Absolutely! It’s so common to cringe at our own voices-it's a weird mix of biology and perception. I remember the first time I heard my recorded voice; I couldn't believe it was me! It felt like my voice had a personality of its own. Sometimes, we all face those awkward moments when trying to be funny-like cracking a joke and getting crickets instead of laughs. @@alexanderefughi3157 If your voice is not understandable to others, then this advice absolutely does not work. People will make subconscious judges of you based on your voice, hence a loss of credibility.
As I grew up, I progressively got used to my own voice more and more as I was getting older throughout most of my years through adolescence. From 2020 (which was 4 years ago) onwards, to me, I have established that my voice sounds amazing, and I don't have that past mindset to hold, or set, me back anymore
I used to (and still do sometimes) get bullied for my voice. I have a very high and small voice that makes people think I’m intentionally pitching to sound cutesy and feminine, some believe I wasn’t pretending but couldn’t help feeling annoyed by it. But for me to make my voice lower consciously would be me pretending not to be myself. So when I hear the recording of my voice, i stopped hating how it sounded now, but still remember the worries that the next person I meet would secretly wished I don’t talk just because of my voice. No one hated my voice as much as I do and many times growing up, I prayed for a lower voice. But I’m working on being more comfortable with my voice now, it’s not worth changing yourself for people who hurt you for being who you are.
0:54 this is actually wrong. The most accurate depiction of yourself, is in fact your reflection in the mirror rather than a photo. In pictures your face becomes flat and many times disproportioned depending on the distance and the quality of each camera. Not to mention pictures make your face look flat you are actually depicted in a 2D space rather than a 3D space such as real life.
No, the mirror is not the most accurate because it literally flips your image on the left/right axis. Raise your right hand and look in the mirror. Where is your right hand in the reflection? On the right. To another person looking at you, your right hand is on their left. It's the same with your face, your hair, everything about you. You are never seeing the real you in a mirror.
@@0Fyrebrand0 Yes it's true your face does look mirrored horizontally BUT only through your own reflection, you can see your face in an ACTUAL 3D space. What people fail to realize is that eyes are different than cameras... photos cannot depict depth the way our eyes can. It's called depth perception and it can heavily impact how a face looks like in real life.
Many people even my teachers in school made fun about my monotone voice. I was always confused about that because it sounded perfectly fine for me until I heard recordings of it. I had to start exaggerting massively when speaking to sound normal to others. It's very draining to do that for an extended amount of time.
Not every singer has the same voice, they believe themselves first and start practice to stand out among others, and that's how they recognize them self among the crowd, no one can be perfect, believe yourself and you'll create your best version.
As for a camera/video being how you actually appear in front of others. That is not true. The camera distorts quite a bit. It is why people with very skinny faces are usually photogenic because the camera widens the face so they appear proportionate. Whereas people with wider faces will look like a full on block on a camera. Also photos dont capture the 3D aspect that a human eye can see. Thats why you need lighting etc when taking pics. The amount of my exes or current gfs/friends who outright say I look way better in person than on facetime is a good indication. Also, take a piece of paper and lay it on a table and then try to take a picture of it. You will notice the paper doesnt fully fit in the lens so you will see uneven amounts of table in the background as the paper is wider near the bottom and skinner at the top. If you want to see your true self. Get an inverse mirror. Or, get one mirror, hold it out to the side and aim it at the reflection of you in another mirror. Then look at that mirror out to the side.
What I don't understand is my voice sounds higher to me but people have told me I have a deep voice. But I hear my voice deeper than they do, why do I sound like a nasally little you know.
Expected I knew about and it and so that I recorded myself to hear the difference and objectively notice the difference. And I still don't like my voice. BUT, that's the voice I was born with, focusing on something you can't change will ruin your life, so you should focus on what you CAN change instead. That's what the video should've say.
What I never get about this theory that people don't like their voice on recordings etc because it doesn't sound the same as when you hear yourself speak, is that everyone encounters new voices all the time, voices that are unfamiliar yet you don't automatically hate them. Hearing Morgan Freeman speak for the first time doesn't make me hate his voice just because it's different to what I'm used to, so why would you hate your own voice just because it's different than expected? Also, are there people who are positively surprised when they hear their own voice? Like "holy shit I sound so much cooler than I thought" lol

When I was young, before my voice deepened, I use to have a thick New Zealand accent. But around the time my voice was deepening, I had gained access to the internet where I watched a lot of TH-camrs, most of which were from America. So now, I have this awful hybrid between an NZ and American accent and I hate it. It kind of makes me sound younger than I actually am. Since the New Zealand accent is very similar to the Australian and South African accent, it's naturally high pitched. The American accent is a bit more deeper. This results in me sounding almost like a young teenage American. It doesn't help that I notice I tend to speak more gently, especially when I'm nervous or talking to someone I don't know. That's why, I don't think I'll ever gain confidence in my voice.
