    Brian and Amanda....for us, this video is a keeper. You passed our house in Anacortes on the road to the ferry terminal. We overlook the San Juan Islands and watch the ferries come and go. My mate of 70 years (we are 90) and I have taken visitors to Friday and Roche Harbors many times in the 25 years we have lived here. Be careful....this place is a magical one to retire in...looks like it's already called you back.
    Just imagine waking up and deciding to walk to the ferry for lunch in
    Friday Harbour.....the trip itself through the islands is so worth it.
    We cant travel anymore (age related) so when the urge strikes...I will watch this video over and over again. Thanks for the gift. *Recliner Babe* and her Handsome Prince.

    I know most people know this, but for some of your younger viewers they may not know that William Taft was actually the President at the time and T. Roosevelt was his VP (apologize in advance for feeling a need to say this, but not many people remember William Taft)…anyhooo it was a lovely video and was glad you finally put a hat on 😎🙋‍♀️😊

    • @bevn362
      @bevn362 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Taft was elected president in 1908, the chosen successor of Theodore Roosevelt, but was defeated for reelection in 1912 by Woodrow Wilson after Roosevelt split the Republican vote by running as a third-party candidate. James Schoolcraft Sherman was the 27th vice president of the United States under President William Howard Taft from 1909 until his death in 1912.

    Loved today’s vlog. Friday Harbor, and the island in general are great places to visit/stay. Following your example, I might just see if my wife is up to a “walk on” with our ebikes. We tug a Jeep behind our diesel pusher. That would be much more pleasant that sitting in long lines with our car, both coming and going. It would be much less expensive too. Hopefully your next report will feature LaConner. Love that town too. We camped/stayed at the LaConner Marina while we were there.

    I was stationed at NAS Whidbey Island, which is located in Oak Harbor, in the late 70’s to early 80’s. I used to spend many hours in Anacortes and all around Fidalgo Island. I never realized how nice I had it. Hwy’s 2 and 20 are two of the best motorcycle roads in NW Washington. Now, we live in Vancouver WA. Much nicer than Portland, where we both were born and raised. I love Washington and especially Island county, where the base is located. We’ve been back there many times since.

    It is exciting watching when someone like you visits where we are from! Isn't the Tulalip Casino area amazing!?! Love the Orca fountain. When I did half and full marathons, I did a lot of running in that area. So glad you made it to the SanJuan Islands. The prices sure have gone up. You don't want to know what it would cost to take original Vinny over! Lime Kiln State Park at Friday Harbor is a great spot to see whales off shore. Took my aunt and uncle there years ago. They saw more whales and significantly closer than they did on a whale watching trip they took the day or so before. Ah- Roche Harbor--the area of the rich and famous. :) A lot of people never get to the English and British camps area since it is too far to walk to from the ferry. Glad you explored the entire island. I used to go Orcas Island every spring for a week with our 6th graders. Such an incredible experience with students in that environment! FYI-- next time visit Deception Pass via Highway 20 (left at the traffic circle instead of straight to Anacortes (head to Whidbey Island). It is so beautiful, and FREE (no ferry needed). Thank you for such a nice visit back to San Juan Island. As always--safe travels. See you somewhere along the road.

Lime Kiln lighthouse photos are some of my favorites! I have a friend who's on the waiting list for a spot in the Marina in Roche Harbor....currently he is estimating 7 years before he gets to the top of the list...and he's been ON the list for more years than that!! It's gorgeous in the summer but always crowded. Try and visit during the winter months it's a LOT more quiet and some of the bigger restaurants close up for the season but the ones that remain are GREAT!! And get a hat from the Alpaca farm...they last forever!

    As I’m watching your video I have to keep pausing it because I’m also watching the Iowa/Iowa State game. Great video!

      We always cheer on both Iowa teams, but we have to draw the line when they play each other…Go Hawkeyes! 😂
      Thanks! 🧡

    We toured some of the Very Western part of WA 3 years ago and loved it and may go back next summer. But man your travels have inspired us to keep moving, thank you. We were so stuck in our own fear of fuel prices. We stayed put for 11 mo. bc of it. Dumb, I know. But all things are possible and we are back on the road. We have been traveling again, this time we left just 2.5 weeks ago from the Coast of TX. We have made our way to Shiloh Battlefield and the Natchez Trace so far. East Coast bound and spending a cold winter in SC to explore even more. 44 ft MH and a truck. Thank you.

    This was a great video, thank you! You gave me some great ideas for exploring my home state, we’re about an hour North, in the beautiful Lynden WA. Wonder if we can bring our e-bikes on the ferry ⛴️…we enjoy camping down there…would be fun to explore the island with our bikes

      You’re very welcome. You can take bikes or e-bikes on the island. They rent them on the island also.

    The Pacific Northwest is certainly beautiful! We enjoy a nice glass of cold cider too. I wonder if the old cover wagons or stagecoaches had a potty bucket in the back? My guess is they due a hole along the trail. Bet they didn’t have TP either 🤔. We have it potty good in this generation. There are so many places to see along the trail to adventure you just gotta save some of them for the next visit. You did a pret’ good job with you phone videos.

    Hey guys, we did the Friday Harbour trip. Stated on island and dud orca kayaking, a bucket list thing of ours. Didn't see one whale, but trip was still awesome. Check out the lavender fields and goto orcas island...

      Sounds fun! Did you catch the end of our video where when we approached the lavender fields? There were no whales to be seen the day we were there either. Guess we’ll have to go back. 👍🏻😊🤓

    Theres a wildfire near Skykomish today.
    We stayed at La Conner and loved it there. Could have been around the same time. Did the same ferry trip as you guys and ate at the brewery too! Too bad we didn’t see you again….we ran into yall at Hershey RV show last year.
    Washington has been our favorite so far.

    We live on Lopez Island and recently picked up our 2022 Grech Terreno-Ion in August, partly due to discovering your Channel seeing your Strada. We also have an Airstream, but unlike you we are keeping it. We love the Islands, our Airstream and now our Grech,…, the ferries? Not so much

    Great video as usual. Looks like a lot of walking .why not take bikes with you

    • @LivinRVision
      @LivinRVision  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can if you want to. We chose not to, just so that we would not have to worry about where to put them, taking them down and putting them away. There was not a lot of place to park them from what we could see either. It was just easier for us then the hassle. Just like when we went to Mackinac Island, we chose to rent bikes over there instead of the hassle with ours, plus you had to remove the battery on ebikes in Mackinac and those ebikes we had then didn’t pedal the greatest like a normal bike does, especially with all the hills.

      @@LivinRVision Hi thanks for the reply I never thought about islands not allowing E bikes I guess some of them dont ? I’ll make sure to check that out first .thanks

    • @LivinRVision

      Some do and some require the batteries to be removed and usually the ferries charge a higher rate if you bring a bike on. Yes, either way just need to research ahead of time.
