loses itself in minor chop and especially rough water. Also said there were issues with the motor and transmission. I think his quote was "Supra's spend more time in the shop than on the water." Malibu reps were saying with the Autowake adjusting ballast levels to maintain neutral position, the pumps are running constantly and pump impeller wear is a huge issue, and not covered by warranty. Nautique took high road with no negative selling. Sadly, no Centurions on hand to check out. Just wanted to hear if you have any thoughts, or anything to add since you have real world experience with these boats for several years. (My thought - sounds like sour grapes and these reps were trying to knock Supra off the mountain.) Considering the SA/SL 450, Malibu MXZ23, Nautique GS22, and Centurion Fi23.
    Thanks for being such a great resource for Newbies trying to figure out all this stuff. Your channel is very helpful.

      I think some of your comment got cut off. They are wrong about autowake. I use it all the time, the first year I didn't use it most of the time, but the last 2 years, I use it by default. Come out for a ride, happy to show you.

    I’m shocked that not one person has brought up on how far back they are surfing and not just a leisurely surf but an all out shred fest 20 plus feet back. Most manufacturers when surfing you are literally 2 feet away from the swim platform. Blows my mind. I need that in my life. I have a 18 Malibu and have never been able to surf that far back even when my bow is slammed with lead wake bags which we all know is dangerous in a Malibu due to not enough freeboard and easily swamped. I hope Malibu changes the overall design and addresses freeboard.

    Anyone else notice the Malibus are suspiciously absent? they go through a nautique, tige, even a supreme(joke), but no malibus. One small mention, but my 13 bu with surf gate was able to transfer instantly and the wave was much better than non surf gate boats even within Malibu. My 13 was doing all these things without autowake. I have had supra bros ask, does it have autowake? No, doesn't need it. I have no need to list my boat at all. I fill all ballast to 100% and the surf gate transfers in 1.5 seconds. The wave is just ready and has been since 2013.
    That being said, good work on the app. I do appreciate how it can be to dial in a wave.

    • @wake9tv
      @wake9tv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have tested the surf gate on bus and axis boats. They def did not work great the first couple years for several well known reasons. I do like the boat, and loved the older 23LSV hull, I think I have a video where we road behind a custom 23LSV that was amazing. However, we have seen a lot of quality issues from bu in recent years. They have been a part of our PB videos at times, but they usually don't want to participate.

    • @Travis8126
      @Travis8126 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kudos to Supra for brining a contender to the wakesurf market, I owned one back in 2008 (22SSV) when they were not so great and had issues. However, as Ryan Berka mentioned Malibu innovated the surf system in 2013 with Surfgate and the Malibu 23/25LSV are still to date the top selling boats in the industry for a reason. No offense to Robert at wake9 but he said all this about Tige' prior to moving over to Supra. We can all figure out what drives the reviews from him. So educate yourself and be aware Supra was not his first boat review that he raved about.

    • @4liter

      Travis D easier to setup, burns more fuel, and rated for capacity without ballast. Surf gate is sweet but it’s definitely not the only metric.
      We’re weighing a 22MXZ and SA as our next upgrade and surf gate does work really well. But from what I’ve seen the new Supra interiors are way better, don’t have to add bags like the Bu, and reliability goes to Skier’s Choice among the guys at my boat club. Actually seen two Malibu buy-backs in the last couple years there.
      And as a owner/driver that doesn’t get much water-time, Autowake is amazing for wakeboarding. Even with a novice driver pulling me, they just have to point the boat straight. No moving ballast or people towards wash or anything. Set roll to 0deg and it’s clean for me every time no matter what. 👍🏼

      2013 lsv 1000lb plug and play bags. Add 300lbs up front when nobody is up there. Surfs great. Transfers no problem. Pushy, flat, whatever. Definitely a learning curve to using a wakeboarding boat properly.

      I had that boat Scott. First, you need a "suck gate" such as swell or other brand. Put that about 1 foot from the rear of the boat on the opposite side of the surf wake. Next, get 1100 pound sacks for the rear lockers. Fill the surf side 100%, opposite side about 40% - 50%, and front 100%. We went 11.4 mph. Wake was good. The suck gate wake shaper made a huge difference. You can't do it without that.
