I feel like mental time travel to “the same place” could be pretty anticlimactic since the solar system and galaxy are also moving through space so you’d end up staring at empty space 😂 (ooo or if another plant happens to be there, that would be super cool)

This was one of the first books that i read, and the premise of traveling back In time grabbed me immediately! In true Daphne DuMaurier fashion, her protagonist is not a perfect person, but none the less, you can't help but want to follow along with him. I love Daphne DuMauriers stories because she has a way of sneaking in information to her stories that makes the reader think twice.

"House on the Strand" is a brilliant novel by Daphne du Maurier - it deserves to be made into a thriller movie or TV-series ;-)
You can listen to a radio theatre version of it here on TH-cam.
The intriguing thing is that the members of these 14th century nobility families in Cornwall are actually based on real people - you can actually look them up. I guess DdM simply "forgot" to ask them for their permission, before she involved them in her intrigues, fantasy affairs and evil plots ;-)

Not continuing with the Age of Assassins Series is the right decision in my opinion - Personally, I loved the first but was fairly disappointed by the following two, unfortunately (I got through the second but DNFed the third...)

Hi Merphy, I mainly fallow One Piece and I've enjoyed your reviews, plus I love Harry Potter. I was wondering if you've ever read Taran Matharu Summoner series. After I finished Harry Potter this was the next big series I read that made me want to reread it. Thanks for your time.

The Bone Ships by R.J. Barker is also excellent. And it's about pirates! Kinda.

Assassin series remind me of a Writing Excuses episode. I don't remember which one, but the guest speaker was mentioning the story of a girl growing up on the streets and had to become an assassin to survive. And his response, as a way to prod thought about worldbuilding and narrative questions, was "Why? Couldn't she become a baker?"
So now I want an assassin-style book, but instead of a killer the main character becomes a baker, which is treated just as seriously as becoming an assassin.

Age of Assassins is a hit or miss, unfortunately it was a miss for me. The way it's written irks me even though I know it's written how it would be spoken at that time. DNF around chapter 10
