    I know this varies based on season / crops planted but, I’ve heard you mention leaving the irrigation on overnight in previous videos and I was curious as to how much water you guys typically go through.
    I just recently made a 20x20 plot and was interested in drip irrigation but wanted to get more info on the specs for it. I’m in FL with sandy soil, so I’ll probably have similar water requirements as you guys, if not more.

      Well the output on our tape is .4 gal/min per 100 ft. So you can do the calculations for how many rows/feet of tape you’d have and figure the total water consumption.

    A question for you. What do you think about planting corn in a deep furrow (1ft deep, then seeded below that)? I tried this in the spring as it grew and the rains came, the furrows filled back up with soil slowly. It seemed to bury the stalks well enough. Have you ever tried this?

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Have not tried that. We usually just keep hilling it as it grows. But I could see where that would work as long as it didn't "wash out" before it got going.

    Travis, I have clay soils that that takes some time to dry out. With the wet year I had, I didn’t water or fertile through my drip because the plants didn’t need the water. Should I run the drip with fertilizer even though there’s plenty of water available for the plants? I’m concerned about overwatering in my more clayey soils.

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Usually you can run a full "cycle" of fertilizer with the injector in just an hour or two. And you're not actually putting that much water into the soil with the drip.

    Hey Hoss. Thanks for posting this video. Quick question for you. The 0.40 gal per minute per 100 square feet you called out when determining which washer to use ... Is that a standard number to the 8 mm drip tape you supply or is that figure based on flow rates from the spigot? Thanks!

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's standard on the drip tape we carry currently -- 0.4 gal per min per 100 ft. of tape.

    Could the fertilizer injector be used with a hose and spray wand or overhead sprinkler on lettuce and greens to apply 20-20-20. Would I need to try to keep the fertilizer off of the plants themselves and drench the soil or would it be ok to spray them.

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use it with overhead watering. The solution will be diluted enough to where it shouldn't burn the plants.

    I have questions about beans. I've only grown Pole Beans in the past (Kentucky Blue). My wife would like me to grow some pinto beans (Dry Beans). I understand pole beans or bush beans. I don't understand which beans are dry beans (Runner? Lima? Butterpea?) I rarely see Pinto bean seeds. FWIW I like the pole type beans because this old man has trouble crawling on the ground to harvest.

    What's the difference between that fertilizer and compost tea or miracle grow?

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Our 20 20 20 is very similar to Miracle Gro, although I'm not sure of the analysis on the Miracle Gro. Both are water soluble and work very fast.
      Compost Tea can be a bit of a mystery. It can be difficult to prove that the aeration process actually multiplies the beneficial organisms, and also hard to prove that those organisms will persist when applied to the soil.

  • @Mstymntntop

    Do you have a pressure regulator at some point before the hose bib adapter? My injector is pushing clear water up the fertilizer tube which makes me think my water pressure is too high. If I cut back the water flow at a valve it seems to pull the fertilizer but my drip lines are not filling right and are kind of soft when squeezing one. I have a 10 psi regulator after the the injector, but am wondering if I should move it before it or add an additional pressure regulator before it. My system is running at about 140 gph so I do not use a flo disk.

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Our pressure regulator and filter sits at the garden where the drip irrigation system starts. Check the restrictions on your pressure regulator. Our pressure regulator only works for flow rates between 0.5 and 8 gal/min. If your flow rate is above that, the pressure regulator does nothing.

    • @gardeningwithhoss
