    Hi, Bruce. I'm restoring the radio-controlled R2D2 I got for Christmas back in '78 and have it working for the most part (thank you!). I'm seeing something odd and wondered if you could give me some advice. When I push the arrow on the remote for "BODY" to make the leg gears do their thing, it works, but the head also spins around when I'm pushing the BODY button so that all it does is sort of go around (i.e., forward a little, right a little, back a little, left a little) because the head keeps turning, changing the direction continually. Is there anything you can think of that I might be able to do to fix that so that when I'm pushing the BODY button it doesn't make the head spin? Thanks!

      I mentioned the other guys video where his did that at start up. I haven't had that happen to me but my best guess it's maybe there's a problem with the remote. That's just my best guess though without being able to look at it.

    Hi, I've just watched your video for the vintage radio controlled R2D2 repair, which was very informative thankyou. Thanks for pointing out that there’s a screw under the cover on the top of the dome. I have not seen that on the other videos. May I ask you a couple of questions please:
    1) My problem is that I do not have the remote/radio control handpiece. Do you know the frequencies that are used to control the head and body functions? I'm hoping a local car alarm repairman may be able to supply me with something with 2 buttons and 2 frequencies.
    2) This is the first time that I’ve looked at restoring an old toy like this. What do you use to whiten the yellowed plastic? And does it affect the blue or silver paint that is also on the body?
    Thankyou

      I don't have an answer for the remote. However if you really want to whiten your toy you'd have to completely tear it down and soak only the white parts in peroxide in the sun for about two days.. on this particular toy I did not have to do that because it was well kept. There are a lot of videos on TH-cam explaining the peroxide process. Check out toy palloi. He explains it best with some storm troopers if I remember correctly.

      @ Hi Francois, no, unfortunately I did not. It’s a common issue though, so I’m hopeful that the information will appear on the internet one day

    Jenner,I am "trying" to restore on of these bad boys,I have everything working..Body goes forward when remote is pushed,but when I push button for head to turn,I get nothing..Remote noard loks clean and no breaks...Would you lean toward remote??? Like I said,remote works for body but get nothing on head turn,and tested the motor and it is good.

      If you can reach it, try to spin the gear in the head with a toothpick. But it kind of sounds like the problem may be in the remote. Does the light come on when you try to turn the head?

      @@jennercustomtoys well I get nothing when I push the button for the head,no light or sound..motor is good,did pick up a extra R2,and the remote works on that one,so thinking something is up in the guts of R2...Very frustrating...

    Thanks for the video (great job). If I missed it, forgive me, but do you (or anyone) know what frequency the remote works on (MHz?)

    Hi! Thanks! My r2 has this issue where the head also spins constantly without me pressing the head button on remote..it stops spinning when I make it move with the remote. Do you have any idea how to fix the head spinning issue? Many thanks

      @jennercustomtoys  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really... Mine just stopped doing it on it's own. I'm thinking maybe the button on the remote might have been stuck but I'm still not sure

    Um your R2 is missing a wire antenna, there used to be a wire sticking out of the robot itself...

    • @jennercustomtoys
      @jennercustomtoys  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hate to disagree but no, the antenna was only on the remote. Maybe you're thinking of a different version.
