- Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has announced that he will run for the presidency in the 2022 General Election.
Odinga, 76, made the announcement at Kasarani Stadium on Friday, December 10, after several months of speculation about his candidature in the upcoming polls. “I ask for nothing, and I will never ask for anything, except the opportunity to serve,” he said during his speech in Kasarani Stadium.
The former prime minister said he will prioritise, among others, unity agenda, teachers' welfare, national healthcare, employment and economic recovery. “Peace-making is not a self-enriching enterprise, it is a blessing from God," he said.
This marks the fifth time the ODM chief is taking a stab at the presidency after four previous failed bids in 1997, 2007, 2013 and 2017.
Odinga’s wife Ida, during her speech at Kasarani Stadium, said she had “surrendered” her husband to Kenyans.

1. INUA JAMII, Pesa Mfukoni is a social protection programme that will deliver Ksh6, 000 per month to two million of the country’s most needy families.
2. BABA CARE, will scale up the Universal Health Care pilot programmes to the rest of the country. We want a Kenya where no one will ever have to wonder if they can afford to save their child’s life, get treatment for their ailing grandparents or manage a chronic disease.
3. KAZI KWA WOTE: This is about securing the welfare of the people by generating avenues for productivity, through job creation programs, investing in the critical jua kali sector and other macro and microeconomic stimulation schemes.
4. UCHUMI KWA AKINA MAMA: This will focus on the true multipliers of wealth in our community; our women. The programme will unlock access to financing for women-led businesses and provide support for women on other enabling factors.
5. “HASHTAG INAWEZEKANA”: The program will equip our youth with the mindset, skills, funds and technology to enable them to innovate at par, and even surpass their global counterparts.
6. “WASTE NOT A SINGLE CHILD” This programme will be an aggressive scheme to ensure that all, not some of our children, get rightful access to quality education.
7. FUKUZA NJAA: The aim here is not to merely feed, but to generate the agricultural bounty that Kenya has the potential to produce.
8. MAJI KWA KILA BOMA.. The program will radically reverse the artificial shortages and high cost of water, particularly for the poor.
9. ONE COUNTRY ONE PRODUCT: is designed to be a launchpad to a Kenya which consumes its products, exports excesses and registers surpluses, not deficits.
10. THE PRINCIPLE OF ADMINISTRATIVE CONTINUITY building and improving on the gains that have been made by the administrations that came before.
