- LEGENDS OF THE OLD WEST presented by Black Barrel Media. Virginia City, Nevada exploded onto the scene in the early 1860s with the discovery of the Comstock Lode, veins of gold and silver that were some of the richest in history. The boomtown attracted a young man who became one of the most famous authors in American literature: Mark Twain. Hear about Twain’s adventures and the early days of saloon life in the first of two collaborative episodes.

Just about a month ago I was in Virginia City and made it a point to drink whiskey in the bucket of blood saloon.
Look out for Houston Boot Co.
He's family and will hand make the best boots you've ever had
That is funny, Mark Twain!
I'd love to see you do episodes on Jerome and Bisbee Arizona.
SAME! Love those towns
And Oatman 🤠
As well as Beautiful Colorado and Utah
I hope you continue to grow. Great content
Every episode in the series that I've watched have been awesome!
Couple of nits to pick, though. Chris kept talking about gold and silver. The amount of gold mined in Virginia city was negligible compared to the silver. Virginia City, like Tonopah, Nevada and Tombstone, Arizona, was a silver town.
And Drew failed to mention one thing. Not that many people in the Old West drank straight whiskey shots. That's another Hollywood creation.
People wanted cocktails. Whiskey mixed with water, milk, fruit juice, whatever they could find. Sure, in the movies, it's always a shot of whiskey. But that wasn't the reality, even in Virginia City.
I remember seeing in tv shows like gun smoke or bonanza where guy takes a shot of whiskey and shows no reaction to it like he was drinking water
@@jamesstackhouse8028 More than likely, those actors are drinking tea out of fake whiskey bottles.
@@carywest9256 or apple juice
Right outside Reno Nevada
I used to like in Tahoe so Virgins City was about 45 min away - its a touristy place now. People dress ip in old clothes but the buildings and saloons are cool. All of Nevada is really wild country and its empty too. More land then people
Damn and I knew the answer to without a hesitation 😂😂😂 fantastic way to take information in with the subtle sound effects 👌
I luv ur videos too! I luv anything I can find about the old west. Can you imagine a millennial transported back in time. First questioned asked: Do you know where the nearest wireless phone store is? Second qeustion: What do you mean you dont have cell phones, where am I going to get all my fake news from? Cowboy answers: What are you talkin' bout boy!?
Now, we all would have a problem goin back to the 1880s but I'd give all the money in my bank account if I could for a week.
After being stationed at Fort Huachuca, AZ, I thoroughly enjoy listening to your podcasts.
Would like to hear about Bisbee
Fantastic! Really enjoyed this podcast episode. Any one know who the music is performed by?
A psychotherapist could make a fortune with this crowd! The first, the marriage of twins to twins seems absolutely normal!
The clemens family pronounced it as "o-ree-in" oreyon.
$60,000
Attempted to steal 15,000 I think they walked away with less than 27 dollars
i live in darby mt. and we as locals hate the yellowstone show.it does not represent what montana is.
I haven’t drunk anything alcoholic for many years, but even the smell of whiskey made me sick. It was like concentrated petrol fumes to me, but each to his/her own. Never liked wine either, beer was my favourite but obviously not any more.
none
Wow this , Could have been a good listen, but after 6 minutes of pure FLUFF CHATTER, I gave up waiting. Pathetic self promotion
