  • In this video I go over all the major events at Kaer Morhen, from it's creation to it's destruction. I cover everything up to the games and discuss the origins of it's name amongst other things. I also talk about all residents that have lived their, including the school of the wolf and other guests.

    When you play the scavenger quest for the wolven gear you actually have to go to a cave. Then in that cave you could see the tables and the mutagens used for creating witchers in the trial of grasses. Geralt even scorns the equipment in disgust as you examine them. Geralt also mentions when you enter the cave that that was where the first wolf school trials were held before they built the fortress so it would probably be a good assumption that the keep was built by the witchers or at least for the witchers. And in fact when you go around the map in kaer morhen valley you get to go through a lot of other ruined structures and these were actually used by the witchers when there were still a lot of them. In fact one of the quests you can recieve in that map is a quest named “The Witcher’s Forge” where in a mine that was depleted centuries before the game(as mentioned by geralt) there still lies an ancient forge built by a mage for the witchers to use and you can find mastercrafted wolven gear and a fire elemental who was actually used as a spirit of the forge which the mage used to make the witchers armor better. When you get to the forge you find out that the fire elemental is still alive and tells you that the forge belongs to “Ranvid” and as Geralt recognizes the name he then tries to inform the elemental that Ranvid of Tor Carnned(not sure of spelling sorry) is dead and was impaled at the stake during Falka’s Rebellion.
    That’s all i can say about what i found in the witcher 3 hope it helps

      How does one get the witcher forge quest? I've seen it come up on screen before but only after killing the fire elemental and it ends as soon as it starts.

    • @talonnewton5486
      @talonnewton5486 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      as far as I know, the whole quest is killing the fire elemental and examining the forge, then promptly destroying it, where you will find some chests and collect the wolven armor diagram and finding the master crafted wolven chest armor. which you probably already knew, but It does end rather quickly.

    • @geoffrogers7590
      @geoffrogers7590 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Huh. I never examined the forge. All that happens when I play it is the quest pops up on screen when I kill the fire elemental but cannot be tracked and doesn't appear in the log. Maybe it's a bug with the ps4 version? Oh well. Doesn't look like I missed much.

    I remember walking around Kaer Morhen and seeing houses like little villages around the many fortresses and liked to think that at some point humans lived there and Co existed with witchers. Say that's where the servants and caretakers lived as when you are a witcher you are always on the path so when you go home you dont want to see a huge mess after months on the road. Instead you had servants cleaning, cooking, and making sure the garden is kept and nothing breaks while the witchers are away. But as time passed views changed and eventually those people came to hate and fear them and that lead to the uprising.

      Yea, they had non witchers doing research for them. Doing the Wolven gear scavenger quests takes you to plenty of those ruins and you can read the journals/panic'ed notes of the afraid and dying researchers who helped adapt old gear schematics, some literally just finishing the schemas as the horde of rioters could be seen in the distance from their torches. Im on my 1st playthrough and this is still very fresh in my mind. lol but my point is that they most definitely had non witchers working for them, not even if they had all 40 trainees doing chores 24/7 could maintain all that. They had to have their own little community. Probably even a brothel lol.

      As Sie Jac allready stated, elven didnt built fortifications at all, cause there was no need for it before the conjunction. Many human citys and towns are build upon elven ruins tough. it could possibly be that an old elven city was used as foundation for kaer morhen

      Here's what I'm guessing about Kaer Morhen: it was an ancient fortress that, due to shifting trade routes or borders, lost its strategic importance, and the witchers simply took it over. The world was definitely far more populated in ages past, and you can see evidence of this everywhere.

    When I first got into the Witcher (jumped into TW3 with no context), I remember thinking there would be many other witchers at Kaer Morhen. It was so depressing to see a huge castle only being used by four people, and poor old Vesemir trying to maintain it all by himself. I'd love for TW4 to go back and show us the wolf school in its prime, when everything was fresh and full of life instead of crumbling and empty.

    I would rather have Witcher 4 where you create your own Witcher and select what school you go to and it dramatically changes the game where if you choose the cat school, you could be straight up evil and sadistic, but I imagine if that’d be too expensive and big for the game then go to the the wolf school automatically after the trial of grasses and train with vesemir and ranvid and maybe see a young Geralt eventually. Ciri and geralts story is done. Leave them alone.

    • @brettmiddleton7949
      @brettmiddleton7949 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It wasn't so much "allowed" as inevitable. After the slaughter, during which the castle was heavily damaged by the mages, there were only a handful of Wolf-school witchers left. Too few to properly rebuild and maintain a castle of that size, which most of them realized. Only Vesemir really tried, and the others indulged him by helping as they could, wintering there only out of loyalty to Vesemir, who refused to abandon the place.

    Quick Theory, it's pretty canon that monster's are more rare nowadays than they used to be, which may also be why Witchers are portrayed as having issues getting paid and keeping a good stock of money. (Seen by Geralt's conversation with The School of The Cat's Witcher, can't remember his name. But in The Witcher III.) So maybe before, when witchers were created from necessity, the pure amount of monsters allowed them to take enough jobs to gain enough money to build Kaer Morhen. Or maybe when they were 'just coming out', by slaying so many beasts maybe they were rewarded with the Castle. (As you said) But having this previous great wealth would also be another thematic of The Witcher's 'fall from grace' that's so heavily focused on in the games with them being pariahed (or even killed, in this video's case.) But going from once-rich people who'd earned it by blood and silver to scavenging workers who're forced to travel great distances to find a consistent income of jobs, and thus, money. It would play that whole "nobility rested in a castle, great warrior" to "wandering destitute ronin soldier who fights for their own aims/cause" and it'd definitely be a thematic I can get behind.

    I still dont know how peasants can massacre witchers, uno a witcher that can deal with monsters that can destroy whole towns and yet some peasants managed to kill most of the witchers...like wtf how, I would understand if like 10000 fully armed soldiers did it, but peasants with pitchforks and clubs??? C'mon now

      Maybe a witcher game from the perspective of one of the first witchers when monsters were prominent through out the world and there was danger around every corner, and the public don't know or have even less information about witchers so they could treat you more like monsters than a stranger and so forth.

    A discussion on reddit about Eskel, actually mentioned Kaer Morhen, as far as a possible premise for a future Witcher game, now that Geralt's story is over. What about another witcher finding the abandoned keep, and deciding to restore the 'School of the Wolf', and finding recruits. Possibly an interaction between Geralt of Rivia and/or Letho of Gulet, who may or may not live there. Although the 10 year Witcher anniversary video by CDPR, insinuated that Geralt retired at Corvo Bianco.

      Ciri dies- becomes the inspiration for the school, the she wolf mascot of the school

    The books and therefore the games were perfectly chosen in terms of timeframe. The Witchers remind me of Jedi or Halo Spartans, and they're depicted as like relics of a dying age, once powerful and self governing, now few and vulnerable to the power of kingdoms.

      @Whiterun Guard imagine if the amount of peasants you killed would matter to change the storyline, like you can also go to the tower and help hieronymous and also others and that would change the story by them not losing the secrets and making witchers.

      I don't think they actually helped ELgar, as he was long dead, but discovered his work and were recreating it.
      On another note, it seems to me that Hieronymus was actually responsible for the attack that destroyed the school. Mages had aroused the peasantry against the witchers, but the location of Kaer Morhen was a closely-held secret at that time. How did they learn where to go? If you do the Greenhouse Effect quest, you find a letter from Hieronymus to a sorceress (on whom he was apparently sweet) where he says he will reveal the location to her because he trusts her, though he had sworn never to do so. Perhaps his trust was misplaced and that is how the mages learned the location of the school.

    I think that it could have been built by a king as payment for being saved by a Witcher. (The king) "thank you for saving me, and delivering me to my castle! How could I ever repay you?" (The Witcher) "I could use a castle of my own!"
    Or maybe it was the law of surprise.
