    I truly love and admire how you value the small moments in life ❤ enjoying nature, friends and family and finding new ways to grow is so wonderful. Also I had to stop looking at my phone in the morning for the same reason too and I completely agree I feel so much better without it. Glad you’re doing well!

    It makes me happy when I'm spending time with myself, meditating and listening to good music. All of these things make me and my body feel so good in a way that's hard to explain with words. I'm happy when I'm in the moment. Just breathing and enjoying the stillness. Love you Sissel, hope you continue sharing your journey with us.

    So many things I want to comment on today. I loved the energy in the video and little messages you were sharing with us. And please do share your new business journey, I love all the content about it and am verrrry nosy 😅
    When it comes to the tragedy I wanted to share my POV and how your words might have come across to some. I do know that you were coming from a place of love and had only good intentions. We are all humans and finding words for the tragic situation is not easy. Nevertheless I think it’s important to not close your eyes when bad things happen. One, not everyone is in a privileged position to do that because many might be directly affected by it. And two, life unfortunately doesn’t only consists of beautiful moments. The bad parts are part of it and I do think it’s everyone’s responsibility to be as aware as possible. Otherwise change will be immensely painful and hard to achieve. Of course we have the choice on what kind of sources we use, what kind of information we want to look deeper into and watching videos with gruesome scenes by bystanders are not necessary and completely unacceptable. But focusing on gentle news only will result in an environment where everyone only cares about themselves and that’s not self care in my opinion, but ignorance. Of course, this is also just my opinion and not an absolute truth. But I still wanted to share.
    Sending you love 💗

    • @sisselab
      @sisselab  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I love what you say, I absolutely agree. Except, I never want to encourage people to close their eyes, I don’t recall saying that haha. With gentle news I don’t mean positive news, I mean news outlets that’s not plastered in photos of death and horrors but is still informing. There’s many ways to do this and I think it was an important message to people who are really overwhelmed to remember that there are still beauty left. That doesn’t mean to turn a blind eye to tragedy. I do realize I haven’t explained myself good enough in the video, but I hope you understand 💚

      I had a bit of distaste for that portion of the video and I think you did an an awesome job of articulating why. Her response to you makes it seem she didn't mean for it to come across that way though so no hate to Sissel.

    The cyber sickness is so true, I try to stay away from my phone as much as I can too cause it makes me feel physically sick! I agree about the media, I never watch TV anymore and of course I avoid the news. It doesn't matter what else you said and what other people say.... in this you have already far surpassed all other Korea youtubers (i mean the ones i follow) this week. No authentic heartfelt truth from any of them. At least not this week. Maybe next week, but it is already late. And even in your video about happiness, I cried with you. I absolutely adore Sissel and her vlogs and really appreciate everything she does,so I felt a need to comment below this video.
    I agree with Sissel statement,that we can not stay informed of everything happening in the world and should take care of our mind and health.But what I understood this year,being in the center of horrible tragedies happening,is that at the very first place we should stay people and take care of each other,we should educate ourselves for ourselves and to prevent horrible things happening.Escaping the reality isn’t the best helper and unfortunately,it isn’t something you understand immediately.I feel like lots of people who are in difficult situation right now,such as war or Itaewon tragedy need our attention,cause that’s how we are staying people by supporting others,being attentive and kind to each other.
    To grow empathy towards others and let yourself feel a grief for other people without self destruction is where I find a balance,but it can be different for others.❤

    • @sisselab
      @sisselab  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree, but there are many other ways to do that rather than listen to mainstream media or being bombarded with misinformation and gruesome photos on social media. If this is harming our mental health we do more harm than good to the world by continuing to expose ourselves to it. There are so many ways to help and thankfully so many great places to stay informed in a humane and gentle way 💚

    I love your videos and content but as others have pointed out, I had to stop at the part where you were talking about what happened in Itaewon because it felt a little tone deaf. While I think it is indeed important to focus on your own mental health, your speech came out as extremely privileged. Of course some type of medias are better than others, but giving place and staying informed about such tragedies is important, these situations are what real people go through everyday. I don’t know if I explained my opinion well but that’s what I wanted to point out.
    Sending you love!

    • @sisselab
      @sisselab  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I respect your opinion, but I think you’ve misunderstood my point. There are so many ways to stay healthily informed. Social media was absolutely plastered in videos and gruesome photos of victims, that’s not only disrespectful to the victims but also extremely traumatic for someone to see. There’s nothing tone deaf nor privileged about reminding people to take care of themselves and healthily consume media 💚

  • @leaii9068
    @leaii9068 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    I really enjoy your content and the way you bring calmness, however I think it’s really problematic to look for softer media outlets, I understand the intention ofc it is difficult to read and stay informed about topics that are horrible. However it’s within your agency to bring awareness, stay informed and get active. You are in a privileged position and it doesn’t seem like you reflect that very well. A lot of topics (including climate crisis, international politics, war etc) are difficult to deal with, however as someone who has possibilities to participate in change and spreading awareness it is ignorant to remove yourself from these Issues.
    If you look at why news and media are written and portrayed it becomes clear that there also often is an advocacy for change, for example if you compare mainstream media within most democratic countries vs. Unitary one party states (like China for example) you can observe that the media within those states is a lot „softer“ and „positive“, because it discourages strong emotions which will cause actions. So removing yourself from that and looking for other media sources is actually very dangerous. You can do some research on media studies as well as activism and political science, but that opinion is problematic.
    This doesn’t mean that you have to confront yourself with very explicit and gruesome images, but you have to stay informed and aware, most parts of the world still are a harsh reality that cannot be romanticised and some of the marginalised groups or people don‘t have the privilege and opportunities to speak openly, being able to stay informed and think critically is something you should never give up.
    There are other coping mechanisms to use when things get „too much“ but while you are just reading about those topics, for a lot of people it’s their daily life or reality, ignoring that won’t bring any change and you therefore indirectly reinforce these problems. You have responsibility and agency as a person and that’s tough but also a great gift.

    • @sisselab
      @sisselab  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for clarifying your opinion. I completely agree with almost everything you say and I could’ve went deeper to make my point more clear in my video. My point as mentioned is that I strongly believe we should never stay informed at the expense of our mental health. That’s all. There’s a possibility to be informed, healthily, under the circumstances you describe without hurting yourself 💚

    • @leaii9068
      @leaii9068 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay that makes sense, I think it just was a bit unclear for some of us. Thank you for clarifying Sissel and you’re right that is a very valid point. 🧡

    • @hannahsfieldnotes9679
      @hannahsfieldnotes9679 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed. I love her content but had to pause that part of the video and immediately thought about how loved ones of the victims of the tragedy would feel about the statement. I think it’s healthy to disengage from some platforms if it affects you so badly, but I guess the timing was not right and so it comes across as tone-deaf. Maybe it could have been expounded further.
      And while I agree that there are videos about the tragedy that shouldn't have been published, media can cause the demand for accountability from the people who could've done something to prevent the tragedy.
      It’s a balancing act, looking within and looking outside. What if the real self-help is taking care of our mental health and at the same time talking about injustices to help raise awareness and hopefully demand accountability so they won’t happen again? Self-help doesn’t need to end with us. I would have loved to hear something along those lines.

    Dear Sissel. I read some people are not happy about how you've addressed the Itaewon topic and everyone has their own mindset and deals with sorrow/loss differently. Maybe the timing of the vlog has made them feel that way, because many are still suffering.
    But that doesn't mean your vlog content is wrong. It shows YOUR way of dealing with it and you've decided to leave out the Halloween parts you've shot, which in my opinion was the best decision. You've also mentioned how much you were affected emotionally by this terrible tragedy and I can only imagine how heartbroken you must have felt knowing you were close to the area that night and realising the horrors that people were going through (I myself was feeling so empty and sad for days, even though I live far away and haven't been affected personally in any way.). Maybe the viewers wanted you to show all your emotions to the public and because you didn't - this might have rubbed them the wrong way. How they feel is understandable by all means. 💔
    Now I want to talk about this Vlog aside of that. This has to be one of my favorite Vlogs you've made. Why? Because it's about happiness and has comforted me. It's also about grief, but it's about being able to recover from it which is a really hard thing to do, but also essential for your health and wellbeing. It shows: if you give yourself the time to grieve, you'll become happy again. It is an incredible strength within us we don't appreciate enough.
    I absolutely love your thoughts on fullfillment 😌 The following is just sharing my own opinion with you: You know, whenever someone was speculating about the meaning of life I always had a clear answer: Love!! Everything evolves around love. Family, friends, your partner, yourself, your pets etc....But as I got older I realised: Love may be a big romanticized contender. I now believe the true meaning of life is happiness! Because in order to experience the highest feeling of love you need another being. Self love is great, but is it the highest feeling? No, if you love someone or something it is the ultimate form of love. But love can also hurt, love can make you feel bad. And love can also be lost. Happiness on the other hand can be found in the smallest things and unexpected moments. In fact it's always there waiting for you, when you need it. You just gotta find a way to get in touch with it. Even as we get older and until the rest of our lives we are able to find happiness. With, but even without love. And the highest form of happiness is actually within yourself. Isn't it magical?! 😌
    So: thanx for showing us what makes you happy, because it reminds us to look for our own happiness, too💚

    I see a lot of these comments about how you could have rephrased the tragedy, but I would like to show some support for your side of the story.
    I agree with you - from a third party POV. Yes indeed there are true victims and nothing can take away from that. It was a tragedy that can be avoided and may they rest in peace.
    But from a audience / bystander POV, overconsumption of the media about disasters and tragedy HAS an impact on audience lives. I don’t even live in Korea but I see and had searched for happenings of the tragedy for hours days and weeks after the event. Seeing or having that access to actual footage of the event is sufficient to cause PTSD. Yes of course less PTSD via media is NOTHING compared to being in that crowd, but even professionals have said that media viewers from both Korea and internationally have sent warning to audience need to restraint themselves from seeking out footages.
    What I mean is that, it is possible to be affected. Yes we must care for the actual victims, but that doesn’t mean we turn a blind eye to our own mental health.
    And i’m sure Sissel means that too

    Didn't really enjoy this vlog this week becos like you mentioned it didn't come off right but I have watched alot of your videos so I know it wasn't your intention. Happy you were safe and I know you have received alot of negative feedback but you learn and grow from it. Keep going ♥

      I don’t see this feedback as negative, I see it as people expressing their concern and opinions that’s ultimately there for all of us to grow and learn, especially me in this situation. It’s beautiful, especially because everyone is always so nice here, as we all should 💚

So every time we had world's attention the regime was less horrible so hearing the news acctually helps people but i totally agree we should allways put our mental health first .
