I live in Pennsylvania I drove all the way across the state today to go get a 6800 amplifier and then I drove all the way to New Jersey and bought that TX 6800 tuner I’m an old Stereo had never had any of this equipment I’m in love this stuff is awesome awesome video incredible
Thankx Michael, more than for its sonics this collection has great sentimental value. It represent a time where music was a treat to listen to, as well as to look at.. 😅
Hi Jeffrey, indeed it was. That was the solo reason for me to assemble this system. There is still one piece missing a SPEC 2 Power amp, you let me know if you spot a 220v hanging around ;)
+crventura My wife loves Portugal. She stayed there a few days on the way back to the US from Angola. She really wants me to go back with her and now I have a reason! May I come play with yours toys?
He he ... Sure you can, you wold be more than welcome. I live in nice place called Aroeira at 5 mn walk from the caparica beach. Let me know when the flight is booked ;) Cheers
Hi crventura, amazing system not only for the sound quality but for its historical value to audio lovers. I am happy that you took the effort to maintain such a vintage system that means a lot to us who were young kids back then in the 80s. I am interested to know if you tried pairing your Pioneer electronics with some modern non Pioneer speakers and what your impressions are. Thanks for sharing your systems with us! Moussa

Very nice setup! But, if this is your "beach rig", what is your serious listening system like? I'm doing something similar but on a much lower scale... still, when one of my tube amps is down for maintenance or repairs, I've got a silver-faced system to turn to... Thanks for posting this remarkable system! atb - Luther
Hi Luther, thank you for your kind words. It is a very nice system but uncómparable to my other two systems. Check my channel. You will find a Naim active system and my main system the DBL/Soulution/DCS ;) Cheers Carlos
Very nice my uncle had a Mitsubishi vintage silver system full rack..with two extra custom speakers. .I just wish I had it.. but it was passed down to his son.. and son passed it to his sister. . now I don't know what happened to it? when I asked my cousin about it she told me her husband and friends blew it out? which I don't believe that. she knows am interested in it?
Lovely system...really enjoy your videos. Would you mind giving up the brand/model of lamp used over the tt? I've been looking for something similar without luck... Thanks!
Hi this was veeeery hard to find. I could find one on a local furniture store called "Casa", not sure where they imported it from but its china made for sure ;) Cheers
Very nice! Hi, I have “all” components to build “Blue line” rack . Rt-909,CT-F1250,TX-7800,CT-F950,RG-2,DT-500,SR-303,SG-9800and SA-8800 . How to connect them in ONE system? Please help ,where I can found Schematics for wiring . Thank you very much! Best regards!
Hi Evgeny, its very simple really, You connect the open reel to tape 2 on the Pre, and connect the Equalizer to tape 1. the tape deck goes on tape 2 input/outputs on the Equalizer. Now the tricky part; on the EQ tape 1 in, you connect the dynamic expander out and on the Dynamic Expander in you connect the reverb unit out. Finally the Reverb unit in gets the EQ out .This way you have the three units daisy chained and you can use de defeat switch on every one to check the effect on each one. Hope that helps ;)
Very nice system! Do you mind me asking how you have the Dynamic Processor, the EQ and the R2R connected and in what order? I have had some suggest through the tape loop with EQ first, RG second and R2R last in the loop. Thoughts? I have SX-1050, RG1, EQ-9500, RT-707. Thx.
Hi Jose, Thankx. I set this system a few years back I cannot really recall the sequence I use. My guess is (While using the Preamp second tape loop), Dyn processor first, echo processor second end EQ last as it puts some coloration to the signal. The reel to reel was on the first tape loop, of that I'm sure Best
Hi ThatManLam, We are listening to a very rare recording of the Dizzy Gillespie Trio, live at the Montreal Jazz Fest. The trio is composed of: Dizzy (Trumpet), Toots Thielemans (Guitar) and Bernard Purdie (Drums); One of the best jazz drummers of all times, if you ask me ;) Enjoy !!
Hi Peter, that little bugger is called a Resonator, built by a German manufacturer called Finite Element. This gadget converts energy basically. It transforms vibration in heat, this way the electronics are less exposed to vibration. The frames and the amplifier table, are from that brand. Underneath each shelf, they put four Resonator units each one tuned to its own frequency. Its a nice tuneup gadget I tell you that ;)
***** I have never heard of this before. Very interesting though. I will have to look into it. Could you say something about how such a vintage Pioneer system performes compared to modern HIFI systems? Will I have to buy a high end system today to match it sound-wise? I'm asking because I have been considering buying a vintage system of some sort (could well be a Pioneer) as they are more affordable than new system. Also they often look better. Thanks
***** Hi Peter, what I'm about to say may start a war but I'm in to this for such a long time that I think I'm entitled to; Lets start with the content, a few years back when these systems came out, we use to listen to music, nowadays most of what we ear is crap. Now, if we're to listen to crap why have a sophisticated system to play it ? In my opinion thats what all the mid market manufacturers had in mind when they produce they're current line of equipments. Simply put; Crap to play Crap ;) That being said how they compare, well, they don't, today if you're looking for a good sounding system you have to spend a lot of cash (check my other systems), If you go main stream you get ... Crap. Now on the mid 80´s manufacturers like Denon, Sony, Onkyo, Akay, Nikko, Sound Craftman and a few others they were rely up to build some serious good sounding devices cos at that time people did give a shit about what they were listening to. If yo ask me, I would prefer 10 times a classic system to a mid market one. Now there is a catch with these vintage systems; with 20-30 years of usage the condensers are way past they're "bed time" and that is no good, one other important thing (but not difficult) is to find better OP Amps, any recent OP Amp have a much lower background noise.... Well I could go on and on, but to cut a long story short, go for the vintage system and have the power supply condensers replaced as well as all the OP Amps you can ;)
***** Hi crventura, Thanks for the advice. Just a couple of questions. As I'm no expert, would you please explain what the OP amps are? You write in the video that you have fitted new caps on the SPEC 4 and SPEC 1. Is there any particular reason for this? Sorry if this is a silly question. I am not an expert in HIFI, but since I want to build a vintage system, I need all the information I can gather from the ones who know. Thanks.
***** Hi Peter, OP Amps are those little transistors that amplify the signal inside each unit, even cassette decks have them. The Capacitors after 20-30 years cannot hold the charge as good as they use to when new, so they should be replaced after 20 years for sure. Now, if I we're to build a vintage system I wouldn't go for this pioneer line, I would probably go for Marantz ... ;)
WOW!!! Do you know any seller who sells replicas or has changes for the knobs of a SA 9500? The two big ones, they look like the SPec 1 ones. Thanks in advance anyway! Mike
I should dig deeper, hopefully I'll find something.. by the way.. FANTASTIC collection!! I love that era from Pioneer. I have the HPM 100s and the SA 9500. The amp would me mint except from a tiny but visible (if you look for it) scratch on both the bigger knobs. They annoy me, you can understand. Thanks for the video and the kindness! Mike
By elevating the cable from the ground, they reduce the influence of the ground source on the electrons flow inside de cable. It's not a noticeable thing on this system but very noticeable on my main system. You get a much better defined stage and air and lower background noise ;)
Never thought on attaching a price tag to this system, for me it’ only has sentimental value 😊 But I tell you, in 78 this complete system here in portugal was retailed by the same price of two mid priced apartments. No plans on getting an 8 track cos this series never had one, but I’m missing one Spec 2 power amp, I only have the spec 4 😬
Hi Tim, these are the Pagode racks from Finite Element. A German company that went bankrupt a couple of years back. I’ve heard they are coming to live again. But be prepared these are expensive. I bought these new at a price of 8K€ each. Best

Beautiful setup, impressive.
Absolutely spectacular!!
Maybe Pioneer was not a SUPER DUPER brand , but their products were excellent. have few of them and love it !
Great system and great inspiration!!
Excellent! This was just about every high school boys dream circa 1979! It was mine then and still is now!

Hi Moussa, Nop I never did. What I did try was to connect these HPM's to a Spectral power amp, they sounded great :)

Great system ❤️
God back in the day I thought it was great listen to a friend's Sansui or a single McIntosh but that's incredible
Hi crventura, very nice system. I was wondering what those puck shaped things are that I see sitting on top of a few of the components in the video?
Hi Ryan, those are resonators from finite element a German company. They convert vibration in heat 😉
I'm gonna end up like you some day.
