The vocal version comes from this album TELMAK (TMAK-082) 20 Greatest Hits - Tony Hatch & Jackie Trent (1983). Click here for the instrumental off-air copy th-cam.com/video/i2k70axGa_Q/w-d-xo.htmlm55s

Bruton Music supplied the tracks "And I Love Her", "Back In The USSR", and "Downtown" to Channel 4 on the LPs ART1 and ART2, from Airtime Records. The Beatles tracks came off an LP by the Steve Gray Orchestra, so it's possible that Downtown might be a Steve Gray production too.

Hi Tommy and thanks for the information. I did contact Tony Hatch last year with my off-air instrumental version. He confirmed it was himself and the Tony Hatch Orchestra that performed these tracks. So far no luck on the instrumental! Though it was done during the same recording session as this song. Do you have anymore information regards AIRTIME RECORDS? Many thanks again.

+magicgeezer Sorry I don't... my copy of Steve Gray's Beatles Orchestral LP is a BBC Radioplay copy. Maybe try writing to obscure independent radio stations?

Very interesting! Has the instrumental version of this ever been tracked down in stereo?
