- Now that Mariah has announced her upcoming tour for this holiday season, let’s take a look at her live performances of "Hero" (one of her most iconic songs!) over the past season. Happy #musicbox30 btw!
In the process of making this video, I feel that I've gotten to know Mariah’s current voice much better. In my honest opinion, it’s heavily flawed and probably near the worst it's ever been, but it’s still far from being trash/nonexistent as some people claim. Besides, the variation between good and bad days is HUGE, so at her best, she can still do some pretty amazing stuff. Still, I hope Mariah will be able to render this video obsolete once she returns to the stage later this year!

I think the biggest problem that she's hardly had struggled in the whole song and only the climax since about 2017. However since the citizens event it seems all over from start to finish of the song.
I actually think her best hero performance is the citizen's and have been worse since. She's just second guessing her voice throughout any performance. Where as if you look at even a 2020 the fluidity is there and she knows what she wants to do and it largely comes out. The problem only occur in the climax. But they're all over here.
I wish she'd jusy accept it and lower the song by another 2 semi tones. We would get more attempts than we ever will trying it in than she ever will this key.
She's just stubborn i think but I love here and you can still hear that gorgeous voice at times but they become more and more fleeting
Thank you! This is beautifully stated, and I completely agree. Up until the early 2020 at-home performance of Hero everything was still going well. Even when she returned to the stage in 2022 with Global Citizen and the Banyan tree event (same month), she still had confidence and made all the necessary attempts, trying to be as fluid as possible even though she was in obviously worse condition. But her performance of this song started to devolve greatly around the time of the Christmas tour. Now she just relies on the three C5s and a sustained Bb4 adlib here and there to make sure the performance is still impressive. We can only hope that she either finds more confidence with a lowered key or dedicates more of herself to the song (it is its 30th anniversary, after all).

When you have someone who has sang on key on pitch for almost all of their career and then have issues vocally,yes the world will bring them down that’s how it’s always been,just like the moron who commented above this comment,singers never get a break,but best believe Mariah before vocal issues would sing their fave under any table and then some without a break❤

I'm nervous too but still kind of excited. Her voice is such an engima.
@@butterdream what scares me as that she's now lipping literally everything this year from obsessed to vision of love, she's gonna have several lip syncing mishaps and her voice really isn't in good condition. She's struggling with basic phrasing and it's so choppy. I'm scared she's gonna make herself look bad again 😭
@@ryanallen8455I'd say even the excessive use of whistle has gone too that she had. I wonder if that's also becoming a problem. But I really want her to be back to something resembling late 2019 but I just know she won't be. Cause the actual health of the voice may be there but she's clearly lost all confidence in the voice. Like not one "higher than the heavens above" was attempted in any way. But let not write her off.
But the killer thing is when we use rainbow to compare and praise. Yeah over the last 2 years I've realized that rainbow is a bit better than it's given credit for but I certainly wouldn't be comparing to and praising again one of her most tired eras ever

what i love about her is that her musicality never leaves her. because it doesnt have so much to do with her voice than it does with her mind ...so that always stays and its always beautiful!! for example 0:29 ...that "are" gives me chills!
Yes, Mariah Carey has definitely NOT lost her voice. She can still do some amazing stuff with it. You can't expect it to be as great as it was in her prime-she has already proved herself! After singing such extremely difficult songs like Emotions and Vision Of Love for 10+ years, I think everybody knows what to expect! I mean, such extremely difficult is such an understatement of those songs' real difficulty! The fact that she can still slay vocals when it's a good day itself is shocking.

There were at least three live C5s from what we have, and they were all pretty on pitch unlike France/Pride from earlier this year, which each had at least one very flat C5. She also sounded more fluid in some parts compared to the Pride performance, more reminiscent of France.
Though overall Banyan tree is still my favorite Hero performance of 2022-2023 because of the gorgeous vibrato and agility
@butterdream She needs to lower down the keys so she can sound better.... 😢 it sounds so strained and forced. Normally your voice gets deeper as you grow older, but she's literally forcing her vocals to sing like she did in the 90's it sounds so painful.. :(
@butterdream she's bringing her larynx up higher and higher and it sounds so chipmunky, if she continues even further the damage will be even worse... The tone might be completely gone in 1-2 years.
